The fact that (something like) this is the default view on Slashdot I think explains why Slashdot isn't much good for discussions between commenters. While there's something to be said for a pluralism of ways of interacting with the site, I'm sympathetic to the division of labor arguments here (let Slashdot do this), because the way members read the site feeds back into the way they contribute to the site, which creates economies -- it's better if most users read the site in a way that promotes... Anarchy is Quashed
It's not banworthy. Probably a failure of judgment but it doesn't seem so terrible to me. I think it wanted to be like that post with all the youtube music videos.

Double double?
Maybe it's a really obnoxious way of protesting that the answers to the first question mostly didn't talk about books. Seems like a pretty assy bit of performance art, though.

Err, actually, TPS's charitable reading is not implausible. Please forget that I'm a jerk.

Projects RSS: why no creator?
I subscribe to the Projects RSS feed; it's great. But almost every time I read an update, I immediately wonder, Who wrote that? And, bizarrely, there's no convenient way to find out.
Shouldn't the RSS file for Projects include who is the author of each item?

Offensive noise.
Maybe so, but for better or for worse these things happen all the time in AskMe.
Honor killings? We must be having a bad month.

For the rest of us poor trusting dupes who believed your insane swipe at R.L. Stine. I was all like wtf R.L. I mean I never read one of your books but based on the contents of the old Scholastic book-order catalogs from grade-school you were a big fucking kahuna though I still don't understand what all the trash stuffed into those Scholastic catalogs was about or even what the point of a book-order was in the first place I mean I lived in New York, you can buy books in New York;... Make flags work like favorites please.
I've accidentally clicked there instead of MeTa about 19 times now since the addition of that link, and those little flash bars were starting to make me rage a little.

Univac: a callout
When I read the title of this thread I was hoping it was an early Asimov story.

The death of Protoman?
The Protomen, who are from the flyover, are nearing the end of their first (and probably last) East Coast tour. Here are the dates. They played Boston (well, Somerville) tonight, and it was really glorious. The live show is epic in the best sense, and got a crowd of Nintendo-nerds off their feet for more than an hour. If you were at all piqued by the original post, you should try to see them.
In addition, they've streamlined their merchandising operation since the... [more]

If we "fixed" this we'd eliminate the occasional cool performance-art-type post that works its magic partly by repeating the same link. Seriously, I think it has expressive possibilities which outweigh the (rare) inconveniences of either hovering or accidentally revisiting a link.

Any way this functionality could come over to MeTa, too?
(for following meetup events, since I invariably see the posting the day after the meetup)

How about a ban up in this bitch?
If it really is Her we should keep her around and pretend nothing's happening, but whenever she posts immediately delete it, and wait for her to flameout from the resulting persecution complex. Just a suggestion.
