Help me transform myself from someone who knows how to swim (albeit inefficiently) into a real swimmer who swims laps for exercise.

I'm a dog trainer. Almost 100% of the potential clients who telephone me sign up for lessons. Far fewer, about 40% of the people who email me, sign up for lessons. The other 60% don't respond to my email. How can I get that other 60% to sign up?

Help me find a beach getaway in Texas that's cheap and easy enough to let me do it a few times a year when the mood strikes me.
I hate flying and driving, so my options are limited to places that are serviced by Greyhound or regional bus companies. No out-of-the-way small towns, but most big towns are go.

What sort of things do you do, besides a vigorous romp in the hay, that leave you feeling so utterly relaxed and happy that your glow is obvious to random passers-by? What makes your inner light shine so bright that it's utterly contagious?

I'm looking for a single that was popular on college radio during 1987 or 1988. The refrain was "I'm still waiting for you to realise that I'm alive," sung by a young female voice

My 8 year old Border Collie mix has been experiencing weakness in his hind legs recently. He often doesn't have the strength to jump up on the couch or the bed. He doesn't seem to be in any acute pain, but he's reluctant to walk long distances (more than 100 yards.) He's in good spirits, and shows no urinary or bowel incontinence. He doesn't knuckle under when he walks, but does turn his feet out. When he stands, his hind legs splay out. Does this sound familiar to anyone??

Tell me some great, effective ways to market my dog training business. For example, how do I promote myself to veterinary clinics who don't know me yet? What will really help me get my name out there?

I often want to see bands that none of my friends want to see, but I stay home because I'm afraid to go to clubs all by myself.
What do you do when you go to a club all alone?

I have a huge mental block when it comes to writing songs that is the direct result of being ridiculed or sometimes even punished by my father when I was little. It's so bad that even when I try, a little voice in my head screams, "no, no, no!" and I just shut down.
Freewriting is great, but I need to be able to ignore that voice even when I'm writing thoughtfully and paying attention to conventions like rhyme, rhythm and melody.
I have plenty of ideas, but I need help learning how to get them out onto paper.
Any ideas?

I found armadillos for sale at a meat market in San Francisco's Chinatown. My question is who buys them, and what do they do with them? And where did they come from? That market has had them on several occasions, so someone must be buying them.

I've always admired people who are just genuinely nice, warm folks and inspire everyone they talk to. I'd like to be one of those people when I grow up, but I don't know how to do it. Sometimes, when I do or say nice things, people get freaked out and think that I'm hitting on them, want something from them or am being insincere. That isn't the case, but every time it happens, I get a little more timid about doing nice things for people.
It's easy to get by with a prickly Dorothy Parker routine, but that's not how I want to live my life. And I'm sick of not doing or saying nice things just because I'm not socially adept enough to pull it off.
Being an asshole is easy, and no one ever questions your motives. How can I, as an introvert, act upon my nice impulses without freaking people out? What's the secret to being a mensch?

I am researching the best way to accomplish this task: make life-sized, edible, realistic replicas of a razor blade, suitable to bring to a Halloween party next year. What sort of candy medium would work bestl?

I've scrupulously screened my therapists to find talented, qualified people who are good at what they do, but my therapeutic relationships always peter out after a few months. How can I keep my psychotherapy on track? Please read the more inside!

Is it harmful in any way to break one's daily eight hours of sleep into two segments on a long-term basis? I can't really find any good info one way or the other.

Ten years ago, I found a pair of amazing metal slides while biking around in San Francisco. They were somewhere in Diamond Heights.
Even at the time, they seemed impossibly old-school - they must have been 30 feet high, and they were FAST!
I've never found them again. Where were/are they?

Any recommendations for a computer program that will make learning and/or transcribing complex basslines easier? I would like to find a simple way to slow down an audio track and isolate the bass guitar sound.

convergence insufficiency. Can anyone who has been through treatment tell me whether it helped them, and if they thought it was worth the effort and expense?

I want to make a compilation of songs that are absolutely impossible to dance to. The odder the meter, the more disconcerting the time changes, the better. I want songs so undanceable-to that they would leave even Dave Brubeck and Jaco Pastorius staring uncomfortably at their feet, wondering where the punchbowl was.

Since childhood, I have had a facial rash - scaly red bumps in my nasolabial folds and on my chin. It never seems to get any better or any worse, and it doesn't appear on any other part of my body. What is it?

I have a hard time preparing and eating three healthy meals a day. I 'm a great cook and I've taken college-level nutrition courses, but there's a big difference between knowing how to make one particular dish and being able to shop for, prepare and eat three meals a day, five or six days a week.
I've tried many times to have a healthier diet. It's not that I crave fast-food or junk - I prefer foods that are good for me. But I just can't get to a point where I consistently eat good food on any sort of schedule. [mi]

I work with dogs who suffer from severe thunderstorm phobia. It's a difficult problem to manage because there are so many stimuli involved - the noise, the lightning itself, the smell of ozone, etc. These dogs seem to be able to sense atmospheric electrical charges that occur during thunderstorms - they feel the static in the air. Many of them head to the bathtub. I assume that the grounding plumbing pipes provide discharges the static.
I would like to build something that would help dogs who are fearful of the electrical phenomena that occur during thunderstorms, but I lack the physics background to even articulate clearly what I'm looking for.
Ideas, anyone?

For as long as I can remember, I've had an odd physical reaction to things that disgust me. My feet and hands ache, and I lose fine motor control - I can't make my hands do what I want them to do. They just hang there, dead, until the feeling passes. This reaction is strongly tied to disgust - other strong emotions such as joy, anger or sadness don't have the same effect on me.
When I asked my GP about this, he just shrugged. He said that he'd never heard of this before, but that our bodies sometimes act in strange ways and that I shouldn't be too worried about it.
Does anyone know what this is about? Is there a name for it? What does it mean???

I have two well-trained, photogenic dogs. A photographer recently suggested to me that other professional photographers might like to use them as models. How do I go about finding people who are interested in hiring my dogs?
