A nowhere continuous derivative?
If it is differentiable at a point, then it is also continuous at said point. If the point is a discontinuity of the function f(x), then it is not differentiable at that point.

How can I cheaply patch ceramic bathroom wall tiles which are coming off?
Are you just caulking the grout joint? That won't even be a good temporary fix.
There are two options, you could probably buy a small amount of mastic from a flooring supply or hardware store and reset the tile, then caulk the grout joint as a temporary fix.
The other option is doing the same thing, but using a gorilla glue or some other adhesive.
Mastic is better, it i how the tile was set to begin with (ideally), but... [more]

How do I save my relationship?
I'm not really too bothered if I just have to 'get-over' my problems...
Yes, you are. You talk about the problems that you have, but you haven't really accepted that they are problems or are the cause of this girl falling out of love with you. This is your fault, you are smothering her and being, as others have noted, abusive.
Do the girl a favor and find a way to get the hell away from her, once you sort your own shit out... [more]

Or I could quietly jiggle
Pilates and yoga aren't the same as strength and cardio training, no matter what anyone tries to tell you.
Talk to your neighbor, see if there is a convenient time for both of you to work out where it won't bother her. That way, you both win. However, if she makes a big deal out of it again, do as you please. You have to put up with her rudeness and bitching, so she can put up with a little stomping. Like you said, it is your place. Part of living in an apartment is... [more]

Changing academic direction (am I being foolish?)
While other people will have more specific advice, I just wanted to chime and say that you should go for it.
I took six years to get my undergraduate degree. Why? I started in English and finished with Physics and Math. I had to start at one class above the most remedial math they offered, and bring my math up to a level comparable with my peers who were just starting college. It's hard, and frustrating, but very possible to do.
Good luck!

You Put Your Weed In There?
The gift shop in my home town used to have boxes very similar to these. They were all constructed such that the opening method was hidden with the grain of the wood, and had just a small place to store things. When I was a kid, I hid my special coins in them.
This box looks very, very similar.

Which Akira should I buy?
I have the original DVD release of Akira with the new dubbing, and it is sad to say that it isn't nearly as enjoyable as the original dubbing. I'm not sure if this has changed, but finding a VHS with the original dubbing is getting very difficult.

Seconding Starting Strength, T-Nation, and StrongLifts.
As a beginner, a 5x5 program like the StrongLifts program will do wonders for you. To give you some idea, in three months on that program (and I am not a beginner) I've put on 20 pounds, with 15 of that being muscle and 5 being fat (I made sure to over eat just enough). When you put on that much muscle though, you don't notice the 5 pounds of fat. I also had the aid of creatine and lots of protein.... [more]

What languages are good for Windows apps?
I was just going to say C++ with Qt. I do all my development on Linux, but I have encountered anything but minor issues with porting things to OS X and Windows. There is a ton of documentation online, and a great online manual.
The only issue is that if you want to sell your software, you will have to buy the commercial license for Qt. However, that gets you even more support.

Now what?
The big mistake here is that every option involves a plan for you two to reconcile at some point. When you break up, actually do it. Don't wait for each other, don't plan on getting back together. It won't happen. This relationship is over, and you both need to get out and move on. No plans to get back together a year later or after she fucks around and for the love of god let me reiterate: DO NOT WAIT FOR HER.

And again, thank you everyone. This has been so incredibly helpful.

The awkwardness of the crap distance runner
People used to laugh at me when I ran, too! Now, they don't!
Besides all the advice already given, it really helped me to focus on my gait while I was running. You should be able to tell what is making you tired, what isn't comfortable, etc. while you are running, and then make small adjustments to see if you feel an improvement. A year of doing this and I find myself with a decent gait that I am no longer terribly embarrassed about.

Buying an Oscilloscope
If you are at a bigger school, you may have an campus salvage store where all old equipment goes to get sold off, to recoup the cost of new equipment. You can often find old test equipment there (as well as loads of other neat stuff, like microfiche readers!).

How to tile a bathroom?
You can bullnose it yourself, with the right tools but they can be expensive. If you can, call up your local contractor or subcontractor (NOT ColorTile or something similar, look for smaller guys) and try to talk them into doing it for you. It'll cost you some money, but you can still install it yourself then, and you'll have custom caps!

The other option of course is run the tile to the edge of the wall (assuming your shower sits in an alcove or some such) and then grout the end. This will also look fine and will probably be cheaper if you don't have much distance to cover.

Don't expect chores to get done during the day. During the day he will be working and focusing on his projects, he won't have time to do the dishes, clean, do laundry, etc. and expecting as much would be completely unfair. It would be like expecting you to come home with clean dishes, laundry, and having cleaned the bathroom.
Even if he has downtime, it should not be expected that he do chores. Again, it would be like asking you to clean the bathroom during a break... [more]

Please help me stop eating animal slices
First, find out your BMR using either a calculator or use the formula. Try here.
For the average person, your BMR is how many calories you burn each day by just existing.
Start counting calories and making sure you eat at least your BMR each day. Start adding calories (I'd say in a couple hundred calorie chunks, since your metabolism is working against your goal) until your weight starts increasing at a rate you are comfortable with.... [more]

A clarification:
I'm definitely going into experimental work, with maybe some computational if I can swing it. I'd like to do theory but I know I don't have the head for it, unfortunately. This helps a lot with my GREs, though, since the bar is much lower than for a theorist.
