MeTa post: Burning the black book
I got one a few years back. I can't remember who from. It had a page where someone had cut shapes out of the paper and then covered it in platic and stuck a leaf inside. I wrote a short little story and drew a little inky design on my page. I gave it to an artsy friend who made it a collage of sorts, and I lost track of it after that. Then I think you weighed in a while back to see where they were, and I asked my friend, and she found it in a box left from a move, and gave it to a fellow... [more]

MeTa post: Civilized discussion?
I'm not defending papakwanz. I think he's gone about this in a pretty arrogant and block headed way.

I think there's a kernel of truth hidden in what he's saying. At least, I can see one there. I don't know if he meant it.

An age of consent will always be an arbitrary measure of maturity. Some people under 18 are responsible enough to have sex with others, and some people over 18 still lack that maturity. The law picks that age because it... [more]

I love this idea. Short stories with a limit, photos with a limit, poems with a limit. This is a great idea. If it has limits.

I don't see it as people justifying murder. There were people (myself included) who don't see legal punishment as an automatic response to a crime. No one was saying he should get away with it, they were saying that they believe the best choice at this point in time would not be prison. Not because he deserves to be free and other murderers don't, but because him being imprisoned wouldn't serve any purpose, whereas him being free could lead to a life being salvaged.... [more]

Is a question chatfilter if it doesn't have a single 'best answer'? Occhiblu's question, and my follow up on it, are about behaviours that differ between people and between cultures, so the answer will be made up of a range of responses that indicate how widespread, noticable, understood or explanable the behaviour is. A single answer cannot answer the question.

In Occhiblu's thread she mentioned that some female behaviours went unnoticed by men. My question was an... [more]

Wow. I didn't realise the pregnancy thing had stirred up such a hornet's nest.

Well, I asked the question because I had a problem to be solved. I wanted to know what it was like to be pregnant. The problem was solved- I now have a good idea of what it is like to be pregnant. I asked because I'm fascinated by all the various experiences and events that happen in a life, and there are some that I (young, male) simply cannot know first hand at this point (or ever, with... The threads that are entertaining are not always useful.

Useful in what way, DevilsAdvctate? Asking about profound life experiences or something isn't useful in the same way as a technical question about a broken keyboard, but it still is useful. It's useful because you can take strength or support or encouragement from other people's stories, and you can get a better insight into the lovely little things in life. I'd say the questions...
