Where do they get all those wonderful data?
Good to know about IMDB.
I just printed Google Maps directions to a friend's new apartment for tomorrow noticed the directions say, "Map data (c) 2006 NAVTEQ(tm)"
Still curious about Pandora and the rest of the music sites. I know a lot of that data is user submitted as well...
@hades: That's also good to know what I would be up against if I ever did try to get something going as well. I don't have any definite... [more]

How do I get my business idea off the ground?
Entrees on Trays (http://www.entreesontrays.com/) is a business here in the Fort Worth, TX area that does exactly what you are looking to do. Take a look at the website. I know a guy that works there, so perhaps if you are interested in an inside view of the operations, I could hook you to up over email or something.

Can I sell a body part?
I think going back to school is indeed a good a possibility. Go for six hours and you can be in deferrment with your loans (most of them; not sure about the WF ones. definitely the federal ones.). Go to a state school because it's the cheapest. If you're paying $200 right now per month, then that should pay for six hours per semester (you don't have to go in summer) and give you a little bit to throw at them for good measure.

Try it using display:none instead of visibility:invisible. And I would also suggest putting your links in a list instead of just autonomous anchor tags. Here is something that could work (untested).
ul#navigation li ul {display: none;}
ul#navigation li:hover ul, ul#navigation li.over ul{display:block; position:absolute; top:1em;}
ul#navigation li {position:relative; display:inline;}
Then you can do something... [more]

Help us choose the right kind of premarital counseling.
I work in a counseling center, and many of our counselors use a relatively new framework called Narrative Therapy. A recent premarital counseling couple found this approach to be very helpful for framing their marriage together and for externalizing potential problems and working with each other to team up on the problem rather than locating problems in the other person. I would highly recommend it. Not sure what area you are in, but look for a counselor training center, many of which are... [more]

Ah, I guess I should have read your question more carefully. Fees are usually lower at such training centers. Many operate on a sliding scale, meaning they set your fee based on your situation, family size, income, etc.
Also, be sure to look for one that is AAPC accredited. The AAPC website might also be a good place to start looking for information and counselors.

Help my sync my folders
This hint over at MacOSXHints has an Applescript solution for this exact problem using Transmit and a local disk image. Like others have said here, you can add a cron job (Second recommendation for Cronnix. Fantastic one trick pony.) to do the sync in case a connection isn't available on edit. Scroll down the hint and modify the script as necessary to set up a Folder Action for your local copy for more automatic synching.... [more]

I am planning to do exactly as alms says in contemplating a replacement for my dearly beloved Powerbook G4 Cyprian (purchased June 2005) with the addition that I will wait until they release Leopard. The new machines next spring (think MacWorld and then spring break) should be really nice. By then hopefully they will have a new iPod out and I can buy my new Mac and a new iPod when they have the back to school promotion with iPod rebate.

Go to your local university library or order on through ILL. Look for books with "fake" in the title (as rec. above) and also for wedding books. If you are even decent pianist, you can sight read the fake charts in these books.

What happened to me?
You might do some reading on Borderline Personality Disorder. Check DSM-IV and see how familiar the characteristics sound to your mom's. I grew up in a very similar situation. When I graduated high school and went to college (in my home town, still living with my parents), my mom's behavior became more and more unstable. When I got engaged, she went over the edge. She eventually attacked my wife and me and attempted suicide. I ended up not talking to her for around a year and a half. We talk now,... [more]

What neat things can I do with my new cellphone?
If you are a blogger, you can moblog by text message if you set up a moblog email account. This varies by platform so consult your documentation or support forums. If you are a social butterfly, check out Dodgeball (http://www.dodgeball.com). The z520a camera isn't very good at all, but you could still post pictures to Flickr from your phone. Google SMS never ceases to amaze when I show people (much cheaper for directory assistance). Also, check out Lifehacker for various mobile power user tips.

How do we know so much about Roman history?
I can't help with the last bit, but you might check out your local university library in the "N" section. Art history scholarship will probably have a lot to say about this. The only thing that I do know for sure about sculpture is that realistic portraits were reserved only for the wealthy and/or powerful. Many busts of, for instance, Caesar look alike, so we are pretty sure that he looked at least very close to the portrayals in sculpture.
With regard to... [more]

I'll have to disagree with amberglow about the bust question. Stereotypes were used to depict commoners. Plebes were represented as "modified stereotypes" but the images that we have of upper class citizens are rather tediously created.
With regard to identifying a bust, I think it has a lot to do with the attention to detail and lifelikeness of busts of important citizens. For instance, once we have a bust of Seneca (for continuity's sake) that is identified... [more]

Are you building these sites for yourself? If so, I say it doesn't matter. If you are building for clients, they might think you unprofessional if someone happened to point it out. Say, for instance, one of their customers is a web designer and comes along and says, "Do you know your site isn't built on web standards?" All the client knows is this sounds important and you didn't do it. Also, if you are building for clients, someone else might have to come along later on and take over... [more]

Help me identify a book from limited information.
I am 25 years old now, so that would mean I was about 13 or 14 when I read the book. I also remember it being paperback and at least 200 pages because I was shocked that I actually stuck with it to the end. Also seems like the cover was a bluish purply color.

There are a couple other things that haven't been mentioned. (I'll second the "low disk space" possibility.)
Do you have a lot of stuff cluttering up your desktop? Moving items off the desktop can help.
Resize your dock to one of the optimal sizes. Press and hold Option while resizing the dock and pick an available size. Also turn off bouncing dock icons and magnification.

How much should I charge for computer repair.
I too have been wondering this. I tend to fix people's computers for free because it's usually a very simple, five-minute job. Someone once suggested a flat fee of $35 for up to one hour and then charge per hour after that.
I am curious about web design charges. I recently set up a full site for my church on a volunteer basis, but someone said that was at least a $1,000 donation. I don't know for sure. I have thought about setting out in web design for myself, but these... [more]

How do I learn to play guitar and sing at the same time?
When I was learning to play guitar, there were a few things that helped me. First, identify downbeats in the melody that you can use as contact points between your strumming and the melody. I'm not sure what kind of music you're playing, but I could probably offer some examples. Second, you could try singing with a CD recording and simply fingering the chord progressions without worrying about strumming. This requires you to get the harmonic rhythm in your fingers and that's one less point to... [more]

There was also an automator action listed on macosxhints.com that was a Finder plugin to toggle hidden files. I used to have hidden files visible with TinkerTool, but they create a lot of clutter and I don't need to see them very often. What I would like is the ability to turn on hidden files in just one directory, namely Sites in my case for dealing with .htaccess files and their ilk.
