Meetup in Chilangolandia, órale pues.
One good, cheap option in the Condesa is Don Keso at the corner of Amsterdam and Parras.

Oh, and I'm cool with April 1-5 range.

Sounds to me like April 4 would be the best to accommodate veggieboy, lovejones and mosessis, and date should work for me as well. Any other takers?

Yeah, sounds like we have consensus for April 4 at Don Keso, in the Condesa. Corner of Amsterdam and Parras. Here's a map. It's at bottom left, sandwiched between the green blocks -- Parque Mexico and Parque España -- and a block south of Sonora. Shall we say 8 p.m.? Space shouldn't be a problem but I'll either talk to the owner or try to get there a little early to get a good table on the sidewalk.

Received confirmation that I don't have to work that night, so all systems go. Will be back in touch as the date approaches. Cheers all.

Well if the map isn't lying, it's certainly close. I'll try to walk by there in the next couple of days on my way to/from work and poke my head in, make sure it's not a total armpit.

I don't know of an online trip planner, but if you're coming by metro, the closest stop is Sevilla station on the pink (#1) line. Route map. Exit the station and you'll be on Chapultepec Ave. Walk a half-block east to Salamanca, another major thoroughfare, and turn right (south, with the flow of one-way traffic). Go straight for a few blocks and you'll get into the Condesa. It's a little hard to describe what to do once you pass Oaxaca, so you should just follow this map from Guia Roji --... [more]

I'd say for such a young faith -- compared with the others listed -- seventh place ain't bad. (Although the LDS would probably like to be included under "Christians," despite most Christians' resistance to that idea. And also although the LDS church is being outpaced, in terms of growth, by Christian evangelist groups these days.)

Just to be clear: I wasn't trying to say the LDS is or is not Christian. They say they are, others say they aren't. Me, I just don't have a dog in that fight.

That's fair enough, I'm kind of camera-shy myself. But a voyeur when it comes to photos of others, and in certain periods of my life have been rather aggressive behind the camera. Cheers, glad you guys had a good time. Maybe in a couple of years!

Gawd, this again? Next why don't we rehash such fun usage arguments as "soccer" vs. "football" and whether baseball's "World Series" personifies U.S. arrogance.
To answer the question, which I assume was posed in good faith, I suggest it's usually just a dig at Americans. If it's true, as some have said here, that it's used in the interest of precision -- well, to me that smacks a little of Esperanto-style evangelism. Based on a (sometimes... [more]

Tip: Transfer at Embarcadero for best results, since by the time the N gets to Civic Center it's often jam-freakin'-packed with people fleeing downtown after the end of the workday.

Mefi Disposable Camera Swap
Sounds like an interesting project I'd be interested in participating in. I imagine my residence in another country would be both a possible attractive wrinkle and a logistical downside, especially given the time constraints. But if you feel like shipping FedEx or DHL, or want to continue the project beyond the April 7 deadline, I'd be up.

Yeah, see, it's not USPS I'm worried about but rather Correos Mexicanos. In my experience a package mailed here from the U.S. takes at least 3-4 weeks and runs the risk of never arriving. Still, I'll email you.

Entirely missed the first time around, thanks for the reminder. Am signing up. Have the bad fortune of living in a place with spotty mail delivery, so if the CDs don't arrive I'll probably have to blame the evil local postal service rather than flaky MeFites. Ah well: You pays your money, you takes your chances.

Not as ugly as Portugal-Holland. Ick. The not-so-bonito jogo.
L-hat: I don't know, I've lived in BsAs and Berlin both, and I like the Germans in the coming matchup. Those Polish-born strikers are looking awfully strong. In any case, should be a great match and it's sort of a shame these two have to meet so early (as opposed to the... [more]

Because putting his points in "scare quotes" and pointing out that people who don't read him aren't interested in what he's saying sure puts ol' Noam in his place.
That transcript would've been much better without the stupid [audience roars] stuff, but your critique is silly.

There may well have been more to the speech. But I can only react to what I read, and I found his argument silly and paternalistic. If there's a more nuanced version out there somewhere I would likely react differently. Chomsky even says in the transcript that he's oversimplifying, I suppose I should have given him credit for that.
It's also probably only fair that I provide an example of what I disliked about it:
You know, I remember... [more]
