best unknown places to eat in SF
What? No love for Tu Lan or Shalimar? The former's a true hole-in-the-wall of Vietnamese persuasion, once visited and recommended by Julia Child herself! The latter's Tenderloin location epitomizes the hole-in-the-wall experience with fantastic Pakistani food served in squalor. Squalor I tell you! Shalimar also has a couple of other locations, but they are definitely lacking in the squalor department. I also have to wonder if having a website detracts from a restaurant's hole-in-the-wall... Sex in Space?
A very good friend of mine worked at Lockheed on the International Space Station project. She got to meet a number of astronauts as a result, including a husband-and-wife pair who had been up in the shuttle together. They were asked if they had sex when they were up in space and the answer was "Of course! Who wouldn't?"

Not just any port in a storm
Thank all of you for the very helpful suggestions - too many to mark everyone as best!
spilon - it never occurred to me to use CitySearch - d'oh! The lady at Ansley was very helpful, but it seems that it may all depend on the state wine distributor carrying what I need.
pants - Wine Searcher seems to be a really useful tool, though - thanks for bringing that up! There does seem to be a store which carries something which might work, which is cool.... [more]

booksherpa - thank you for the recommendation!
mooders - are both the Warre's and Graham's that you tried tawnies or were they vintages? Is it worthwhile going with a vintage versus an aged Tawny? (There are also vintage tawnies I understand, but please pardon my lack of an oenophile vocabulary)
Thanks for the suggestions of vintners and labels. Your suggestions have given me a great place to start!

Well, it turns out that none of the local wine merchants will deliver alcohol since it is against state law to do so. I have found, however, that some wine stores local to me will deliver to Georgia regardless and so they're probably my best bet of arranging this. Thanks for everyone's help, despite the way it's ended up.

Running with GPS and avoiding animals
Old-style pedometers merely count the number of steps you take and aren't necessarily that accurate as a result. However, there are new accelerometer-based pedometers which don't have that limitation. I use the Polar 625X myself, and am quite happy with it. It consists of a pod which you attach to the laces of one shoe and the watch/computer. I've only had to calibrate it once and doing so iis pretty straightforward. The only problem I've had with it is when running in urban areas the... [more]

Give me an L! C! C!
IcelandAir used to have cheap flights between Luxembourg and New York, with a layover in Reykjavik. I seem to recall it being cheaper to take a train from Switzerland to Luxembourg and taking this flight than many of the other options for flying back to the U.S. from Switzerland. Granted this was more than ten years ago, but unless things have changed a whole lot I wouldn't completely dismiss IcelandAir as an option.

Guilt versus greed - how much do I pay this woman?
mdonley - it could very well just be the opening offer and they're expecting you to haggle. As you already have noted yourself, every price there is negotiable. So negotiate! Determine what the housekeeping/laundry service is worth to you first or find out from your expat friends what a fair price would be and then start bargaining.

I wonder how I Love Tacos feels about Huey Lewis and the News.
OnTopic: Not a single company per se, but the automobile industry has convinced most of the world that they should drive. Of course, they also had a hand in making it necessary to drive here in the U.S., but they've succeeded in equating the automobile with the "mystique" of America.

What are the best comics?
Finder by Carla Speed McNeil. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Queen and Country by Greg Rucka. He also did Whiteout, which is also an outstanding work.
Black Hole by Charles Burns.
The Goon by Eric Powell.
Hellboy by Mike Mignola (don't let the movie spoil you on the book).
Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo (once again, the original comic is superior to the movie adaptation).
The Tale of One Bad Rat, The Adventures of Luther... [more]

I forgot to mention Lone Wolf & Cub by Kazuo Koike & Goseki Kojima. If possible, get a hold of Dark Horse's first series of reprints which were full-sized. They're still being sold in digest-sized reprints in which you can still enjoy them, but to me the smaller form detracts from the art.
Is Halo & Sprocket still being published?

Help me choose a PDA
Just from your laundry list, I have to chime in with another recommendation for the Palm TX. It fills all your requirements and you can get a case/belt clip with enough room to spare in your budget. Personally, I was shopping around for a PDA for my dad and decided that it was the best option available.

help me find a super-deluxe banana seat for a chopper bicycle
Schwinn recently came out with the retro-styled Stingray line which you can see here. The banana seats in the classic line to which I linked most look to be approximately what you're asking for, but you'd have to be the judge. I would say to contact a Schwinn dealer and see if you could just by a seat off them.

By the way, I don't know if they're only available in kids' or teens' sizes, which might be a possibility. It was the first thing I thought of, though.

Thank you Seattle! We are ________!
Name it "Rock Band".
Number all your albums, e.g. "Album #1", "Album #2", etc.
Give your songs self-reflexive names like "Song about my cat", "Angsty song about love #34", "Rocking song about rocking out", etc.
Wear nondescript brown-paper colored clothes and label all your instruments in big stencil letters, "LEAD GUITAR", "BASS GUITAR", "DRUMS", and "KEYBOARD".

Group dinner party in SF?
Budget-wise, I was thinking of something which would work out to the $20-$25 per head, as some in the group have tighter pursestrings at the moment. Lots of good suggestions so far, though. Has anyone had any experience with the Delancey Street Restaurant?

bad ears can scuba dive
The real concern is whether your girlfriend is able to equalize pressure in her inner ear with the ambient pressure. If she has problems doing so, and a good indication would be if she has had problems with equalization on an airplane flight, then it would be a pretty bad idea for her to go diving. Conventional ear plugs are definitely not an option for scuba diving since they impede a diver's ability to equalize. The only earplug option that I know of is the vented version of Doc's Proplugs.... [more]
