Holy crap, what a thread. It was chatty, but fine - interesting to see so many people who don't like to get photographed. Then nixerman just knocked it out of the ballpark for compassion and empathy with his "if you don't want photos, stay at home" crap. (I'm being sarcastic, obviously).

Yeah, I saw this site a while back and put in in my Flickr stream and ranted a little about it - the cofounder responded to me, which was nice to do. My frustration isn't so much with them but with any startup which thinks they can take on established players without having anything particularily new to offer. It's the same thing in the video sharing arena - you've got to be offering a lot more to go up against YouTubeGoogle, no? And nine times out of ten they don't really have anything... [more]

Oh, I don't know, EndsofInvention - because he highlighted what he thought was good, which helps us answer his question, and yes, sharing the links to what he liked seemed to be a nice thing to do. There are lots of good examples of AskMes, and sure, I tend to pass on the mixtape questions, too... but this one seemed interesting to look at a specific type of musical occurance across genres.

The picture of your son with his first flight certificate is adorable - as is he. Thanks so much for sharing these - nice to see this kind of real world follow up, and the joy of a kid experiencing something for the first time is priceless. It's like seeing matthowie's pics of his kid *glasses steam up, eyes well up with tears, etc. etc.* Good stuff, kids.

Love the design (viva transparency!) and the content looks swell, too. I love it when people share their best practices and experiences - it really helps people just starting out *and* the old geezers among us as well. Would that more people did it. Actually I use LibraryThing to list a lot of my work related books, and Listal for my list of books/movies/music etc. that I'd like to read/listen to etc.

thank you, pheariez - people do tend to refer to Government as if it's a monolithic entity. I've been a civil servant, and that will quickly teach you that there's a variety of faces and skill sets behind the face of 'Government'. It's like refering to 'society' as if one version of it exists.

I'm with koeselitz's suggestion about making a FPP with the links to the essays rather than that thread. well, what about something like what the folks at upcoming.org had (before they got bought by Yahoo) - a development wiki under the section marked "Feedback and Announcements"? There you can have the Official To-Do List and Feature Requests and whatnot. It might help Matt keep track of things, development wise, and if people want to bitch about what's not being done, well, they can bitch on the feature request page all they want ;) You don't even have to put actual dates on the to-do...
