Quick -- I leave work at 4 and the iPod that I usually listen to on the bus ride home has no battery left. What can I find online to print out to read that will entertain me for 20-45 minutes?

"I have a murderer's music on my iPod and, almost reflexively, I couldn't help but think of him while listening to these songs—they were his songs, songs he gave me. [...] Listening to his music put me inside [his] head. [...] I wanted to throw up." [more inside]

I know that it's Christmas, and
filmgeek seems like a great guy, and
this is indeed a great post. But are the paragraph breaks really necessary? It seems like they don't really add anything to the post, and they don't make the link any more clear or insightful. I don't really see why they have to be there, and they kind of throw off the eye when browsing the blue.
Sorry if this is the Worst Callout Ever. I realize that the topic of line breaks has been touched on
before, but as far as I can tell, we haven't gotten into the paragraph breaks too much. What is the policy on this? (To be clear, I don't intend this as a filmgeek callout, just a paragraph break callout).

I'm trying to decide whether or not to post a particular FPP. Would the following be a case of
PepsiBlue?
Audible.com has recently lowered the price of several of its radio shows, including the popular-among-MeFites This American Life, to
$.95 an episode. I know that TAL episodes can be acquired via - *ahem* - other - methods, but TAL's high cost on Audible (used to be $4 a show?) have been griped about around here before, and it seems like people would be interested in seeing the news about the reduction in cost.
I don't work for Audible, and I have had my complaints about them in the past, but I think this is pretty cool and don't know how many other folks know about it. On the other hand, I don't want to be an annoying pain in the ass.

Tabblo
looks pretty cool. It will integrate with Flickr photos (or upload your own) and let you make a collage-style poster that can be had for $20. Very web 2.0-ish, but seems to be well executed. This could be an easy way to make a poster of album art? (via
Lifehacker, via
Techcrunch).

Several days ago, I found an unauthorized charge (a $40 withdrawal from savings) on my bank statement. I called my bank (Bank of America, Seattle customer, FWIW) and they confirmed that the withdrawal was made from an ATM in the area. This strikes me as a Very Bad Thing, because whoever did it must have had an ATM card that was mine (they didn't; I haven't lost my card) or that appeared to be mine, and (s)he also would have had to have my PIN. Now I have a few more questions.

Ever heard of
Andy Martin? Probably not. But have you ever watched Family Guy or King of the Hill, or watched movies such as Spiderman, The Day After Tomorrow, or Monsters, Inc? Andy is on all of them. Trombonist Martin is one of many studio musicians (aka
session musicians) in the LA area who are called upon day after day to record the music that we take for granted. Although it may not be the most fulfilling job, it pays the bills, and for someone with a talent as relatively obscure as trombone playing (or clarinet playing, or drumming, or anything else), it's one of the
few careers left. Even so, drummer Russ Miller reminds us that studio musicians are rapidly being replaced by synthesizers (Hans Zimmer's score for Gladiator, for instance, uses lots of
synths in lieu of real players) and that
"we don't have the luxury of just playing our instrument like we used to".

Sonny Rollins, one of the founding tenors of bop and post-bop jazz, is
76 today. Unlike many
other jazz giants who passed away well before they ought to have, Sonny is still going strong.
Rollins became famous with his record
Saxophone Colossus which included, among others, the memorable
St. Thomas. Sonny also became known for his ability to craft imaginative, articulate solos while playing with just a bassist and drummer (without the benefit of a chordal instrument such as piano to "flesh out" the harmonies).
Happy Birthday, Sonny!
