YT comment: Sounds like Ween. Ha ha.
Yeah, Norton Juster (Hampshire College represent!) wasn't a fan of the movie at all JUSTER: It was done as a full-length animated feature film by MGM. With live scenes. Live beginning and end. And when you go through the tollbooth is when it turned into animation. It was a film I never liked. I don't think they did a good job on it. It's been around for a long time. It was well reviewed, which also made me angry. And for some reason, I don't know why, they never put it... [more]

The Full Movie link is for the traditional "A Christmas Carol." Am I missing something?
No I think I may have been confused. A search for Levitow and Christmas Carol got me to that video which, oddly, Levitow also worked on, though only as a guest artist and not as a director.

Mefi Suggestion Box
- a really robust search/browse toolset that puts all other web searches to shame
- everyone gets five images per year to use as they see fit
- user-customizeable CSS
- follow-up filter feature in AskMe
- a way to easily link to previous discussions on the exact same topic in MeTa [not for deletion purposes but just "hey this is what the discussion looked like last time we talked about this, fyi]
- a way to zap people with electricity in MetaTalk

If I could only chuck them into a saved draft along with some notes, I could put the post together piecemeal when I've got a few minutes.
You might consider using gmail for this, I sometimes make drafts of whateverthehell there. Pretty simple. I don't mean to be all "here's a workaround for something we're not likely to build" but it's a decent option.
I would dearly like the ability to edit my comment... [more]

I too, really do find this place tending toward a den of sexual prudery
See I really feel that there's prudery which is "I like things pretty vanilla and if you don't you're some sort of deviant/perv/bad person" but then there's the same sort of intolerance which is "I like things kinky and if you don't you're just repressed/prudish/uptight" Neither one is really very useful.
I understand that there is sort of a reaction... [more]

I'm not asking for a total ban on snark (I'm mean myself, sometimes, especially in response to the same), but responding to somebody's extensive comment or FPP with "lol here's a lazy one-liner in which I try to make you look bad" is lame, and it's eventually going to kill the site. People won't bother to work on creating quality FPPs and comments if this is their reward.
I hate it too. So, what I do is never engage in it (there are a few MeTa... [more]

How, exactly, do I get treatment for depression?
This will vary a little bit depending on whether you have insurance and what you have. My insurance, for example, does not make me get a referral to see a psych. doctor. I can just go for a certain amount of visits and it will be covered. Figure this out in advnace because nothing makes you more anxious like unforseen medical bills if you're me.

step 2: either go to psych doctor [as yourself: do... [more]

India's first virtual porn star.
Not to be all "your favorite porn sucks" but is this post anything but a rehash of the Yahoo News/Hindustani Times article?
For example, the forums have stuff that I wouldn't think I'd see in most porn site forums, the SWEAT STAINED BHABHIS thread for example. Or possibly the controversy it has (maybe) started in India. Or the fact that its readership is 85% Indian and the comic itself is available in desi.
Otherwise it just seems like... [more]

Help me find another great fall book
The October Country is what I would read as well as Little Big which covers an awful lot of time but just feels like Autumn. If you're looking for a good survey of titles you might also want to check the Autumn tag on Library Thing. It's a little scattershot (and full of kid books) but can maybe spark some ideas.

What's the best website to book a flight online?
I travel maybe 20 times per year for business stuff and using kayak.com to find tickets -- slightly lamer now that American Airlines isn't included -- and orbitz to actually book them [SMS updates about delays and etc. Kayak.com's sliders allow you to adjust the flight lists in real time when you change stuff like "I don't want to leave home before 10 am" or "what are my options if I choose to look at other nearby airports?" and sort the list by things like total trip length. Is it self posting if my wife is involved.
blue_beetle is pretty spot on. As much as I love anarchy I wouldn't try to invoke it with a borderline self-link. I think people have given you some good dieas at how else to get the word out but a direct post to MeFi is probably not the right way. You can always go put it in your profile and we can go peek at it.

Could we maybe get an overall policy clarification on this? Thanks.
Generally speaking, the zero tolerance approach to self-linkery is because really almost all the time when it happens it's people being fuckers and we're okay with the very rare "oh, this wasn't what we thought it was, okay we'll unban you..." situation like this is.
I don't know anything about Blogcritics so I can't speak to that case, but if you're worried... [more]

It's can be very frustrating to try to figure out what's permitted
I sympathize, and at the same time we're loathe to make specific rules about this because we'd be afraid it would keep out more content than it would allow because people were over-vigilant. The general rule is: if you're not sure, ask one of the mods or send it to the contact form.

Tinnitus After Antibiotics
Tinnitus can make all sorts of sounds and swooshing is not out of the question but you may have inner ear inflammation which is different from congestion but could also be responsible. My anecdotal evidence about tinnitus is a few things.
- anxiety about tinnitus is almost worse than the tinnitus itself and can exacerbate the sensations
- noise masking [white noise stuff] is very helpful for stuff like sleeping
- it is most likely that even if you... [more]
