WOW! 352 comments, all by delmoi!
Someone else has already picked that quote out, but that was the point at which I lost it and started laughing a lot.

Third Time's A Charm For Hero?
I hadn't come across this story before - thanks for the links. She sounds like the kind of person who, at the point she started university, would have made headlines in the Oxford student papers. (By way of comparison, I went to college with someone who was severely dyslexic to the point of only being able to write 2 words a minute - and 15 when they started their degree. They were brilliant. And got widely reported both in the student press and the national press). Neither Cherwell or the... [more]

When is the best time to ask?
There have been discussions on this theme in the past - 1, 2, 3 for starters.
In terms of maximum audience I've often thought late afternoon-GMT is good, because you have lots of the European members reaching the end of work and getting bored, east coasters getting to lunchtime, and those further west nearer the start of the day - so you're getting times when lots of people will tend to be reading. That doesn't apply at weekends obviously, though.... [more]

Hurray, a meetup I am actually free for! I can do either at the moment.

I'll be coming back from Bedfordshire that evening but should be there relatively early-ish, I hope. At least having a meeting outside London prevents me from getting stuck in the office like last time.

Where do Metafilter people meet their mates online?...
I think we're going to see this someday, I really do. Maybe not a random proposal, but some sort of marriage proposal.
MarryMe would indeed be an awesome, if probably underused, new feature.

The AskMe posts would be brilliant:
- help me ask out this cool girl
- I think I want to get serious with this girl I met, how do I do so?
- tell me cool ways to propose
- looking for great wedding venues in x area
- seeking marriage counsellors in x area
- I need a good divorce lawyer in x area
- how to meet new people in x area

London, UK meetup. Attempt at organising a venue...
A belated "count me in" - missed the earlier thread. I'm not so fussed about venue but somewhere relatively uncrowded, if such a thing is possible, or alternatively somewhere we can reserve a table or two, would be good.

This is what I wanted to say when I read this post. I am so sorry; but I am glad you made it through it.

i think it would do well to complain loudly about this
I think it would do well not to complain until there is some evidence that he is actually connected to this. As peacay says, the only firm link is to Business Week.

It's not registered - I can e-mail you the registered one if you really want to honour the bet, but don't worry about it, 3.2.3, really!

A comment in his latest digg submission links here.
By SonofaPreacher, no less.
On a different note I am happy to report that 3.2.3 honoured the bet, despite my protestations - what a fantastic guy. This sort of thing is why I love this place.

Well, as it turns out, posting to Metafilter using opera on the wii is a massive pain in the ass. But it works, as this clearly shows.
Grr, bah humbug, etc.
I'm going to go and queue for one today - was 9th in the queue for the seven that arrived in Game in Victoria Station yesterday. I'm told they have a dozen coming in today so will be first in the queue at 8am when they open...

I had exactly the same experience the other day when I met someone who said they had cited an article of mine in their postgrad thesis. It made my week. Thanks for posting the e-mail, it is fantastic that MeFi can make connections like this.
