What Is YOUR Best Photography Tip, Secret, Trick, Lesson, Technique, or Hack?
When you are taking a full-length shot of someone who is standing, hold the camera so that the lens is around the same height as their mid-section.
If you take it at "head-height" perspective makes the subject's feet and legs tiny :-)
Remember, youre taking something that is 3 dimensional and changing it to 2 dimensions.

Letters to the Editor Protocol?
I have a friend who used to be the editor of a small daily. Concerning these types of letters to the editor, he used to say "When an idiot spouts off like this, the best way to let as many people know that he is an idiot , is to let them read the unedited rantings"
I do believe, however, that they had a policy (which was printed on the page everyday) that they would only accept submissions that were accompanied by the authors name, which was also printed along... [more]

Can I get ifame links openin a new window?
Well, Im astounded that this seems to be an impossible thing to do, so lets look at it differently. Is there some other way I can display at the bottom of my page, a random (from a finite list) page, and make it or its link open in a new window? Without an Iframe?
Ancillary: Is there a way to automatically take screenshots of a list of webpages? If i could automatically take a screenshot of the pages, i could just link the screenshot. But it is not practical to do... [more]

There's a "Ripley's Believe it or not" museum on the boardwalk. And Ceasar's just renovated the Mall at Pier 1. Its very expensive but there are new restaurants and unique shops in it.
P.S. to highonfire: Jim's Steaks on South Street for the win. :-) End of answer hijack.

Two Cats are Better than One?
2 cats are less destructive than one. Instead of playing with your things, they play with each other.
2 cats are also cleaner, grooming wise. They help each other.
I came into the marriage with one female cat, my husband came in with one male cat. We both agree that the 2 are better than one.

Keeping it Clean Here, Boss!
Nthing the Dyson. Specifically the DC17 Animal.
We were replacing other uprights every 8-9 months, mainly because my long hair was killing them. We bought one 2 years ago and haven't had one problem. It is pricey, though.
In fact, it comes with a, as the saleslady termed it, a "throw it down the stairs and its covered" 5-year warranty on everything. I had gotten something lodged (a screwdriver, dont ask) in the hose and called Dyson to see if... [more]

Need a cheap way to send a single pencil to someone.
I get one-off personalized pens and pencils mailed to me by prospective advertising specialty imprinters because I once ordered 1000 customized pens and ended up on a mailing list.
They always arrive in a regular sized paper envelope and are either taped or sticky-snotted (i dont know what the stuff is called) to a postcard.
That should work fine.
Also I just measured on my postal scale and one pencil, 2 indexcards and... [more]

Thorn, I'm going home - Sol
There was an episode of ST: TNG that dealt with a society whose people commit suicide on their 60th birthday to preserve dignity and/or control population and/or give the next generation a chance for greatness.
The catch is that the planet's greatest scientist, and only hope to prevent the planets sun from going nova, turns 60 before he has a chance to successfully test his world-saving experiments...
Bonus: Fantastic acting by David Ogden Stiers as said scientist.

Just so we're all clear, i dont want to keep the desktop, i want to eliminate the desktop :-) Using it to drive the externals is only a back-back-back-up plan.
When Im in my office, i want to expand my viewing area as much as possible, and when I leave the office, i want to take the laptop (and all my info) with me.
But when Im in the office I need a vertical monitor.

You are right. Kinda. I just got off the phone with HP.
Last week, when ordering my new laptop (dv9000z series) they told me that it wouldn't have a VGA port, and I would need the docking station to achieve 2 monitors (1 Native + 1 external)
The new sales rep (just now) told me that the new laptop will have a VGA port and that the docking station will connect to that.
So I didn't need... [more]

Hooked up my iPod with a cassette adapter, but it keeps rewinding or ejecting. Help!
If your car is a 90's or early 00 GM model, Radio Shack sells a cassette adapter that works. Unfortunately, Radio Shack knows it solves the problem because they charge about $30 for the adapter (I cant see any difference in it to the other cassette adapters I have).
I had the same thing happen in a 94 Eldorado, 2000 Bravada, my friends 9? Impala and and another friends 97 Sunfire (Cadillac, Olds, Chevy & Pontiac)
Good Luck!

Can I save my job?
"...they are saying they would like to let me go in order to..."
You are persona non grata there anymore.
The only reason they would let you know that is they hope you will just quit, saving them increased unemployment premiums, and they can hire whoever they want. And I think they already have someone in mind.
Start looking for something new, dont quit unless you have something to go to, let them fire you.
And good luck!

Call your homeowners insurance co. Tell them the situation. They aren't going to be too happy to have to pay for the bill that arises from burst pipes over a holiday weekend. And they have nice lawyers on staff/call for just these kinds of things.

When something bad happens to Doctor Who, why doesn't he just go back in time and fix it?
My perspective comes from 1980 reruns of Pertwee/Baker/Davidson on US PBS.
I always thought that the problem with the navigation of the Doctor's TARDIS was that if he picked a picked a point in space, he couldn't pick a time. And conversely if he picked a time, he couldn't pick a point in space.
So if he wanted to go back in time to save someone, he could end up on the other side of the galaxy. Or if he picked a specific place to save someone,... [more]

It's easy to forget that you're even near Philly and is easily accessible to everything in Montgomery county. If you want to go into the city, the R5 train has a station in Ambler.
Full disclosure: I lived there for 2 years in the early 90s.
