A SHIT OBIT
I was out lying in the grass in the sunshine all day. What's going on here again?
Well, I'm watching "Wolf Creek" and drinking mint juleps. I'm pretty sure a couple of Australians are about to die, which I feel they deserve, on account of their funny talkin' and all. It's kind of like a drinking game, only one where you drink when you feel like drinking.

Why anon?
The answer you're looking for isn't the one you're going to get, because the answer you're going to get is what jessamyn said plus an honestly good-natured (from me, anyway) "you don't need to know the asker's motivations, because it's none of your business, the mods approved it, and so the question stands."

It's just that it seemed strange to see approved an everyday question like that and I was curious about the criteria used behind the decision.
I'll grant you, it's unusual, but I imagine self-esteem issues are involved there. I can't speak for the mods here, but I handle anonymous question-asking on another site, and my personal criterion there is that if there's no possible stinky motivation for asking something anonymously (and I don't see... Y'all is plural.
Not necessarily. Y'all can indeed be singular, and if you wish to be unambiguously plural in your usage, you say "All y'all."

See also: me wanting to poke someone in the eye every time I hear that aural atrocity.
Gah, when I was in high school, there was a guy who bought me beer whose wife said that all the time. It almost wasn't worth the free beer.

I understand where this is coming from, but from what the mods have written previously, MeMail is meant to be a bare-bones private messaging system by design, and any usage more complex than basic call-and-response should be taken to personal email.

I didn't know they made turkey pot pie?
I once had a duck pot pie with a 35-year-old bottle of red. Dessert was homemade chocolate chip ice cream topped with strawberries marinated in balsamic vinegar and brown sugar.

Is it just me? I can't see it. I have firefox.....
I'm in FF (portable) as well. I don't see a bar, but I see asker's comments pulled out into the margin a bit. (I'm also running like three or four GM scripts for this site, which may affect that.
Check this thread, taff -- I've got three comments in there, starting about 2/3 of the way down. Do they stick out to the left at all?

Did you ever get your car, middleclasstool?
I hope to update that thread tomorrow with a "yes." We had to sacrifice a few mpg -- buying a hybrid is a costly and months-long process in which most dealers try to sell you over MSRP, but even at MSRP the price difference with higher financing charges was getting to be way more than we were able to pay, so we've backed away from hybrids and found a small crossover we like that has just enough... Looks like Obama has officially clinched the pledged delegates. Time will tell if DaShiv's predictions are correct, though I'll be shocked if the superdelegates overturn the will of the voters (and will welcome President McCain into office, as well).

I, Item, would like to be able to view deleted Ask Metafilter threads. I don't see what the harm will be, as long as a minor hoop has to be jumped through to view them ala lofi.mefi.
And then I'll really be fucked.
Ooh, hadn't thought of that. The GM script is kind of painful to use on Ask because of the approval queue issue, so much so that I don't really bother. I'm wondering how frequent the n00b queue posts on the front page are going to be.

Oh, good. I read p&c's comment to mean that it was in the works. Not that it's a big deal in the grand scheme of things, just I like the script and would hate to see it get borked.

Nobody in the thread who downloaded and ran it mentioned having to buy a thing, and the download page doesn't say anything about buying anything. I'd verify it, but my computer's old and doesn't have system resources to run it.

I wish to Christ I understood why people care so much, on either side of the divide. Software not for you. Sky no fall, car no asplode, clothes still comfy, oral sex still a possibility. Ignore post, drink whisk(e)y, take goddamn nap. Find software you can use.

So, and this is a genuine question, not a challenge: your belief is that no software should ever be posted about on the front page ever, with the possible exception of software that will run in Windows, OSX, and *nix?
If so, fine, at least that'd be a consistent line of thought, but I vigorously disagree that every post has to be for every member.

Why does it bug me? Because every goddamn fanboi on the net is already covering it.
This is an excellent point, especially in the context of people getting so inexplicably het up about this bullshit.
However, the flip side there is that not everyone reads the fanboy sites. I scan Appleinsider about once a week lately even though I'm a WinXP user, because I'm saving up for a MacBook Pro and am curious when the Montevinas... [more]

How do you stay up with it? Just reading comments, or do you have some sort of pb/cortex hackamariffic little HitItSignal that sounds klaxons and fires up a twirly red light and tweets "d jessamyn reset the clock lol" whenever that string hits the database? Inquiring minds want to know.

3) I believe that it appears, but it's not dated to the most current favorite but when the post/comment was made, so if it's a month or more, it won't show up on the sidebar unless you have a particularly stagnant sidebar. Many of you have missed out on my Noel Coward-esque wit because of this.

Could anonymous questions automatically get tagged anonymous?
That sounds easier to implement than the pony request, and less stalkery, I guess. For non-anon questions, you could just add the people you like to your contacts and follow them on the front page sidebar. We pretty much have this functionality, just not rolled into the MyAsk page itself. It'd be more convenient -- okay, I've just talked myself into supporting this.

I'm curious, because all I know about the profession is when some scumbag gets caught spamming or astroturfing, plus that mildly funny douchey discussion where they tried to understand MeTa. Are there such things as ethical SEO people who use honest, above-board techniques to help boost a client's page rank?
