MeFi post: Jimmy Gone M.I.A.
Here's another truly awesome remix of "Paper Planes" featuring Bun B and Rich Boy. I actually prefer it to the original

MeFi post: Test Blindness Color
This is interesting, but I'm not sure I buy it entirely. I saw both images without much of a problem, but I have no reason to believe I have any degree of colorblindness.

MeFi post: Not Just for Ice Cream
I tried the peach and Fuji apple flavors, because they sounded like the best things ever. Turned out they kind of sucked, though.

However, the mouthwashes are nice and quite refreshing.

MeFi post: Welcome to North Carolina
What a surreal event that was. I was walking through the Pit on my way to physics when it happened. Even before he gunned his engine, I noticed the SUV and was wondering what the hell the dude was doing driving around Lenoir (cafeteria)...just figured he was a maintenance guy or something.

It was scary as shit, but luckily, the nine people only had minor injuries, and no one had to stay in the hospital or anything. Which is surprising, considering how fast he was... [more]

Slatternus: are you talking about Bowles (president of UNC system), Moeser (chancellor of UNC-CH), or George W.?

This is the greatest thing I've seen in a while.

MeFi post: "And therefore I forbid my tears"
This is terrific. I like this Hamlet, for the hairstyle and the lazy eye. Seems so right, somehow.

Great link.

MeFi post: Human camera
There's a chapter on Stephen Wiltshire in Oliver Sacks' book An Anthropologist on Mars--it includes several pages of unbelievable drawings he made as early as age ten.

According to Sacks, his almost-photographic memory was always there, but his drawings did improve significantly after he had some art training as a young teenager.

Nice link, thank you.

MeFi post: It's all a numbers game...
Everything can be understood by a typical undergraduate college student.

Thank you...I am far from a mathematician, but I still love this kind of thing. Nice link.

MeFi post: fantastic folk monsters of Japan
This is an AWESOME post!

I like the sagari:

A grisly horse's head that dangles in the branches of a nettle tree...its baleful whinnies are terrifying....

MeFi post: Dave Chappelle Comes Clean On 'Oprah'
And here I though Oprah was one of the "Dark Crusaders" trying to bring Chappelle down...

MeFi post: mensa-test pt2
This one seems a lot easier than the first one (at least from a mainstream American perspective).

MeFi post: Graph Paper PDF Generator
Thank you. I really need this for my physics lab. It never occurred to me to look for some online, oddly enough.

MeFi post: Shhhhh...type quitely...
Great link! Although I find it hard to believe that there are more slang words in English for inebriation than anything else...that can't be right, can it?

MeFi post: Lightspeed Travel Simulation
Sorry if this is a dumb question, surlycat, but what are "blue shift" and "red shift"? I tried googling, but I got frustrated after about a million results for some video game.

Do "blue shift" and "red shift" refer to literal color changes? If so--why does that happen?

MeFi post: bugs minus the lute music
In the mid-90s, my entire town (in NE North Carolina) was infested with what we were told were Asian ladybugs, which apparently seek out houses and other buildings to hibernate in. It was a plague of Biblical proportions...you couldn't take a step without feeling a crunch underfoot, and when you put your head on your pillow at night, ladybugs would run out of it. I woke up a few times with a ladybug in my ear, and who knows how many I swallowed while asleep.

Ladybugs... [more]

Okay, the ladybug visitation was nightmarish. But LOCUSTS? That is so, so much worse. I experience fear and trembling in the presence of even one locust.

Cicadas are irritating, but they leave awesome shells on trees when they moult. I actually collected them when I was a kid.

Also: scarabic, why do you say "foreign" and "native" are meaningless? I'm genuinely curious--I don't know anything about ecology.

MeFi post: That's a lot of science...
There are some good things here for us laypeople...I especially liked "Why Don't Giraffes Have Dropsy?".

The format of the list kind of makes my eyes bleed, though.

MeFi post: Nobel Prize Games
Play the blood typing game--if you don't kill anybody, there's a kick-ass party at the end!

Seriously? I don't think I would have found games like this fun as a kid; I would have rather just learned whatever it was I was supposed to be learning. They're kind of fun now, though.

MeFi post: Foreigners Around the World
I don't think there's anything particularly funny about most of these. I guess the point was to present the stereotypes in the most outrageous, over-the-top possible way, to make them look absurd or something, but I don't think it worked.

That being said, I did laugh at the part about the English often having large collections of useless things like lamp finials or toad eggs.
