MeTa post: It's the New Madrid Fault!
We are in Des Moines... didn't feel it in our sleep but we woke up to our two budgies startled and flying around in their cage right at that time.

MeTa post: Where everybody knows your name...
I've been curious about this game. How would it play on an nVidia 6600 GT (128meg), AMD 2800, 512 RAM? CS: Source and HL2 run fine on my low-ish resolution monitor.

MeTa post: From the green to the blue!
Not that I have made many posts, but I think the best written ones, no matter what the content, are written like a good news lead. They give the who, what, why, when, where and how simply and to the point. They don't leave you guessing where the links click to (I like the motto "Don't make me think!")

That said, once you master the basics there are great posts that use interesting formatting or mystery as a hook.... [more]

MeTa post: My Ask MeFi
That's pretty sweet.

I check the "popular" pretty often, so it might be redundant, but maybe there could be an option for including any question over X number of favorites, regardless if it is within your categories or tags.

MeTa post: Metafilter Infodump: more stats than you can shake a stick at.
Is there a list for most favorited comments (24 hours/week/month/all time)?

Yes

Kind of. Filtering comments only and being able to do all time (and monthly) would be nice.

(Oh, I see... comments on the right.. the layout is a little confusing there... still, all time would be nice).

MeTa post: Spelling and grammar guideline?
Anyone who isn't educated enough to spell should be baned.

MeTa post: Oh boy! Sleep! That's where I'm a MeFite!
I just like that the original post had over 400 freakin' comments. It's the viking of posts.

MeTa post: MeFi Mail is here
This is cool. Adds to the BBS feel. Now how about TradeWars 2002?

I like the ironic twist that these callouts take- drawing attention to the debatably weak FPP, and people like me who wouldn't have read it now check it out. Thanks!

MeTa post: Maybe this has been proposed on the 'Talk before,...
I think the chat about the links is almost always as much or more interesting than the links themselves.

MeTa post: Just out of curiosity - Were you a BBSer? Did you...
Yes in High School. Area code 218. The Wormhole. PegaSys software (based on WWIV, similar to RENEGADE). 1995-1996ish.

It was 14.4 but I BBSed for a couple years at 2400 on a Mac.

Even though it was on the tail end of the years of BBSing's popularity, it was still tons of fun.

Just because the question is deleted doesn't mean they will give up on it in real life. And maybe they'll get worse advice elsewhere after they are shot down on MeFi.

Might as well leave the question and try to guide them as ethically and legally as possible. And if it's a terrible idea, tell them so and why.
