MeFi post: Chess Problems
I saved a long list of useful chess links, once upon a time. Here is the list. (there are a few websites I use now that aren't here.) Maybe someone will find some of these useful as well.

Also, a note. There is a small group of users on youtube who post videos about chess. Search for the name "GreenCastleBlock", "JrobiChess", or "jj32768" on youtube for some of the more active users. Not bad players, not great so if you are a good chess... [more]

MeFi post: Homeless Prophet
The guy who posted the video is the guy who made it. he realized the error he made in being an ass. skim the comments, he talks about how he started looking into the eastern philosophy and what not.

MeFi post: And in this corner...!
Ive seen two Uwe Boll from begining to end.

Which probably makes me the leading authority on his movies.

they only criticize because they can't do it themselves.

Uwe Boll's movies are not the worst in the world, true enough. But if you look at the amount of money that is poured into these films, how how consistently bad they are, he rightly becomes a legend.

The movies that... [more]

MeFi post: "playing" America's Army
I liked the idea util I saw that the "artist" also spammed with text from "Friends". Made me lose my respect. Not exaceltly a political statement to type out the script of friends in an online game..

MeFi post: before/after
I think it is very amusing how so many people in this thread tear these photographs down so vehemently, as if Kristine Larsen was worshipped as a goddess of photography or something. The project certianly could have been planned beter, especially if it could have been planned. By that I mean, some chick took some pictures in New York while walking around the streets. If her other photo's contents are any judgement, shes probably in herlower to mid twenties. So, when 9-11 happened she got an... [more]

MeFi post: The US backed the invasion of East Timor
My bad. I thought that Wikipedia had a link to another article on the subject. Anyways, how about BBC? (at the bottom).

1976: Indonesia annexes East Timor. About 200,000 are killed in violence and the famine that follow.

Its interesting you use the word "mistake".

Oh, and thanks for mentioning the shipment of arms to Indonesia, it slipped my mind when I was writing up the post.

No apology needed. His comment was not particularly harsh, but thanks for standing up for me. :)

Great post. And to the GoogleNews link - holy shit.

The most damning news will not ever be reported by mainstream American media sources, as witnessed in this case. This isnt a liberal or conservative media bias, this is a Pro-American media bias.

And for the record, this is just one of many similiar incidents. I dont feel like backing that statements up with links at the moment. With that said, this is my first post on... [more]

Oil, strategic positioning, Suharto being anti communist, and I believe large corporations employed many people at slave wages. I would have to check.

MeFi post: Bones
I keep seeing this linked all over the place, which I find odd because it doesnt seem as amazing to me as many people think it is. (various comments on other websites make it sound absolutely shocking.)

22. No matter how savagely a spaceship is attacked, its internal gravity system is never damaged.

That one seemed to really stand out from the rest. not funnier. but the most true of all.

MeFi post: A Fair Tax or not?
The orporation is a great book, and movie. The book is better of course, and goes into more detail, but the movie is great as well.

Most of the large corporations pay absolutely NO taxes as it is, through tax loopholes, lobbying, illegal offshore accounts.. etc.

The only way to make them "play fairly" is if a large amount of people put pressure on them to do so, and the best chance of that occurring is if people are aware of what... [more]
