MeFi post: Espresso on Ice is Not Okay
I'm confused by this story. So first they don't put espresso over ice and then they did and when they did he liked it and appreciated the employee's work who did it and then put a tip in the tip jar with an insult on it and I just spent like a minute and a half reading about this inanity and typing out a question about it?

MeFi post: Whackity schmackity doo, kids!
All that stuff about the five environments is crap. You can't choose where you live, where you live chooses you. Everyone should stay exactly where they are. Rootlessness is the cause of like 40% of all of our problems as a society. People need to have a real connection to the place they live so that they can be invested in it and want to improve it. If you can just move away and try again then there is no incentive to make where you live a good place. You should live surrounded by your aunts... [more]

Oh and by "where their people are from" I suppose where your ancestors lived at the time of the Civil War would be a good measure. Those whose families have moved to America since then will just have to base where they move back to on where their earliest immigrant ancestor lived.

See my second comment Rev. Bomb.

People who move are putting themselves before their environment. "I'm not happy in Podunk, WI. I want to move to Chicago where the cool kids live!" Well suck it up buddy. Podunk, WI was there long before you came along and it will be there long after you are dead, so what makes you think that your needs should come before Podunk's?

He's got Patton Oswalt confused with Norman Osborn, who is indeed quite homophobic and gives terrible commencement speeches.

Also everyone who has argued against my plan for prohibiting moving more than 50 miles from their place of birth has been incredibly wrong in different ways, but I am too full of barbecue to shatter you with my brilliant refutations at this point.

Class of 2008, I was born the son of industrialist Ambrose Osborn in Hartford, Connecticut. Although I was a brilliant student in the fields of science, my alcoholic father lost control of his company, and turned on his family. Traumatized, I killed the family dog, considering it another mouth to feed.

In college, I studied chemistry and electrical engineering, and met my sweetheart Emily, got married, and eventually had a son, Harry. I co-founded a major firm with Dr.... [more]

Why do we make fun of people with mental illnesses? We wouldn't post the website of someone with a physical disability and say "Ha! Look at the pictures of her in her wheelchair! Lol!" but we do this regularly with people with mental illnesses. It is probably hard on this person to have these delusions and this paranoia. It is probably hard on his or her family. I know a lot of people enjoy the batshitinsane posts, but it just seems wrong to me.

I appreciate those reasons and I agree with some of them. However, if I were walking down the street with a friend and we passed a homeless person muttering to himself about diseases and conspiracies and whatnot and my friend started to repeat what that person was saying and make fun of him, then I would think that my friend was being a dick and I would tell him that I don't believe that making fun of those with mental illnesses is any funnier than making fun of a person with cancer. The only... [more]

I'm not saying that I think that we are going to hurt her feelings or the feelings of her friends. I am saying that I think that making fun of sick people is fucked up.

Generally, it seems nice to avoid the 'batshitinsane' tag for people that are, you know, insane.

It is kind of a fine line though I guess. I mean, you can't stop making fun of everyone because they may be crazy to a certain extent. I just think that when someone is obviously suffering from delusions that it is safe to assume significantly lower their quality of life and the lives of those around them, but don't hurt the public at large, that maybe it... It doesn't matter how many women you sleep with. It matters how many women you impregnate. Especially after you've given them a fake name. Yeah, try and get child support from Nathaniel Delano Cent baby.

After every generation the average amount of your genetic information that will transferred to your kids is 50%.

Wrong! My shit is like Attack of the Clones! I do a girl and nine months later an exact copy of me hops out and starts macking on ladies. My romantic life is like a zombie infestation, except where zombies reproduce primarily by biting, that is only part of it with me.

So if women choose manipulative men as potential mates . . . then don't we need to hold them accountable.

That's right ladies! When you sleep with douchebags it hurts America! Stop it now!

So . . . uh . . . now that you're not doing anything tonight . . . uh . . . do you want to . . . I don't know . . . hang out or something?

I know that improving the environment and using less resources takes sacrifices, but spilling milk a few times before I figure out how to pour from a new container? I don't know. Won't the whole last remnants of the human race living on floating barges powered by sewage and resorting to cannibalism happen after I'm dead? If so then I would rather just stick to my normal milk carton thank you very much.

For all you idealistic dreamers throwing out Thoreau quotes, I want you to consider this: "Thoreau also wore a neck-beard for many years, which he insisted many women found attractive." So, there's something for you to think about.

Take, for example, bestselling author Anna Quindlen, who at a commencement address a while back said this: "If you win the rat race, you're still a rat." It's cute, cute, but if you think about it, it's really nothing more than an all-purpose excuse not to succeed. My version of that quote goes, "If you win the rat race, you will never have trouble feeding your family."

For some reason, commencement speakers, almost all of whom have been selected... [more]

Huey Lewis's music is not only rockin' but also mathematically perfect. If you translate all the notes in all of his songs into numbers (using a code found by closely examining the cover of Sports) and add them all up then you will find the actual value of pi. It is exactly three strangely enough.

What's the deal with being affiliated with a Christian church that LOVES (non-Christian) Louis F?

There are certain obscure branches of Christianity that, based on some kind of misguided reliance upon the teachings of Jesus, actually do LOVE people despite the fact that they may be non-Christian. I wouldn't worry about them too much though, they are vastly outnumbered in this country.

Yeah I am wishing I had just stayed out of this. The thing is, I am having a kid in about two months and I live in South Carolina, so this stuff worries me a lot. I plan to take her to church on Sundays, but I want her to learn about the real world in school during the week, and not be "taught" evolution the same way I was in South Carolina public schools.
