you're not helping
We wouldn’t have all these problems if they closed new sign-ups and/or randomly deleted 20,000 or so existing accounts. MeFi would be much better off over the long term.

"Wow, look at the Boobies!"
For a place that claims to be The Best of the Web the ratio of boob posts to non-boob posts is surprisingly low, considering this is the internet and all.
Do we have to do this every time there’s a boob post? Can we not just accept that for every Star Wars and Tron we’re gonna have a Porky’s once in a while? Is that not ok? Some people like boobs, occasionally we’re gonna talk about them and look at them and, some day, if Ray Kurzweil is correct,... [more]

Is it time for MetaFilter consignment?
I have two old ceiling fans, a heavy metal desk, and about a yard full of various-sized rocks. Whoever wants them can come get them. I'm not lugging them to a meet-up.

Neverending Stories
Holy crap, thanks for pointing that out! Now I need to get my hippie ass to Wisconsin.
Some sort of alert would be nice. Say, if someone posts in your thread thirty days after it starts you get a MeMail.
Follow up: I haven't made the pizza yet, though I still plan to. Yes, you're all invited. Well, except for the 27000 - 28500 users. I hate those guys.
Onions are perfectly fine on a pizza, just as long as there aren't too many.

I’d be up for this but I’m pretty solidly busy for the next couple weeks.

I think I can make it. Perhaps Mrs. Bondcliff as well, if we can get a sitter.

Cat Pie, I almost chickened out on the Western MA meetup last weekend but I'm really glad I didn't. Even though I hadn't interacted on (or off) board with most of the people there I found them all friendly, warm, fun, and surprisingly fresh-smelling.

What a blast! I only took about four photos.
It was great to meet some of the old-timers and some newer folks as well. Sorry I didn't get to chat with more people.
I am still amazed that someone had a crab vs. pipe t-shirt. That's just about the most obscure thing I've ever seen on a shirt. Well, until I make my "note: Everyone needs a hug" shirt.

Western Mass Meetup, Saturday, April 5, 2008
Count me in as tentative, though I've said that about more local meetups in the past and have yet to make one. It's a long ride from the Boston 'burbs but I need to get out and meet new people.
Jonathon Coulton (w/ Paul and Storm!) is playing in Northhampton that Thursday. Shame he couldn't put his show off two days.

Eidetaker,
I may be driving from the 'burbs. If you need a dry ride, drop me an MeMail. I don't know how late I'll be staying though, since it's a long ride home. This offer is open to anyone (up to 3 people) who is coming from the 'burbs along the Pike.

It was great to meet you all. I'm glad I picked Northampton to pop my meetup cherry. My only regret is not getting a chance to talk to everyone. It was a much larger group than I expected and it was pretty loud in there. Some observations:
As he mentioned, not_on_display and I were born mere hours apart. Very strange indeed.

A couple minor feature requests fulfilled
I'm using Safari and the month, day, and year are all in the same drop down list and I can only pick one of them. So my birthday is either December, 6, or 1969, but not Dec. 6, 1969. I just have one long list of months, followed by days, followed by years.
It could very well be that I'm an idiot.

Nice, Googly, especially since "will this kill me?" covers CanIEatThisFilter and IShouldReallySeeADoctorFilter.

What comes up...
I’ve never seen that show before, but I’ve certainly been hearing a lot of talk about it what with that one dude posting stuff on Metafilter.
I liked the parts when they did stuff. When they weren’t doing stuff, when they talked about doing stuff, I wanted to tear my liver out and throw it at the screen. Is it always that… I dunno… cheesy?
I respect what they do, I’ll certainly watch it again. I might even set a season pass, but good lord they... [more]

You forgot the part about calling her an it, and saying that it is something you would hit.
Sorry, I’m not up on the lingo. I’m still using “Sha-wing.” I was going to say something about her being hunted by the aristocracy, with only her cunning to protect her, but I didn’t want to look like a smartypants.

Weirdest thing I've heard of today: 5 year olds wanting to use the internet
Just you wait. My five year old uses the 'net all the time. He doesn't watch much TV, but he can sit for an hour viewing the YouTube search results for "lego ball machine" or "card stacking."
Of course, you have to stick around because one can go from "happy fun lego contraption" to "Lego: Vice City" in about two clicks.

We hate hip-hop
I don’t think it’s rap. If a country or Jazz musician named “Pimp C” died you’d get the same jokes.
Also, how well known is this Mr. Pimp C fellow? Admittedly I stopped paying attention to music some time around 1992 but I’d never heard of this dude and, no matter how much I try, I’m usually at least vaguely aware of the names of current musicians. If Chuck D or Ice-T died, god forbid, I don’t think you’d get as many “Chuck E” or “Ice-U” jokes.... [more]
