MeFi post: Are the seams in your hose often crooked?
Wait a minute, what the hell is wrong with Red fingernail polish?

= hussy, tramp. Same with bright red lipstick.

I will at least give this credit for having merits and demerits for the husband's behavior too. Most of these "how to be a good wife" things were all about what the women should do for the men.

MeFi post: Nigerian Scammers
Well, I don't know about anyone else, but the customer support responses received by dude trying to sell on ebay sound exactly like the customer service response I get at other online sites - especially tech support tickets.

The customer service reps appear to be pressured to answer X number of queries per hour. They skim, see one or two key words, and kick out canned response Y. Case "resolved." Boss happy.

Except, of course, the... [more]

I can't wait for the next, shocking exposé on how Coke isn't really 'it', or on how I'm not actually lovin' McDonalds.

Advertising isn't 100% true?
Oh.My.God.

Okay the cynical/jaded/sarcastic thing here and in other post threads is getting old. Bully for you for not being taken in/being shocked/being beyond outraged/etc. Now could we perhaps talk about some other aspect of the story?... [more]

MeFi post: Is it Sweeps Week already?
Well, I have my doubts about this being any sort of conspiracy, but IF all of these things are related (beyond the obvious drunk and a danger to self connection), then the common graffiti motifs (IF they are in fact common to the actual "crime" scenes) might be explained by some sort of frat meme that's spreading around. I'm not sure what this might be - some sort of dare/ritual/hazing thing?

That seems far more likely than a conspiracy by geographically... [more]

Good stuff. I'd have made it faster - the film at least - to imply more chaos or things going wrong quickly. But fun, nonetheless.

MeFi post: Danish Wind Turbine Loses Battle with Wind
I, for one, do not understand the anti-wind-turbine-because-of-aesthetics crowd. I think they're awesome - big, stately, quiet, and a lovely precursor of the ultra-modern high-tech lifestyle they're always promising us in movies set in the future (or the Jetsons). Plus, I'd much rather have one of these in my back yard than a nuclear power plant.

It was thanks to a similar MetaFilter post that I clued in about one of these coming on and managed to shut down the TV before my three year old and two year old saw them. Like someone else mentioned above, they were on during a hockey game.

MeFi post: Free Range Kids
The part that got me most about this story, was the fact that she wouldn't let him have a cell phone... in case he lost it. Apparently she thought it was okay to for him to potentially be lost, but lose a cell phone? Heck no, those are expensive. [The other way of looking at that is that apparently she thought he wasn't responsible enough to take care of it, but somehow was responsible enough to go home on his own?]

I also thought it was just generally stupid of her not... [more]

Come on, if Canadian aerospace was so great, would axing ONE project really have such a monumental impact, as claimed by these paranoid hyper-patriots?

Um, that would be because it put thousands of very talented people in a specialized industry out of work all at once, many of whom left the country?

Canada's population at the time was only about 17 million. ~14,000 unemployed in any industry would have had significant knock... [more]
