Tampa Bay, Dec 26
Damn, damn, damn. I live close enough to drive down but I'm going to be in TN. Can I send my best friend who lives in Clearwater as proxy?

Also the shape is easily held in one hand and presents a biteable portion that is smaller than your mouth, unlike a perpendicularly bisected sandwich, where the first bite is essentially pressing your face into a bite that extends beyond the confines of your mouth. It's easier to eat.
Good point. They are also more easily dipped into yummy soups.

LOLPERVERTS
Hmm, I'd say the posts (most of them anyway) have been rather interesting and have generated some decent discussion as have most of the people that have viewed them or commented on them.
As far as this particular post is concerned, I can't say that I ever had the explicit thought that it was funny or humorous but rather intriguing. At least it was to me. If people think that it was some attempt on my part to ridicule someone's tastes, then they're mistaken about my... [more]

I don't think very highly of philosophers anyway. Spoken like a true philosopher.
Hmmm, I didn't say that. P&C did.

You must be one of those self-tortured philosophers with the whipping of chains and nashing of teeth, hm? That's great.
Not really. I'm generally a very happy person.
So are you going to stop posting pedestrian bullshit on metafilter or not?
I'll continue to follow the guidelines and trust that the admins and self-policing community continue to do what they do well. I can't... [more]

What I mean by LOLPERVERTS is, that although it is unusual for someone to want to fuck a car, linking to an article which exists solely to point out that behavior as bizarre, titillating and funny basically reinforces an attitude that unusual sexual practices are somehow wrong or at least not as good as 'the old fashioned way'
Yeah, I understand and I'm sorry if it was taken that way.

All points well-taken and noted for the future. Thanks.

MeTa post:
AskMe is not a suicide prevention hotline
I think a lot of people have given him some good advice by telling him to seek help and to call a suicide prevention hotline. But it also seems clear because of the fact that he even took the time to ask the question that he is looking specifically in this arena for help. So it would seem that some personal communication from MeFi users in particular and maybe even admins especially would be an enormous help to him.

Is there really no statute of limitations on double posts?

I think that even a double of an old post (say, older than a year or maybe two) that links to a site that hasn't had a major overhaul should still be a candidate for an FPP.
I know that I have enjoyed posts that are soon after discovered to be doubles and are deleted. And I also know that I wouldn't have gotten to visit that site unless it had been posted again since I don't go searching through the Metafilter archives looking for interesting old... [more]

Just going through the archives is an inefficient means for discovering items of interest unless you have a very pointed end in mind.
Maybe it's worth asking how often visitors to this site search through the archives in order to find interesting sites as opposed to something like checking to make sure that something hasn't been posted before. And the answer to how often this happens may differ between veterans and newcomers.... [more]

I still say being an exact double post shouldn't necessarily count against one. I suppose that opinion is motivated in large part by (part of) the public service I take MeFi to be providing, i.e. an efficient means for publicly encountering and being given the opportunity to engage with the best of the web.

I'm really interested now in how often people actually do use or search through the archives and for what purposes.

Wait! People actually click the links on the FPP's? I thought we were all just here for the comments.
