MeFi post: Pi(es) in a field
I am deathly and irrationally afraid of aliens and my sixth grade math teacher made my class memorize 52 digits of pi during one half of the year. This is the most nightmarish of all posts for me.

MeFi post: Spoiler Alert.
This all reminds me of a Jack Handy quote:

"Somebody told me it was frightening how much topsoil we are losing each year, but I told that story around the campfire and nobody got scared."

Grouse: Ariel's write-up includes an email she received from Twitter stating that they had decided to remove the user's updates from the public timeline.

However, this sort of deletion does not, I believe, prevent the updates from being seen by the user's followers or anyone who stumbles on his or her profile.

MeFi post: ...even after five agonizing years of the Iraq War, a summer blockbuster isn't prepared to say that not only is its action hero is corrupt, he's corrupt because America has become corrupt.
Iron Man rocked my fucking world and I would recommend watching it, if for no other reason, to spot Tom Morello’s cameo appearance.

MeFi post: The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy
Cool! That site is hosted by the university I attended as an undergrad (The University of Tennessee at Martin) and was founded by one of my first philosophy professors and friends, Dr. Jim Fieser. I'm one of very few philosophy students who have actually gone on from there to do a substantial amount of graduate work. Despite the great work done on this site, I rarely use it as a resource. But I do have to give it up for Jim. He's quite the man and probably way too smart to be working at such a... [more]

MeFi post: Choir Geeks Rejoice!
I was one of the charter members of #50, The Gulf Coast Youth Choirs (formerly one choir, the Gulf Coast Girl Choir). I was 11 at the time and stayed in the choir until I was 16 or 17. While I can't seem to link to it, the GCGC performance of Reel a'Bouche linked on the GCYC's audio page includes me. Actually, that isn't a recording of the GCGC singing that song. I believe it was a southeastern regional choir that myself and two other girls from the choir auditioned for. I... [more]

Oh yeah, so thank you for allowing me to return so unexpectedly to one of the most important times and organizations in my life. Singing really used to be my main passion and Lynne Gackle, the director of the Gulf Coast Girl Choir and La Petit Chouer that I belonged to, was not only a role model and mentor to me for many years of my adolescence, but an amazing friend to both me and my family.

MeFi post: The OTHER "I Am Legend" ending
This alternate ending may have been better if had included a voice over of Will Smith at the end (instead of the girl) talking about some possible regret he might have felt for becoming the monster to them or something along those lines. Oh, and he probably shouldn't have gotten out of there without a strong punch from the big bad boyfriend.

MeFi post: "So find humor in that, and go ahead and put it in your review."
I enjoyed this film. And I'm trying to give Billy Mitchell the benefit of the doubt here, but he still comes across as an ass to me. The fact that there may have been more friendly interactions between him and Steve Wiebe than were portrayed in the documentary doesn't change the other fact that he seems like an egomaniac. I do like hotsauce a lot though. Maybe a taste would change my mind.

MeFi post: Begging The Question
As a philosophy TA and grad student, the only times when I expect the phrase to be used in its technical sense is when I'm teaching or engaged in an explicit philosophical discussion of the soundness of an argument. Short of that, I never have any problem when people use it in its less technical sense because I'm usually quite sure of the meaning that they wish to convey. I generally have no inclination to stifle the flow of a discussion I'm having or overhearing to bring up some technical... [more]
