I've got some Shit To Do in a house that is not mine and I like unwinding in the evening playing some simple video games on the Apple TV. I've been enjoying Alto's Adventure and Crossy Road. They are beautiful to look at and listen to, not that challenging to learn, have simple and brief turns where I can trade off with my partner, and don't use too much of my brain. I also liked Symmetrica and Osmos (for the iPad) for the same reason. I've liked What else would I like?
I found this thing (front, back) on an ocean-facing beach in Southern MA, sort of near a freshwater pond and a little woods area. It is about 3" long, maybe a shade more. I am not sure what it is. Internet randos (Instagram, Twitter) don't seem to know and their ideas aren't even coalescing around a single (coral, fossil, head bone, tail bone....) idea. Do you know?
Suggest expense apps or spend trackers for my iPhone that do not require having a budget? I do a good job at tracking my expenses using Dropbox and a Numbers document but I'd like to do more stuff more easily from my phone, maybe get some reports. I'd like to get more of a handle on where my money is going and, if possible, sort out expenses by trip. I've tried a lot of apps and I'm coming up short. Maybe there is one you like? Specifics follow.
On Tuesday I have been asked to speak for 45 minutes about Google Classroom to some teachers from the vocational high school who are not very technical with computers (though they are in other ways). I have the weekend to put something together that is not too granular but covers the basics. I have a login for our local instance and would like to learn the basics in an efficient way. Are there resources other than the basic ones on Google that would be useful? Maybe some Ed Tech resources I might not know about? Thanks for pointers, personal experiences also welcome.
I have a cassette deck, a stereo receiver, Audacity, and a late 2012 iMac. I am gearing up for a winter project where I record some cassette tapes, in stereo. I need help completing the circuit.
I bought this couch a month or two ago and it just arrived today. I love it! But! It makes a crinkling noise when I sit on it that's not tolerable, sort of like you're sitting on an empty potato chip bag. Will this stop?
I just got back from a long vacation which was mostly great. I stayed with friends in a few places and at AirBnBs or hotels in a few other places. A lot of morning conversations over coffee included some aspect of "How did you sleep?" and I'm not sure how to politely answer that question.
You guys helped me a lot when I went to teach my in-person undergrad class at a local college. Now I am teaching a graduate level class which is online and asynchronous (a six week "intensive" three credit class about tools for library advocacy). If you had one piece of advice for someone who was new to teaching grad school online to make the most out of it, what would it be?
I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for this, but I am curious about it in any case. I took a few photos for my "story" in Snapchat when I was working on the yard yesterday including one later where I pointed to my cut up forearms from working with all the brush. When I spoke with my SO today, he'd seen the story, but not that specific photo. We compared notes sitting right next to each other: when I look at my story on Snapchat, I see the image. When he looks at my story, it skips right over it. When I look at who has seen my snaps, all the ones around it have a few views and that one has zero. What happened?
I have a project with a modest ($1K) one-time fundraising goal and a long time (six months) to meet that goal. I'd like to find a website/service for people to contribute as easily as possible in a variety of methods and I'd love people's experiences of simple ways to do this.
(asking for a friend) I'm writing a novel - a thriller - set principally in the Antarctic in WWII which takes the idea of the development of a biological weapon as its premise. What I need is an insight into a suitably nasty bacteria or virus that could have been developed into a weaponisable form; something that the British might have been working on towards the end of WWI; and something that could have been resurrected again in 1943 as a back-stop to deal with two possible scenarios.
I have hit the point where I need reading glasses. I have one pair I like a lot. I want to buy a bunch more similar pairs from Zenni and I'm not totally sure how to make sense of conflicting information. Could you give me advice?
Looking for guided meditation apps for my iPhone or downloadable MP3s. I've been doing meditation in the morning and it helps me focus my day. Usually something like 5-20 minutes, general themes like calmness, gratitude, body scan, the usual. I've read the other questions, tried a few that have been okay, and have a few picky requests...
I am teaching a 14 week basic HTML/CSS class for community college students starting in a few weeks. It's my first time teaching younger adults and my first time teaching this class and I would love some advice and links to specific resources.
