What movie is this?
If it is indeed a Boy and His Dog, that movie is in the public domain now and is watchable online here.

Guys,
I hate to break it to you, but speedtest.net is owned and operated by none other than Speakeasy.
Always has been, too.
The differences you see are probably based on which test server you are using.

Error 12007
Can you clarify what you mean by "Once in a blue moon I need to go into the cmd prompt and do a reset of a couple things, and that also fixes it."
Are you by chance releasing and renewing a DHCP lease? (command "ipconfig /release" followed by "ipconfig /renew") ?

Disillusioned, when you use words like "trochaic tetrameter," you drive me mad as I search like mad to find out exactly what that term means and what else I forgot from English Lit class. :-)
Anoymous- to your question "is it best to walk away from this situation" I would say no, stick it out/ figure it out. There is obviously something you really like about her, so you owe it to yourself to get through this and/or learn from it.

Blowing smoke up my ass
This may be surprising, but there are very few peer-reviewed articles regarding the carcinogenic affects of cigar-butt-smoking. (CBS)
However, I would speculate that CBS would expose the tissues in your colon to the same carcinogens as the ones that cause lung cancer.
There was a famous performer in france who could smoke cigarettes with his butt. I believe his name was Le Petomane, but I may be confusing him with a different famous Fartiste.... [more]

And Here is a list of numbers that always ring busy.

Can you post the second octet of that 172.xxx. address? (The number right after the dot after 172). If the second number is between 16 and 32, it is a private address. Meaning it is happening behind the firewall of your main internet connection.

I concur with Chocolate pickle- I would send an email to your guests saying "I am just learning about wines, can you please suggest your favorite? We will be serving xyz. "
My money says that not only will you get suggestions, but most house guests will also bring a wine for you to try. You can then serve these bottles along with the ones they suggested, and a grand time will be had by all.

Cheapest way to cover my feet?
A few years ago, I threw away 100% of my white socks and bought Haynes (ankle high white athetic socks) and Gold Toe (long dress blacks) from Costco. I bought something insane- like 100 pairs.
I believe only one sock has worn out, and the upside is I don't have to mix and match after laundry.
I cannot recommend this strongly enough! The secret is, YOU MUST THROW AWAY YOUR OLD SOCKS.

New DVD box set won't play o DVD player but plays fine on my PC. Why?
If its been "Region Unlocked" this more than likely means you set the region to ZERO. This used to mean that it would play any region discs, but many studios fought back by changing the disc to play on region 1 ONLY, as opposed to region 0 or 1.
Go into your RCA region setting and change it to one. I bet that does the trick.

Here's how to change the Region to 1 on many RCA players:
To check the current setting:
open tray, clear, 1,3,7,9
To change the current setting to "1"
open tray, clear, 1,3,6,9,1, turn off, turn on

How private are my SMS messages?
Yes, it is possible for the BES server to log SMS messages. However, your administrator would have to force the BES to log them, and 99% of BES administrators don't do that.
Interestingly enough, apparently BBM messages are not retrievable.

Yes, you are allowed to leave any portion of the ballot blank. Only marked votes count. However, you could probably research the candidates for those spots relatively quickly if you chose to go ahead and vote in those elections as well.

All of the suggestions about forwarding the call to a VOIP number overlook the fact that interviews should not be conducted over VOIP unless it is completely unavoidable. Interviews should be given with the highest fidelity possible, since they will likely be re-encoded or compressed anyway.

Toronto Wedding Cake on a budget
My friend Sam taught me the following trick:
On the week before his wedding date, he shopped for an "Anniversary Cake" that was allegedly going to be given to his parents and their anniversary party. He described the cake (flavoring, coloring, etc.) and found that it cost about 60% less than an identical "Wedding" cake. His theory is that bakers (caterers and bands as well) tend to gouge people if they know its for a wedding.
YMMV as well as YEMV.

Very Fickle Wireless Network
First of all, make sure the Vista laptops are not setup to see "G only" networks- this may be in the wireless card utility or in network settings. Secondly, try changing the channel on the Netgear B network (try either 1, 6, or 11) in case the Vista laptops are receiving interference from another AP n the same channel.
If these two steps do not work, I would disable MAC filtering on the AP.
For troubleshooting, two programs that may... [more]

Why does my C2D Macbook Pro fan run constantly?
I use iStat Menus to watch all the temperatures as well as CPU utilization, and do not see any unusual spikes (my CPU cores are currently running at 3% and 5%, with GPU temp at 106, CPU temp at 115, Enclosure bottom 90F, and Memory bank at 131.
Do those data points indicate anything interesting? I assume because of the variance in temperatures the thermal sensors must be working. iStat menus also says Right Fan is at 5998 RMP and Left Fan is at 5996 RPM.

As an added bonus, once you have the Vista VM working on the WiFi, Safari/ Firefox will work as well. Here you go. Good luck!

Don 't worry about "802.11a friendly". What you really want is "802.11n friendly"
802.11n, the "nextgen" or WiFi, is both 2.4 ghz and 5.x ghz (not sure if it's 5.3 or 5.8ghz or maybe even both, wikipedia is not helping since it only says "2.4 and 5ghz")
So I would say go for the 900mhz models, especially ones that do DHSS.

Repair permissions, reset PRAM, remove all USB devices one by one to see if there is a conflict somewhere.
I also superstitiously believe that USB flash devices should be connected directly rather than through a USB hub (even the one that Apple provides on the keyboard). I have only anecdotal evidence to support this theory.

For the record, I agree with Kadin2048's suggestion of putting up two Wifi networks with non-overlapping channels. You can even set the clients (laptops, etc) to fail over automatically from one SSID to the other.
