What happens when alcoholics dream they're drunk?
They are vivid, though, aren't they? I'm sober 14 months now and they can freak me out - mostly as I'm trying to figure our how on earth I can explain to my loved ones that I've relapsed.
My drinking dreams tend to take the following shape: I'm in a cafe or some place I don't really associate with drinking and all of a sudden I'm aware that I'm getting drunk off the coffee. Then the shame and panic hits and I know I have to stop drinking coffee but I can't.... [more]

Green-card marriage: risk vs. reward.
Right, here's what your friend can expect:
If it looks to be a fast relationship, your friend and his fiancee will be expected to submit evidence of their love, as it were. E-mails, love letters, ticket stubs to events, everything like that. The key is to start collecting things early. Now, if possible. Give at least 6 months preparation for this if you can, otherwise the process will be delayed.
If this isn't possible, the two will have to be... [more]

Darling -the're playing our playlist!
Maybe the inverse is true: if I see Chick-lit, too many self-help books or the Da Vinci Code/Harry Potter complete set alongside the absence of any thing else, I know it probably wasn't meant to me. Then again, books rule my life...
Thinking about it, I started to fall for my current partner when I was skint and needed some entertainment over a long weekend. That lovely man loaned me 10 books, 5 of which were in my list of all-time favourites.

Toilet Rat
David Attenborough once recounted an anecdote in which he suffered from a rare bout of traveller's diarrhea whilst in India.
"...and now, we see the elusive poo rat. It is a nocturnal creature, and finds its habitat in mankinds toilet bowls. After being covered in defication, it makes its way home with the bounty..."

How do I give my lady friend an orgasm?
It's not true that you "have to learn to love yourself". I never EVER ever could, but would only get close to that annoying plateau. I thought it wouldn't happen, until one day, with a really patient partner, I discovered the glory of being on top. This is after 7 years of having sex.
I also found that if I drink at all or use any other mind-altering substance, it just won't happen.
After a lot of practice, I can finally do it by... [more]

Tonsillectomy survival tips and grocery list?
I had my tonsils out 2years ago when I was 24. First of all, it does really REALLY suck. But not as bad as having tonsilitis for the rest of your life.
They put me on morphine and wouldn't up my dose until I ate a little bit of something. I found that yogurt and Mullerice (Rice pudding stuff that you can heat up a little) was excellent. Nothing with too many bits, but any bisque or liquid soup is good. Avoid citrus like the plague. Dairy does increase phlegm, but it was... [more]

How to Learn Teeline?
How spooky is that? I've just been trawling for courses in London. I'm not sure of where it's taught in the states, but I'd be more than happy to share book titles, study guides and general angst once I do my first course this weekend.

Really, macdara? I've found Pittman requires loads of practice. I've been told by a Teeline advocate that it's more current than the earlier Pittman and more like handwriting. I'm an editor, so have escaped having to know either until recently.
I think either way you cut it, you need about 80 hours to get good at it...

Not with newborn babies on ER, rc55. That's the group I'm really interested in. Basically, there's a real bastard I work with and my colleagues are trying to find the perfect job for him. If there's a position that makes babies cry for entertainment, I reckon I've got it cracked.

put on your cross-platform shoes
God. The fonts drive me batty. I avoid all cross-platform issues unless the other people involved have all the fonts that I need for PCs and Mac. I have to be really careful with translators, printers, designers and the like. Also, the style sheets need to be spot on. Best avoid the issue all together.

How can my husband help?
Speaking as a former sufferer, I've come to realise that depression makes you a selfish, difficult person (not that you can help it, but you can't care for others when you're going through a particular low). One thing I found to be very helpful was to have my partner act normal: go out and do the things he wanted to do, socialise with mates.
It took the pressure off of me to try to be happy - or worse - entertain others and my partner. He was able to have some semblance... [more]

Fabrica in Brighton did an exhibition where you could feel the footfalls of people in Vienna (I think) as you walked across a wooden path.

rocking my ESL lessons
I used to use Abba's "Take a chance on me" to teach the conditional. Everyone knows it's cheesy, and you only have to listen to it a few times. It all depends on what level your students are at.
Beatle's songs and Green Day are also surprisingly easy to adapt to lessons.