So I agreed to help with a "Library Passport" project which is going to be GREAT except I'm in a bit over my head, could use template help or item sourcing.
I'm doing some presentations for parents of kids K-12 grades about the nebulous topic of internet safety and could use some advice/stories/resources from real-world parents to help me make sure this is relevant and useful.
I maintain a small Twitter feed where I do a "This day in history as illustrated with cool books from Open Library" thing. I often use Wikipedia's day thing (today's example) and it's often all about the history of men, conquest, nation states/building and a bunch of other things that aren't always relevant to my interests. I need more options.
I have a little project that I'd like to make a little website for. Does not have to be fancy. This could be a WordPress module, a standalone website, or something else. Here's what I need: a checklist where multiple people can maintain, over time, their own version of a single list of items todo/completed. I have looked but I'm not finding what I want.
I am looking for a good year-at-a-glance paper wall calendar/planner for next year. I have found a completely boring version and I am wondering if I can do better. I am bad at online shopping and also I hate it. Help?
Asking for a friend: Are car rental desks at Newark Airport (specifically National, in P3) in heated areas or are they out in the parking garage? Flying in later in the weekend so probably don't need snowpocalypse warnings but could someone more familiar with the airport help out? Thank you.
Getting mom an iPad. She says she wants a camera connector (she has a Canon EOS 40D) and "Photoshop" for it. She uses Photoshop on her iMac. I see Photoshop Express and Photoshop Tools. Should I get both/neither/something else? Are there good ipad-based tutorials for how to use Photoshop or similar tools for the ipad? Any other suggestions?
Help me choose from among a few transportation/lodging options for a St. Louis-Columbia-Knoxville trip.
Can you help me find a specific NYT Magazine article with an interview with a Bush administration official, or help me figure out where this article appeared that was not the NYTimes?

I'm trying to start 2010 with a decent software strategy in place for tracking travel, projects, invoices, and expenses. 2009's technique was an Excel spreadsheet so there's lots of room for improvement. My picky/nerdy requirements inside.
Do I care, in the slightest, that the photo paper I ordered is not what I received and seems to be older and thinner?

Examples of good web/election widgets to show to librarians this upcoming week? I'll be speaking at a conference this week talking about, among other things, Web 2.0 stuff. I'm looking for some good topical examples to briefly highlight.
I'd like to add captions to my YouTube videos and preferably not do it by hand. YouTube recommends this software but I have a Mac. Is there something free or cheap I can use? Any other tips? Thanks.
Why does my cell phone send me a text message whenever I retrieve my voice mail?
I am in Los Angeles (Silver Lake area) and need to get to Anaheim (Disneyland/Convention Ctr. area) for this library conference this afternoonish. Is the best way to do this to go back to the airport and grab a shuttle, or is there something simpler?
I don't like the WordPress 2.5 look and feel. I am not interested in switching CMSes. What are my options for basic postings to my blog with minimal interaction with the WordPress interface?
I would like a good t-shirt to wear at ROFLcon. However, it must be DIY. Suggestions?
What is a workshop? I have been giving public speeches at conferences and the like for years, but occasionally I am asked to give a workshop and I'm not sure what one is or how to do one under the specific circumstances that I am often in.
Help me properly remember this study or who wrote about it. It was about some animal that, in experiments, preferred the anticipation centers of their brain -- seeking circuits? -- stimulated over the pleasure centers. I read it in some poppish science book in the last few years and now I'm trying to more accurately recall it so I can use it in a talk, if I'm rembering it correctly.
I would like to stay someplace nice and interesting in Halifax, NS for three days in September. Help me find it?
I flew with JetBlue last month. Some small items were missing from my luggage when I arrived at my destination. I am trying to figure out how far I want to go with this to try to 1) get reimbursed for lost/stolen items and 2) get them to make their legal documents reflect their actual policies. I'd like some advice from people who have dealt with airlines and their luggage policies to help me strategize.
Starting in a few weeks I will be doing a lot of travelling with my laptop. Help me choose a wifi provider for airports and possibly other locations.
