MeFi post: Anything you want, for $2
wendell: "I haven't been able to figure out anything for him to draw myself, but I'd like to remind potential customers that one character in his old webcomic is a very well-drawn angry llama."

That explains the amount of llamas that have been requested. I almost thought that it was related in some way to SimCity.

This kind of software requires a graphic table to be useful at all, right?

MeFi post: The Breakfast Manifesto
How can people drink near-boiling coffee? I always have to mix it with cold water or wait until it gets colder on its own.

MeFi post: !A Rambo No Le Gusta La Guerra!
Oh wow. That's great and awful, at the same time.

Very quick translation:

Rambo doesn't like war,
Rambo doesn't like war,
Rambo likes to dance,
Rambo likes to enjoy.

I really don't like war,
I really don't like war,
maybe it's because I like to dance
maybe it's because I like to enjoy
with a partner that is very warrior-like,... [more]

MeFi post: Capturing Fireworks
seanmpuckett: "#0 - Break every single god damn one of those rules, and every other "rule" associated with creating art, at least once. Learn that the "rules" are nothing so much as guidelines and, like every other element of creative pursuit, must be fundamentally understood -- not just blindly followed -- so you can decide when to break them, and why, to create something new."

Why everytime an art 'rule' is mentioned... [more]

MeFi post: There She Is, Step 3: Doki and Nabi
I love it. Way too cute.

I saw the first one when it was released and really liked it. The second one dissapointed me a little, it wasn't the 'same'. However, this one takes the concept and makes it even better.

MeFi post: Oh, let's see... A, C, phlegm...
I found it quite amusing when I saw it some weeks ago. I loved the "SILENCE, I KILL YOU" bit.

However, I didn't like the other routines.

MeFi post: What should I do with my life?
I'm in the weird position that I have a very part-time 'job' that I absolutely love (web developing) and, at the same time, I'm in college following a career path that I dislike (high school teacher of english).

On one hand, I can't work full time in what I love because here in Chile no one would hire me without a diploma certifying that I studied something related. On the other hand, I would prefer to kill myself before having to work as a high school teacher (having to... [more]

MeFi post: Help populate the fantasy world.
I played this a couple of days ago. It's quite fun. However, I think I'll need a new graphic card before getting the game as it had a noticeable lag when I applied textures to a creature.

This FPP should be erased because it's obviously an advertisement for Spore, Microsoft Windows and OSX. They say it's free, but is it really free when you have to buy a PC or a Mac?

I have a SNES in perfect working condition and if this trial was really free I should be able to play it there.

ZachsMind: "I'm not sure what the EA registration was about either. And early on it said something like allowing me one free pass. Is this crippleware?"

The game allows you to try it once before having to make an EA account.

MeFi post: Firefox 3: Hot or Not?
For the people who use Flock... don't "upgrade" to the beta. It's uglier and clunkier than 1.2. Wait for the final release.

MeFi post: On the Rain-Slick Precipace of Darkness
jedicus: "The combat is not exactly turn-based. It's more like the Final Fantasy 'active time battle' system.1"

I was going to comment that it seemed very similar to Chronotrigger's combat style. I hadn't realized that most square games share it.

moonbiter: "On the other hand, there is a half-baked virtual globe in this program too, and here Google Earth owns it for all kinds of reasons."

While I agree that in general Google Earth is much better, there are some things that made me really like Microsoft's attempt. For example, while I can't zoom in as close as Earth, it shows a lot more information in the map. It shows little towns that I had never heard about, and I actually live near... [more]

MeFi post: Are you ready? 3, 2, 1. GO
(Oh, but from looking at the video in the first link... I'll pass on this. Freakishly deformed overcute anime schoolgirls can go to hell.)

The background depends of the song. There's a 'Never gonna to give you up' one with the infamous video as background.

MeFi post: Wait, the pictures move?
I'm not sure how the video thing would work for non-paying members. The 100MB bandwidth limit is very... limiting, considering how heavy video files tend to be.
Adding a separate bandwidth limit for video files would feel arbitrary and would raise the question: Why can't I use that bandwidth for my photos if I'm not going to upload videos?
This would leave raising the bandwidth limit but that would reduce the difference between paid and free accounts... [more]

MeFi post: Suicide by robot.
The concept is very intriguing. I hadn't thought about using a machine for that purpose.

The next step would be a Rube Goldberg device with hundreds of steps before ending with the shooting of a gun. In fact, it could continue after that, using the body as the next step of the chain.
posted to MetaFilter by Memo at 3:35 PM on March 21, 2008
If he was competent enough to build a machine to shoot him in the head, why couldn't he just shoot himself in the head?
Because you can only shoot yourself once. The machine did it multiple times, I guess, decreasing the risk of surviving with brain damage.

MeFi post: I'm going to kill myself in 90 days
Fascinating.

However, she failed at the execution. A blogger account can be easily traced.
If someone wanted to do this correctly, nothing would be better than writing and then make it appear days after you killed yourself. Easily achievable by most blog software.

Of course, you miss the attention but hey, you wanted to kill youself and leave a public record, not be an attention whore.
