More Doctor please.
I'm a 20 something who started on the new Who, and watched through Sarah Jane Adventures, and have watched almost all of the Fourth Doctor adventures that are on DVD with my fiancee.
I would have to say that Genesis of the Daleks, while it would fit in to the Time War as a starting point, is a harder episode to watch than most of them. It's got a few points where it seems like the characters are stalling for time, and might be hard for kids to watch. It wasn't the most... [more]

Yes. I have successfully spliced one back together with electrical tape, exactly like caddis said.
(A coworker of mine had a cat who loved to eat the magsafe cords.)

Your favorite tomatoes suck.
I've never had Bertucci's.
Whenever I work with tomatoes, I've found if I cut the watery seedy part out of the tomato and leave the thick flesh (so it looks like a spoked wheel) it really cuts down on the acidity.

Best ebook library management tool?
thedaniel, I've been meaning to ask this question for quite some time. I haven't found anything suitable for my needs yet. Ideally for me, this would mean looking books up based upon filename in the ISFDB, and then tagging them somehow. It's on my list of programming projects, but the list goes ever on and on.

I can't get no sinusfaction.
I had this done about 5 years ago--the month before I started college. I was 18.
The minute I woke up after the surgery, I was amazed by how much clearer my sinuses were than beforehand. My nasal polyps were blocking my airway, so even with all the gauze packing, I could breath a lot easier AFTER surgery rather than before.
I was really exhausted for about 4 days, and pretty tired for even up to 10 days.
I'm doing great... [more]

What's the deal with these Webkinz?
Webkinz are little stuffed animals like Beanie Babies, but each one has a unique code that lets you join an online flash website. This website has a bunch of flash games, a lot of trivia questions (my favorite), and a Sims-style home that you can furnish with virtual furniture and wallpaper and such paid for with KinzCash, the currency. At no point is "real" money exchangeable for KinzCash. The pet you "adopt" lives in your home, and you can talk to it and bathe it and... [more]

Talked with the wifey, got a few corrections and addendums.
They announce the Pet of the Month one month before hand. Next month's is the Lilkinz pet poodle.
If the child only has one Webkinz, they might get confused with how to register the second pet. You do not make a second login and password, you adopt a new pet from inside the Webkinz world while logged in. The Webkinz tech folks can combine accounts within either 30 or 14 days, but its... [more]

Help us rock out to TMBG
In 2007, I went to a TMBG at First Avenue in Minneapolis. They played nearly every song on The Else, and a few others. I think they played "Clap your Hands."
If you want to know just about every song they'll play, listen to their latest album "The Else" and the collection "Dial-a-song."
Don't worry about it, it'll be sweet.

More like St. Smellmo
Cedar Rapids, IA -- official slogan of "City of Five Seasons," unofficial slogan of "City of Five Smells," as it has one of the world's largest oats processing plants, IIRC.
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, as it isn't a change of the name itself, but its definitely derogatory.

A way out of a bad situation
I had something like this when I was growing up. Usually I'd just throw in an extra "You sure, Mom?" when it didn't quite make sense, and she'd know something was going on.
Seconding the warning about phones being loud enough other people can hear.
I don't think this tactic ruined my ability to deal with peer pressure.

Twin Cities Turtle-spotting spots
I've seen turtles when I walk around Lake Calhoun. I've seen both hard and soft-shelled turtles (leatherbacks?) when walking around the Lake. It might be cool since you can walk right up to the edge of the water in most places, but its pretty popular so you probably won't be alone.

The perfect burrito?
I'm one of those rebels who enjoys onions and peppers in his burrito. If you offer this, something that separates burrito joints I frequent and burrito joints I try out once is the sogginess of the vegetables.
Chipotle and Qdoba and such have nice, crisp, pretty vegetables.
Other places, like the burrito joint in my hometown, have brown, soggy, mushy vegetables.
This small difference is basically the first thing I look for in a new burrito place.

I don't want this to turn into HorribleAnecdoteFilter, but I had chronic nosebleeds. Went to the doctor, had her cauterize the vessels. They didn't stop. I figured it was nothing, but it was nasal polyps and I had to have them removed.
If you're due for a doctor appointment, make sure to mention it.

If you're looking for sf to fill your time until he publishes something else--
I love Stephenson's work, and I recently read Blindsight and the Rifters trilogy by Peter Watts and I remember feeling that they were Stephensonny at some points.
Blindsight and the first two Rifters books are freely available at his website.

I'm more productive when I have a set of albums I only listen to when I code. It helps put me in the right frame of mind when I put the music on.

I am, however, a professional linux admin, and while I love the idea of MythTV, I do not believe it is ready for people who don't administer linux machines to run yet. Mythtv is made of so many little pieces that are each a little finicky, so when one changes, the whole deck of cards can fall down.
Someday, MythTV will be exactly what you want.
