Please start posting about poor missing/dead minority women.
He didn't say he cares about missing/dead poor/non-white women, just that he dislikes people caring about rich white ones.

I bet greasemonkey can do that.
Why hasn't anyone registered the username greasemonkey yet? Or its variations?

I c*nt stop saying twat.
Yea, I object to the Pommy/Seppo-centric nature of this conversation.
When I was growing up 'twat' was pretty much the only swearword my mother would use. It's about as offensive as 'oh my goodness!'. 'Cunt' can be used either like 'fuckhead' (relatively offensive, but not gendered) or as Ubu refers to, a usage more like 'bastard': no offense whatsoever, no gender implication.
(etymology of Pom)

5 minutes of great reading.
I just thought I'd mention that it only took me one minute to read the post. (I have apparently picked up the habit of reading the introduction and conclusion first, so I saw the 'this took you five minutes' bit and went back to time myself, deliberately reading at least at normal speed if not slower).
Do you guys all really read that slowly? How do you ever get anything done?

"that lincoln addressed the confederate troops before the battle"
I'm going to assume that's a joke.
And no, I don't work for the public service, I don't work at all. I just read fast so I can go back to playing flash games. Maybe I'll slow down when I have actual work to do :)

Do Mefites get sick of eating Chatfilter?
OP's an idiot. Even when my parents were kids 40 years ago, they ate basically the same thing every day - ethnic food was for ethnic people. Dad remembers having tinned spaghetti once, that counted as Italian food.
Also, people assumed he was American because Americans are the ones who normally show complete ignorance about every other culture in the world, especially on the internet.

Why do people make a post to say they've sent a mefi mail?
I get all my mefimail forwarded straight to my regular account, so I read it there. Then I make an effort not to read it in the mefi inbox so the little envelope is always telling me I have new mail - it's like a constant warm fuzzy feeling.

Huh, see facebook does that to my friend as well, but somehow I have fixed the universe so that when facebook emails me, it contains the text of the message as well. I tried to figure out if I'd done something to get that behaviour so I could show her how, but I have no idea. This guy wrote about it as well, but some of his respondents also still have to visit facebook to read their messages. Anyone know what's going on there?... [more]

sian, why don't you set up your own mail account to auto-forward to your email account? That wouldn't remove the need to alert other people, but at least it would mean you never missed noticing your own mail.
This assumes you check your actual email regularly, ie; you are not a freak. People who don't check their email regularly are freaks.

kittyprecious writes '"Yr" is spelled without a period, as it is meant to mimic informal writing much like LOLTXTMSGery.'
Trusting as I do in Jessamyn's general literacy and ability to refrain from msn-speak, I assumed that she was actually using the more archaic version 'yr.' which used to be seen in letter writing. I had trouble googling for examples, but there are several on this page.... [more]

Stinking of gin...
Thank god someone meta'd this (even though it's gone now) because now I have somewhere to say: the OP sounded like an immature jerk, and his ex girlfriend should shutup already and let him fight his own battles if she has such trust in his mental faculties. And the tone of the thread is the fault of the post for being all 'need drink to get through class...class is boring...blah blah'. Why the hell would you even bother turning up to class with alcohol? You're deluding yourself if you think it... [more]

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that a gender-neutral site would simply not make references to gender: I think the issue is more that gender should be able to be noticed/discussed without falling into sexual stereotyping and 'I'd hit that'. We, the female population of metafilter*, are terribly sorry that you're not having fun here, but ... ok, I give up, what the hell does 'the second run to corner market' mean?

googly: do you mean why is TPS' profile pink? It always has been, users used to have the option of modding their profile with custom css. It got taken away after some exploits were discovered or something, but pre-existing css remains until the user edits their profile. TPS (alone?) has held out!

After all, it was Ubu who sent us there - so either it is what he thinks of as fun, or we have just seen another skirmish in the ongoing battle between Melburnites and their envious northern neighbours...
Of course Melbourne won, braving torrential rain, freezing cold and some freakish late sunlight that still didn't illuminate that alleyway, to make that meetup happen. Also I tried a new cocktail, a Rob Roy, so I consider it a personal victory as well.
