I just did this yesterday with Yahoo pipes. One issue I had is that there is a time lag for the altered feed. (On the other hand, this could be a google reader issue).

Ask post: Help me convince my company to put Human Factors Engineering (or User Centered Design) into their software CMMI process.
Hi there, where about are you located?

I am a Usability Professional. The core of what you are asking is a business development question, not a usability issue. What you need is a user expereince strategy. The problem is that to answer any of your questions, even marginally well, will require a lot more detail about your business than you can possibly give via askme. If you were my client, I would require a 2 hour meeting, minimum.

What would... [more]

Ask post: knee support for a jogger/runner?
With any sport that is repetitive, you expose yourself to the possibility of overuse injury. The small deviations from proper form get magnified and can affect your cartilage and joints--with which you don't have a second chance. Don't ask me how I know.

What I can say is that you need to work on running form, build the muscles necessary to support your skeleton, and work with someone who knows what they are doing. I would join a running group with a hired coach. It... [more]

Ask post: How can I not feel guilty about a friend's suicide?
I'm going to go orthogonal to grain here--and say outright, that there is no such thing as absolute morality. That is, in life there are moments when our best intentions don't shape outcomes as we planned. Equally, there are times when we intend harm, but ignore our intents and do nothing. Which is the moral superior? Intent or action? There really isn't a way to know.

On a philosophical level, moral uncertainties haunt me sometimes... to know that right vs. wrong... [more]

Ask post: Intuitive to who?
Quick answer: No.

I am a usability professional and have a deep interest for interaction design. I am not your usability professional.

The assumption within your question that makes it nearly impossible to answer is that no UI element is ever used in isolation from a task. Intents change and are shaped by culture, the information available to a person, how a user relates to his physical space, and the artifacts used to help with the task... [more]

Ask post: Can individuals help bust up a recession?
We really need someone who can redistribute all of the wealth from the top 1% to everyone else. The problem with this group is that they are really good at hiding their money under the mattress of capitalism. Good luck.

The best possible thing you could do is to invest most or all of your life's money into the brightest minds of future economic and political thinking. Plus, ensure that the remainder of the electorate is well educated--enough to be on board with... [more]

Ask post: Should we get married and have kids?
Relationships come before marriage. If you do it backwards, the chances that you've picked the right person are minimally small--especially among the pool of men who think they can get away with picking a lifetime partner without any genuine effort. Do not take them seriously.

Ask post: Build Custom Windows XP Install Disc
There are advantages and disadvantages of using disk images. If you create a slipstream, you can use it no matter whether or not you change hardware in the future.

For example let's say you purchase new motherboard--your ghost image won't do much good (and may create hardware layer problems). But creating a ghost image is easier, and especially if you don't plan on touching your hardware, I'd go that route. If you mess with your hardware at all, make a slipstream XP... [more]

Ask post: What's the deal with cyclists using rollers before 100 mile races?
What they are doing is removing lactate from their muscles. The theory is that mild exercise (or active recovery) at 30-50% of lactate threshold flushes more lactate than than passive recovery (sitting around getting a massage). Did you know that TDF riders actually go on rides during "rest" days? Nuts!

If you google "cycling active recovery" you'll find a bunch of journal articles about this. It's one of those issues where there is evidence for... [more]

Ask post: How do I become intimate with my girlfriend?
Sorry my friend. It's time to move on. I've been with that girl and when I finally that "relationship," she went and slept with another guy almost right away. Go figure. What she's really doing is keeping you around because you give her attention for free and she likes that. She's not that into you, but she probably doesn't want to hurt your feelings right now by leaving and status quo is better than making a big scene. Ask post: SEATTLE: Help us find a nice rental home with a soul!
My recommendation is to try and get a month to month rental to start with. Many of the better places here, in my experience, do not even post ads online.

Once you're here, drive around, street by street and look for rental signs. Craigslist really is the only other option, unless you want to hire an agent (which may also be worth looking into).

Ask post: What should a good medical exam consist of ?
Part of having medical work done is setting expectations about what it is that you want to get out of it. If you are not going to tell the doctor what you want, there is no way that they will be able to read through the lines and know where your concerns lie. Of course there are always further tests and screens, but at some point it's up to the discretion of the doctor to decide what you are at risk for. But it's up to you to ask for more if you are not comfortable with the level of care that... [more]

You are asking 2 distinct questions here:

1. Are they safe?
Yes, probably. I'm guessing that the LD50 of a prenatal pill is on the order of hundreds of pills for a health male--but IANAD. Assuming that you only take one per day, your chances of dying are pretty infinitesimal.

2. Should I take them?
Probably not.

I'm not sure what benefit you would get from fabricating a story. You ARE committed during the day, and if anything the commitment shows that you are a responsible adult. Look, hours are probably the first and most important thing you will discuss during your interview, and if your day job isn't at all flexible, that is something you should be honest about upfront. Just tell the truth, and good luck.

Um, I disagree with Mach 5. But, you could probably sell the tickets for a pretty mark up. And pay off even more of the debt that you have. Yes, you are probably losing muscle some mass. Anecdotally, I lose 5 or so pounds each year after cycling season comes to a close. It usually takes a while though to drop. Whether or not you can recover and get back into shape quickly depends on a number of things:

1. VO2 max
2. Lactate threshold
3. Relative proportion of slow twitch to fast twitch fibers in your muscles
4. Age
5. Muscle memory

The DJ, band, or any other entertainer is a guest at your wedding. They may not have received an explicit invitation, but they are there in your company, because of you -- and are at the mercy of your hospitality. Who cares if you had this written in a contract or not? It comes down to decency. Let it go for shit's sake.

This thread is fascinating. I now realize that I was making false assumptions about the quality of music based on date of release. I didn't realize that mastering on modern rock albums was so horrendous. And what really gets me is that remastering can actually make a CD a lot worse than it was in its original form!
