Thought or not
As someone who is sometimes an asswad and a fuckhat herself, I think that namecalling can be useful. As a dog trainer, I constantly remind my clients that any behavior that gets reinforced will tend to occur more frequently. Any behavior that is punished, will tend to occur less frequently.
Some behaviors, when they are ignored, will also occur less frequently, but that's not the case with self-rewarding behaviors. Behaviors that are inherently fun, like barking,... [more]

Scientology and Metafilter: Perfect together?
Ads are ads, and we don't have to click on them if we don't like them. We Mefites are a smart bunch, and I don't think that any of us are in danger of becoming Scientologists just because we're exposed to the occasional Xenuphilic text ad.
We're also dumb enough to give the mods plenty of work without asking them to police randomly-generated ads.
My policy, when I come across an ad I don't like on a site that I use and enjoy is to click that... [more]

I'm also thinking Mr. Steve etcetera is a tincture of evil. The idiocy that spews from his keyboard can't be explained by mere stupidity.
Mr. Steve blah blah blah is a tincture of pure tapioca. His commentary is stupid, but hardly original. He wants badly to stand out, needs it even, but he's not creative or insightful enough. He's given up on conservative forums because he's frustrated that his boring, poorly thought out comments get overshadowed.... [more]

the sun... it's so bright!
Oh! That sounds great. I teach classes on Sundays, but I'd love to go on a Saturday.
Another idea: I never get to go to Hamilton Pool, because they don't allow dogs and all of the people I do fun, outdoorsy stuff with have dogs. It's a state park, so there's a charge of $8 per car, but I suspect that any outing we do will involve carpooling anyways.

I sure did! It was one of those "driveway moments" that they're always talking about during pledge drives, for sure.

Godwin!
I thought the original comment was stupid and long-winded, and not worthy of being sidebarred, but you know what?
Until the Neocons among us can create a site as compelling and widely-read as Metafilter, they should quit their bitching. Most of us are here because we like it here. Neither the mods nor the hivemind owe you a damned thing, and you're entitled to the same thing as the rest of us: nothing.
Conservatives get their panties in a wad... [more]

Yay, it's random unrelated grievance time! Grind those axes, kids!
Oh, it wasn't an unrelated grievance, my little snowflake. If you feel personally insulted, it's probably because you should be.

Ho, Ho, Ho.
Mr. Pr0n and I decided not to give presents this year, but he did get me a bag of Swedish Fish. And I'll be damned, it's exactly what I wanted.

Follow up on Duclod posts.
Who could have guessed that the Duclod story would turn into a parable of sorts? When we feel harassed and threatened, we almost always assume that our attackers must, in at least one way, be stronger than us.
Aswell didn't have to humanize Rick/Richard; she could have used the facts that she had to demonize him and his family.
She didn't. I read the Duclod stories because I'm human and I have a dumb side that likes to stare at trainwrecks. The... [more]

Cheating woman thrashed on radio prank show
People often wind up with the partners they deserve. Regardez: Mr. Craigslist. When you're a misogynistic fucksprocket, you're likely to attract your female counterpart, a woman who thinks that men are so stupid they won't ask twice when she tells them that they've inseminated her.
When he decided to have a "casual, pleasant relationship" with this woman and neither asked for or offered any sort of commitment from this, he forfeited his right to get his tighty... [more]

Ok, you freaks. WTF is up with the elephants?...
A few of these posts were truly the best of the web. Yes, elephants are funny because they're big and they make big poops, but elephants make for some exciting ethology.
The Cartesian model of animal behavior has been accepted for centuries, and it's killing not just animals, but people.
Can Gorilla day be next??? Please???
