That Golden Girl
Bummer. Interesting fact, she was 10 months younger than Golden Girls daughter Bea Arthur.

Dear Col. Trautman,
LA's great. Saw Batman and Spiderman and the Hollywood sign. Locals are pretty friendly. Friendlier than Burma, anyway. Stay out of trouble!
Signed,
Rammy

Scott McClellan was "badly misguided"
People will talk about this for a week, some will make a big deal of it, some will accuse him of just trying to sell some books, and then it will die down. Too little too late.
I would have liked to have seen him up at the podium at a press conference at the White House one day when he still had the job, with a Network-esque breakdown... "...you know, I just can't do this anymore. We've really messed things up. Here's how."

School board president: "Okay, principal, this Sharpie banning thing is getting a bit of press. We'd just like all the notes on this issue; we're sure you're probably in the clear here but we just need all the documentation."
Principal Benisch: "No problem, I understand."
School board president: "If you could just put it all on a CD for us, oh and be sure to label them for each board member so they don't get mixed... [more]

MAD: History of the Al Jaffee fold-in
One of the best things about going to my grandparents house when I was little was looking through my dad's old comics from the 60s... mostly Sad Sack and MAD. I didn't understand the political humor or the movie spoofs, but I loved Dave Berg's* "The Lighter Side of," Don Martin, Sergio Aragones, and, of course, fold-ins. I'd pour over them time and again.
*I love Berg's early artwork .. when I got a subscription myself in the early 90s, his stuff... [more]

Only half joking... I could watch that thing over and over.
American Movie has to be my favorite. Stevie is great, too.

Don't copy that floppy (or workbook)
See also.
Yeah, I don't see it as much of a whisteblowing database as much as "look what lawsuits have come about or have been settled" database. They're not asking for incidents of infringements, but lawsuits and letters. I think the point is educators need to learn about copyright to avoid getting themselves in these situations.

MAD Magazine did a spot-on perfect send up of MDJ back in 1989. Cover here (if anyone can find the actual contents scanned, that would be just awesome).

Shepard Fairey, Plagiarist?
I don't know, some if might cross the line, but to me much of it isn't any different than Quentin Tarantino using Bruce Lee's jumpsuit in Kill Bill. PS, you might want to indicate that you are quoting from that website.

Space shuttle does a back flip
If you start playing The Blue Danube right after the countdown on the real time version, it's pretty neat.
I thought you were supposed to start it after the third lion's roar.

Who is Grady Harp?
I had Amazon's #2 reviewer as a high school drama and literature teacher.
This was before Amazon, or at least before anyone knew about Amazon. I was impressed with the fact that he had seemed to have watched every movie ever made, owned just about every CD you could think of, and knew more about contemporary pop culture than the high schoolers to which it was aimed.
Plus, he picked Sweeney Todd for our class play, which was pretty cool... [more]

Best Buy Bodhisattva
I've had those days playing Counter-Strike.
I was playing dust2, only CT left, bomb had been planted, coming up long A towards the site.
I spot the only T left in a corner by the bomb site... take out an HE grenade, without breaking a stride throw a strike and nail him with it from distance, taking him out.
After I respawned and could hear/see people's messages, someone said something about Payton Manning.... [more]

The Wire Prequels
Count me in as a Wire fan. Most of the way through season 2 right now, wondering what took me so long finding it in the first place.
Am I wrong to suggest it's better than Sopranos? Are they apples and oranges? I've seen every episode of Sopranos and loved it, but I'd have to go back and watch it after watching The Wire, see if it still holds up.
The Wire seems to a much "tighter" show than The Sopranos story-wise through the course of the season.

I'm pretty sure Eidos pressured Gamespot in other reviews, too, especially against their competition. I hear Gamespot originally gave Big Rigs a 10.0 rating before Eidos stepped in.
