Ask post: How is my house making me, my girlfriend, and my dogs sick?
I find something similar.

I get backaches and things at home.

When I go traveling on business, my aches and pains go away. But then, I'm getting more exercise, trolling through airports, walking along hotel corridors, lugging cases, etc. A lot of these things you might think at first glance would *cause* backache. But they don't. They alleviate it.

Maybe you're getting more exercise away from the house.

Ask post: BlackBerry 8330 vs MOTO Q9c vs Palm Treo 800w
I love my Q9c. Everyone else at work has Blackberries, and I'm the only one who can reliably open and edit customer word documents, excel sheets, etc.

Plus the Exchange sync is native - no middleware.

Plus I can do Gmail IMAP sync.

Plus I put my own programs which access the inbuilt Pocket Outlook store - so I can GTD my life away...!

Ask post: Problems with Access 2003 Wizard
Alternative:
1) Add a flag column to Table B;
2) Set all values of flag to FALSE ("No" in Access);
3) Construct a query that finds all Table B customers that ARE in Table A also;
4) Change the query to update Table B's flag column to TRUE;
5) Now go to Table B and filter for flag=FALSE;

Ask post: Rules Rage?
I think it was John Wesley who said that you should apply the rules as strictly as possible to yourself, and as loosely as possible to others.

I add to that, the belief that others probably a) do not know the rules; or b) do not understand the rules. They may also not care about the rules, in which case back to John Wesley.

So, I drive defensively. And relax.

(I probably break some rules too.)

Ask post: Lynden, WA to Burnaby, BC shortcut?
0 Ave on the US side has been empty (*empty*) of traffic each time I used it. But since it is a small road, Google maps might not accord it the possibility of traveling as fast as you actually can. I would prefer it (and the dogleg) over 1A in BC, which can be a bear.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm looking for something that as far as the user is concerned just looks like files on the disk (no UI - just Windows File Explorer).

It's just that when I open the file, I want it to then prompt me for the right media.

Are you sure you remember it right? It seems the Gammagard was in use before the kidney problems became known, from your description. There is, therefore, a possibility that the kidney problems were an adverse reaction to Gammagard.

Ask post: Who knows what darkness likes in the heart of my left eye?
My more astigmatic eye *appears* to adapt to dark much slower.

However, I think some of what we call night vision is clever "edge detection" circuits in the brain, which would rely a good deal on crisp focusing ability.

I think my edge detection circuits aren't getting to grips with the boundaries between dark and slightly less dark areas, and consequently, I see a continuum of shade, and therefore I can't really discriminate between... [more]

Ask post: How can create a simple program to modify Windows Address Book and Outlook Address Book entries?
I know you said "without exporting to CSV", but if you bring it into Excel through CSV, you just do a global replace of the affected area code, and then import it in again.

Otherwise VBA. Something like this untested macro. Do not use without saving your contacts into another contacts backup folder!

Instead of:

it should be:

Ask post: How can I help my (nearly) seven year old son "get" maths?
Our 6.5 year old is having the same difficulty. He likes simple math problems, but doesn't get place value too well.

But then, nor is he being taught it at this age. It seems too young to me.

A couple of things do make him think about it regularly, however:

1) Does he have enough "Lego coins" in Lego Star Wars (the video game) to buy the various character prizes? He doesn't get very well the fact that 200,000 is... [more]

Ask post: How to choose client side technologies for a new web project.
Flash just *hangs* my browsers on about 50% of the time on websites I visit that use it.

Some flash-oriented websites are fine - Youtube is never a problem, for example.

However, if I go to a website like www.telegraph.co.uk with an already running newsreel, plus ever changing flash ads, then my machine will (about half the time) just hang the browser (Firefox or IE7) for about two minutes solid. During this time, I can't even kill the browser or... [more]

Rent a car

Make a point of insisting on rental car access on all segments. Then you can nip out to the supermarket and buy stuff you would normally eat. GoogleMap the supermarkets / grocery stores before your trip, so you can know you can go buy fruit at 10pm if needed.

My company only lets us share one rental car between two or three of us, and this results in me ending up eating in the hotel more often than I would otherwise. When I get a car,... [more]

I see the trouble with einsehbarer now. It's a derivate of "einsehbar".

einsehbar = visible, understandable, obvious
einsehbarer = more visible, more understandable, more obvious

so, "a more obvious connection" between the animal study and health protection will suffice.

Ask post: Is the British Queen regnant/reigning King allowed into the City of London?
As pointed out, the City of London, while in London, is a very small geographical parcel within London.

It is kind of akin to downtown Manhattan, while being in New York, being a very small geographical parcel within New York.

However, the City of London also has its own political structures and specifically designated borders, etc.

Is London a city in the everyday sense of a large populous built-up area? Yes.... [more]

Ask post: When does the traffic get bad in CT?
I do this all the time. Anytime after 7:00 am towards NYC from exit 24 downwards is bad on regular weekdays. And don't listen to the traffic bulletins - when they say things are good, they still mean under 40 mph stop and go.

Mondays are double trouble. Honestly, for an 8:30 am flight on Monday morning, I would leave Fairfield (where I live) at 5:30 am. Preferably 5:00 am and have breakfast at the airport if I'm lucky.

It is secondary to any other applicable insurance or coverage available to you.

If you have insurance available to you - for instance, if your car insurance covers car rentals, then you must claim on that first. If there is a deductible, you can then go to MasterRental for that.

On the other hand, if you don't have insurance available to you, I believe you can go to MasterRental for the whole shebang.
