Ask post: Debilitating pain in both heels.
Nthing plantar ... Also, make sure of the following:

1) That your shoes are properly fitted. I always would measure my right foot - size 13 - and get a pair of shoes that were that size. Unfortunately my left foot was 13.5 inches. Down the road I had tremendous pain. I also wear shoes that support my very very flat arches.

2) Rotate your shoes. Don't wear the same pair day after day.

3) Discard them when the soles are... [more]

Ask post: Help me plan a prank centered around getting snipped.
I'd work up a scenario a few months later where a lady says she's pregnant by him...with the timeline coming after he got snipped.

Ask post: How to combat short-term memory loss due to interrupted sleep?
@theora55: Yep, that's her. Loves to party at 4:30am. Sometimes 3:30 is good too. Sometimes we can get her to sleep after she wakes up. As soon as she realizes she's hitting the bed of her crib, she gets back up.

Keep the advice coming. I'll have to see if mrs. eastcoastbias will agree to the ferber method.

It seems that baby eastcoastbias needs to be fed now and then at 3-4am, then goes back to sleep. Never mind that we often feed her before she falls asleep (by 9:30-10pm).

Ask post: Maybe they could try this on Joe Morgan for a few innings
<TimMcCarver>Do you know that when you walk the leadoff hitter that he'll score about 70% of the time?</TimMcCarver>

Watched plenty of Tim McCarver as a Mets fan....if he could ratchet back the ObviousMeter for a second, it'd be awesome. I think he's intelligent and thoughtful, but repeats the same tired stats over and over. He could just sit quiet for a larger portion of the game and it'd be enjoyable.

Ask post: Sit, Firefox! Stay.... good boy.
@the_epicurean: The Extension is called MinimizeToTray. There is an option that says "Always minimize to the tray instead of taskbar." Maybe it's acting a little wonky, if it's installed.

My suggestion would be disable your extensions and see if it still exhibits the behavior you describe.

My advice: leave. I recently made that decision, and I am glad I did. Life is too short.

I had something similar; it ended up being a loose distributor cap. Really annoying problem.

Ask post: Is my camera possessed?
I had my PC Shut off when I accidentally sent a current up the USB cable (9v, long story) - this may be your motherboard protecting itself.

I'd recommend the card reader route.

Ask post: To go under or not to go under
To second what mdonley said, I had the anesthesia - the surgeon notified me that my lower wisdom teeth broken into about 15 pieces. I would NOT have wanted to be awake for the surgery. I had the lower two wisdom teeth impacted severely.

My sister stayed awake with novo several years ago. I don't think she's been back to remove the uppers.

After my surgery, I was loopy and what not. But I was fine. I would not want to be awake and remember the experience.

Ask post: Favorite Nikon Macro Lens?
I bought a Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro lens. Love it. I bought it before I got a DSLR.

With my D70, the focal range is more like 135mm and I still get me 1:1 repro. In my flickr profile I have a set of Heirloom Tomatoes I shot with that lens.

Reviews for that lens should be largely positive.

Ask post: self building a quiet computer
Seems decent, but you have to also consider the noise your PSU makes and the Hard Drives you'll have in the unit.

You may want to consult Silent PC Review, they may help as well. I'd like to purchase or buy a quieter PC that sits in my living room without the high pitch wheezing and whirring that I have with my current machine.

Ask post: IBS help, PLEASE!
As stated:

- don't overeat
- eat slowly (don't be swayed by people who wolf down their food without tasting it)
- avoid greasy foods.

I also suffer from lactose intolerance, so I avoid dairy if I can, also purchase Lactaid tablets and Milk. That may be something you want to also consider.

Ask post: What is it about Rudy?
This is the mayor who kind of championed the whole "If you disagree with me, it's a political ploy" BS that the Bush administration uses so frequently.

He tries to shut down art that he doesn't agree with, breaks up with his wife via press conference [5th paragraph down], and put a homeless shelter in a district of a councilman who proposed legislation to regulate homeless shelters.

Never mind that he had homeless people arrested (and... [more]

@kirkaracha: I think he did the drag dressup as part of a press roast ten years ago. Conservatives will still probably be scared.

I will say the bully can have a sense of humor, unlike anyone in the current administration.

Does this make him less presidential? No. The rest of his mayoral tenure had killed that idea for me a long time ago.

Ask post: How to tame a growing collection of RSS feeds?
I suffer from the same malady. Once in a while, I just take mental stock: "Is this feed something I want to continue reading?" If not, I just unsubscribe on the spot.

Another thing to consider - put new feeds in a quarantine folder (I think that idea was form 43Folders) and move it into a "regular" folder when you realize it's decent.

Another thing I will do is ensure that Updated posts are marked as "Ignore" in... [more]

irian,

While reading the feed in the right frame, you can click on "edit subscription" in the header. A popup window comes up, The option to change updated posts is third down ("Updated Items" - the default is "Display as new")

Ask post: Best place to grab Metro North in CT?
I third the Bridgeport Station. There are two parking garages close by (the Holiday Inn parking lot is across the street) and I can usually find a seat.

Ask post: Working out hard without working up food
I usually try not to eat an hour before working out (learned the hard way a few times on a few hard bike rides, etc.)

A prior trainer had me walk around outside to avoid getting sick because it was a very humid day and the AC was not working (ugh!).

Mr Gunn, thanks for the prior link - I'll read up there as well. My problem is not about running so much as that one is, however. It had happened to me once when working on weights as well.

Ask post: How to know if your company is fucked?
Training and supply budgets are slashed.
VP lays off sales force.
Projects are put off or cancelled.
VP comes by and talks to you (kinda rare) and mentions the phrase "transferable skills".
Your schedule, once packed with work, is winding down, and there's little work in sight.
Boss asks you to work closely with someone - this means you won't have to supply documentation going out of the door.

Ask post: Metal deodorant bars for garlic/onion?
For onions, I just take some regular table salt and rub my hands with it. Then rinse. Smell is gone.

Costs less than a metal bar, and I don't have to rub every nook and cranny of my fingers on a sink or some kind of metal.

Ask post: How to find customers to get a photo scanning business off the ground?
What if you advertise in local camera clubs or photo stores?

Be careful to know what your audience is for the photo stores - a rinky-dink shop that doesn't even have customers who use slide film may not be your best option.

Targeting pro shops, advance amateurs/enthusiasts, and the occasional person who has an old collection of slides would be the best option, IMHO.
