A History of Techno
What's up with those Aphex Twin videos that are just clips of shit blowing up (see link "c" and linked from youtube page)? Are those "official" in any way or just a weird youtube trend? Some of those songs are way older than the clip material, like Alberto Balsalm.

WHAT NO TERRY RILEY??? C'mON!
Yeah, I think it's clear that this is a flawed list with a very narrow "mid-late 90's" perspective.

Anybody remember those weird "oily" stickers that you could push on and see color swirls? I remember people calling them "oilies" or "pressies." I scanned through the page kind of quickly and didn't see any mention of it, but I wasn't sure what to look for. It's one of those things I remember from childhood and am still not sure if it was real.

Nostalg-afire Explosion
I used to think Mitzi Mozzerela was pretty hot when I was 8 until a friend dared me to run up to the stage and look up her dress....
DON'T LOOK UP HER DRESS!
This day I'm still not sure what all that stuff is for.

Wrath of the Grapevine: The Roots of John Fahey
I was walked into a bike shop this afternoon listening to John Fahey on my headphones - when I took my headphones off, I continued to hear John Fahey, playing in the shop! This post continues the coincidences nicely. Good post, thanks!

The Apostrophe Engine
The first line I clicked on, "you are a hockey stick broken over the spine of a 19th century hunchback you figured had no business playing street hockey in the first place" yielded mostly uninteresting results, until I got to the last line:
"you are afraid someone will fall on you"
And guess what: I am.

For all the Maybes and the Don't-Knows
This movie looks totally awesome and hilarious and way better than that marionette movie. I am very excited to see it and am happy to have been introduced to it and know that it's now out on DVD. thanks!

R Comics Gud?
Anyone know what panel they're referring to?
I'm pretty sure they mean this. It's the last panel of X-Men 132. X-Men 133 is basically Wolverine spending an entire issue mutilating the entire Hellfire Club.
Ah yes... I once re-drew this panel and had it printed on a custom print pot-holder for my mom for mothers day. Because that's the kind of 10 year old I was/still am.

For Arthur
As brownpau said, many of these have been Nasa Image of the Day pictures. There, they're in a slightly less manipulated form - I have a softer (colorwise) version of this one as my desktop.
Original image on NASA IOTD
The earth (in the original, unmanipulated one) in the background is just insane to me - it looks like snow, snow that is right next to you, at your feet.... [more]

Also, it's worth mentioning here (if unfamiliar with WFMU, though the info is sure to be found in the FPP links) that the reason they do these stunts every year is because WFMU is nearly 100% listener supported (there have been a few grants, I think) - no underwriting, no sponsorship, no corporate anything. They make all the money that keeps them operational (and totally awesome) through these pledge drives (for only these 2 weeks each year) and the record fair. And the DJ's are all... [more]

The only thing that could make the Best Show better is a timestamped index of bits. That, and the end of Philly Boy Roy

The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nation's Millennium General Assembly
As a semi-aside, it's interesting this is on Fred Weaver's site. I saw him perform years ago at Brownie's in NYC (around 2000), and used a song of his in a short film. Haven't kept up with his music, but I dug what he'd done at the time. In fact, I'd completely forgotten about him, so this is not only an interesting post, but a nice reminder to check him out again! Thanks!

but still not as silly as the marvel team-up that i *think* was also part of assistant editor's month, where aunt may and franklin richards saved the day with twinkie-like snack cakes
Weren't those one page ads, like, for twinkies? Or was ther an actual story that revolved around this as well.

With the Diana Deutsch one I started off by hearing only "no wang no wang" like tehloki, but very quickly it became the creepier (for me) exclamation: "No, Graham!"

has anyone ever gotten away with a crime or walked free on any of these shows? answer: never
As with what natabat said, it sometimes seems like the whole point of Law and Order is to show you that in our legal system, a lot of bad folks DO get away with it.

... I guess that's why they have that wonderfully bizarre / dissonant early Cronenberg/Howard Shore type score permeating throughout (on the flagship, regular ol' "Law and Order," not so much in the spinoffs), creating an apocalyptic sense of dread.

I don't think I could have survived a week not knowing what was behind a locked room in my house growing up. I used to *fantasize* about finding the blueprints of my house and seeing that there was unallocated space hiding a secret room. How could you go a whole lifetime!? Three lifetimes!!?
