MeTa post: Portland, ME meetup on July 2nd?
Maybe. I'll have to see how things go on that day. Should we all be wearing Hawaiian shirts in solidarity?

MeTa post: May Cycling Challenge and 10km Streak
I'll throw in bike stickers for the winner (MetaFilter stickers or winner's choice).

MeTa post: Cycling challenges for 2008
Wait, we were supposed to ramp down for the winter?

I'll throw in some of my bike stickers (you don't have to choose the MetaFilter ones) as prizes for any contests.

How about "most consecutive days of at least 5 miles" starting in May?

Other than most improved, I really like mikepop's suggestion of a consecutive day measure (even if it was meant as a joke).

I didn't mean it as a joke. I think it would be a good motivator to get on the bike every day, even if you have to fight the weather or whatnot. I ride everyday to work, but I don't always ride both weekend days (for example). Keeping it to 10km means anyone can go for this one. And it shouldn't have an end date - it keeps going... [more]

MeTa post: Portland Maine and The King of Kong Informal Meetup
I guess I should have mentioned, you know, the date and all. It is Saturday, the 12th.

now I will have breakfast and get my brain in gear

Right in that area - on Congress Street (538), 'twixt the LL Bean Outlet and MECA.

See you there!

MeTa post: Yay, first place! (but not for long)
What do the bike stickers actually say? They're illegible on the cafepress page.

Sorry, cafepress sort of limits how you can present images; Here is what I use as the "front-end" of the store, and here is direct link to a detail of that sticker.
posted to MetaTalk by mikepop at 6:04 AM on January 22, 2008
I should add that the reason that you can't see the details on the cafepress page is because I duplicate the design a bunch of times on one standard bumper-sized sticker, so when you buy one sticker you actually get a bunch of bike stickers you can cut out and share. CafePress doesn't have a bike-sized sticker option so that was the strategy I went with.

MeTa post: So, did you survive eating the sandwich?
I just used CafePress, posted it to Projects and have made a few bucks.

This website never made it beyond the development stage, although I do have some random stories orphaned from it.

MeTa post: Overmoderation.
Obviously a "leaving.metafilter.com" would solve this quandary :)

How about a "I'm leaving and never coming back" checkbox in the user profile? That way the member can notify the site but not have to start a thread. Make available an RSS feed of those who leave.

MeTa post: Cycling challenge - 3 days left
Repeating myself from the weendure site, how about a metafilter-blue bike jersey?

MetaFilter logo on the front, "your favorite bike sucks" tagline on the back.

MeTa post: Mefi Summit
If anything comes together for the minor east coast contingent, I'll hopefully be able to join in. Sunday River?

My family just started skiing in February, so still learning (good motivation to learn quickly) but having fun and looking forward to this winter.

MeTa post: The Great Rewrite?
If a re-write is necessary, there will be JRun rationing in the meantime: those with an odd number of vowels in their usernames will not be able to access the site during peak times Mondays and Wednesdays. Those with an even number of vowels in their username sare out of luck Tuesdays and Fridays. Those with no vowels in their usernames lose out on Thursdays.

MeTa post: Cycling challenge, end of week 1
If nothing else I find it helps motivate me to enter my rides more quickly, as opposed to having to do a big batch every week or so.

MeTa post: Cyclists do it on two wheels
I fully support this, since I have been using We Endure for a while now :)

I have to go back in and enter my rides for most of July; then I have to find my computer so I can have times again.

I have an inexpensive Sigma I am happy with. Looks like the basic one comes in fairly cheap here at $15. (Mine is a few years old, so not sure which current Sigma it actually corresponds to).

Flatbread Pizza place is good, parking garage right next door.

Unfortunately I don't know when I'll be getting back into town that night, but if it comes together I'll swing by if at all possible.

MeTa post: Uh, wtf? Is this really what Jobs is for? (And I...
I don't think anyone wants to restricts job postings to web developers, but (to me anyway) it is more the tone of the ad:

as a study volunteer, you could Earn Up To $800 or more

So I am a volunteer, meaning if I make any money it is just a bit of extra luck? So perhaps I could earn "up to" $800. Unless I earn more. What can I earn "down to"? $100? $20? $0?... [more]

MeTa post: Has a mobile version of MetaFilter been suggested...
The regular version works fairly well with a Sidekick 3/hiptop3:

I'd like to see a few tweaks so the sidebar loads after the main content, and the CSS adjusted to un-skinny the post listings.

MeTa post: Hey everyone, I got 1,000 vox invites to give to...
I started up a few months ago, and I find I blog more now (whether that is good or bad in the grand scheme of the universeis up for debate). As mathowie says, you just go and write and you don't really have to worry about much.

Customization is under their control, but for me that's just one less thing to distract me. Also, they have about 50 new themes coming down the pike real soon now. I've hosted my own blog software for years, but I'm 90% sure I'm going to switch... [more]

but the objection seems to be that the name is a compound of mowgli and sambo. I'm not sure what the compound means, nor, I'm sure, are any of the people concerned, but there seems to be an attribution of racism as a result of seeing those two names.

I'm not sure either, but my guess would be she likes classic children's books?

MeTa post: Just out of curiosity - Were you a BBSer? Did you...
I used to dial into boards in my local area: 914 (Most notably, Alex's Place BBS - Hi Alex!) and 212 (including, I think, Cyberia, mentioned above).

A bit later on ended up calling into some in the midwest (Games Plus, Global Gallery) and Ohio (Chatnet).

Oddly enough I ended up meeting more people in real life from far away boards compared to local ones.
