I'm SO glad you mentioned the length. I rearranged this song and my producer and I added that long instrumental bridge (for which I have very grand plans -- a little choral breakdown, an awesome buildo-guitar line, but still). When I ripped the demo to my hard drive, my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw the song length. Worrisome. I actually went through my music library and picked out songs that were approximately the same length, and yes -- they go through more landscapes. How to... I really like that repeating phrase. It reminds me a little bit of the song "Modern Girl" by Sleater-Kinney. What other instruments do you have? A clear, straight, slightly minor melody above the repeating line would make a beautiful bridge. posted to MeFi Music by pazazygeekat 5:36 PM on October 13, 2009
You guys? Are the best. Your feedback is incredibly helpful. I'm going to open up the raw file again, maybe re-record the main guitar part (which is far too bassy and gets clouded by the auxillary guitar part, I now see, or hear, as the case may be, hur hur hur), and will try some new tricks I've read about with compression, instead of reverb -- which I don't like, but have been using because the raw vox just sound muddy and icky.
Yay for learning to record! Thanks so... [more] posted to MeFi Music by pazazygeekat 5:11 PM on March 25, 2008
Not pedantic at all. These lyrics are smart, beautiful and intriguing. I love songs like this. It's brilliant! Thank you for posting it.
Although I will go out on a limb and say you SHOULD re-record it sober so we can understand it better. I'd have missed a lot if you hadn't posted the lyrics. It sounds great, though, it's just a little hard to understand ya.
I'm looking forward to hearing the bigger story. posted to MeFi Music by pazazygeekat 10:26 PM on September 3, 2007
Thanks so much for the awesome feedback! I am finally writing again after about four years of total blocked-ness, so it's really encouraging.
I have a few friends who have volunteered to work on it with me, I'm hoping to get my very talented guitarist friend to write a suitable guitar melody and help me distinguish the chorus more from the verse.
I am thinking kit drums, after the second chorus. We'll see what happens!... [more] posted to MeFi Music by pazazygeekat 8:07 AM on August 31, 2007
Wow - thank you both so much for the excellent feedback! Dios - that's a great point. I was thinking of adding some piano in to help with that, but was concerned that it might be overkill, I'm really glad to hear your thoughts on that, I think I will try it. posted to MeFi Music by pazazygeekat 12:47 PM on March 30, 2007
Eep, yes, Abilene. You can clearly tell I've never set foot in Texas. Now that's going to drive me crazy!
Thanks so much for the nice feedback, snsranch -- I really, really appreciate it! posted to MeFi Music by pazazygeekat 9:30 PM on March 24, 2007
sleepy pete, thanks so much. That is an incredibly helpful tip. I used a mic, pointed directly at the, um, giant hole in my guitar (Heh. There MUST be a technical term for that), with basically just enough room for my hand between the guitar and the mic. I will definitely try your method and see if it gets me better results. posted to MeFi Music by pazazygeekat 8:42 PM on March 27, 2007
