MeTa post: How It Ends
Nails, are you like permanently out of town or are we just missing each other?

adipocere, will do, definitely.

dearest fieldtrip, I very much wish you could come tomorrow night. But if not, yes, please! I should like another meetup, and soon! The Hornet was fantastic, or since the Rockies appear to be (thankfully) winding down perhaps we could revert to the Falling Rock.

NailsTheCat, I shall simply have to perfect my teleporter. I've very nearly got it... tho there appears to be a very minor quibble with the whole reassembly process, and you know how people will insist on... [more]

MeTa post: DNC MeFite Gathering?
I shall be STUCK in Denver during the DNC, because, well, I live there. It's actually going to suck for me as I depend on public transportation from central downtown to get back n forth to my job in Boulder every day and the RTD is one of those "terrorist vectors" that the homeland security type bozos are going to be leaning on, bleh.

That said, I shall be quite ready for alcohol and commiseration should you lot decide to do so.

If... [more]

hi lukemeister, I've got this in my recent activity and have also been watching it.

What we've done in the past that's worked well with the Denver contingent has been send out a group email/MeMail. fieldtrip was the keeper of The List iirc.

Hornet - plz to clue me in on where? I'll be there with bells on!

dr. fresh if you have that list don't be shy. I didn't capture it so I'd have to dig a bit.

Hi guys, I've added this to the meetups calendar!

Thanks for taking care of this dr. fresh.

MeTa post: Worldcons, bah. Hooray Beer!
ooh meetup!

I won't be at worldcon but I do live in Denver!

Nails, I vote we check to see if the Rockies are going to be in town. If they are, any LoDo bar on that end of town including Falling Rock will be tres lame.
posted to MetaTalk by lonefrontranger at 10:41 PM on August 1, 2008
shit, the Rockies will be in town for a 1.05 matinee game on Thursday, which means the drunken hordes will be leaving the park and descending upon the bars just about the time we want to be there. I'd say any bar that's north(ish) of Lawrence/Larimer and east of, say, 17th is going to be a madhouse.

The Convention Centre is actually not in LoDo it's more of the Financial District shading towards uptown. Bonus: it's very close to lightrail. We should strive for... [more]

Marlowe's is fantastic, Rock Bottom is a chain, but it's still pretty decent. The Mercury Cafe is weird, funky and perhaps a tad far from the convention centre.

And then there's this place. At Denver Worldcon, vodka infuses YOU!

MeTa post: Denver Meet Up
aw man! we already made plans this weekend! I am going to be at a bike race pretty much all day on Saturday then I'm heading by REI to collect the mister around 7.30ish.

hm. there is an outside chance I can swing by for a little bit. It depends tho.

for the record I now live in Five Points / Whittier (translation: practically downtown) so that (technically) my ability to achieve meetup nirvana should be greater than before.
posted to MetaTalk by lonefrontranger at 5:33 AM on July 12, 2008
damn. I had a vague idea that -t was leaving soon but I didn't know that it was permanent. SUCKS. well not for the people where he's going anyhows.

YES we should plan another Denver meetup soon. I've been meaning to do this since like, months ago.

Either Denver or Boulder is fair game for the next one, Boulder especially for weeknights as I work in B, live in D.

MeTa post: This is not what AskMe is for.
that's fine xmutex and honestly, I don't disagree, however ridiculing the OP is also not what AskMe is for. Even stupid questions deserve answers.
posted to MetaTalk by lonefrontranger at 9:36 AM on February 24, 2008
It was a rhetorical question jonmc, and you're smart enough to get that, I'm sure of it. WGPs snark definitely broke the guidelines (and, in review, I see has been deleted)

I know you enjoy being willfully obtuse, but come off it.
posted to MetaTalk by lonefrontranger at 9:41 AM on February 24, 2008
Honestly, I enjoy snark as much as the next person, and have myself had silly one-liners deleted from Ask. That's not the point here.

The value in AskMe does not lie in being morally superior or selfrighteous. Dancinglamb, at the risk of being an asshole, what on earth gives you the right to judge the OP, whether by his prior post history or quality of the question or whatever moral/intellectual yardstick you feel is proper?

Anyway that's... [more]

MeTa post: Generic Celebrity Thread Blues
okay, thank goodness ND¢ made those points, because I don't have internet at the house and MeFi is blocked at work, so this leaves oh, about an hour a day when I can read the site.

I thought about bringing up exactly this same thing last night but didn't have time to read the whole damned thread plus THIS entire damned thread.

What Smedleyman said... well and whomever-it-was he was quoting as well. It bears re-repeating. It's too bad that the mods don't appear to be in agreement.

It's just disappointing and mildly confusing to me to (re)discover that ObitFilters are apparently not held to the same tight standards as the rest of MeFi's FPP policy. Most of the time I don't much bother, as I'm not much of a celebrity gawker. In this case, it made me sad and somewhat pissed-off. Especially... [more]

MeTa post: Damn. That was cold!
hmm, guess I should start logging again. we've had lots of snow in Boulder so far this season.

tho I'll likely be skiing on NYE/NYD. I suppose sliding miles don't count, as it's forecast to be 6°F out at Copper tomorrow.
posted to MetaTalk by lonefrontranger at 10:45 AM on December 30, 2007
Done and done. The wicked wind precluded our ski trip to Copper yesterday/today since I-70 was shut down from Evergreen to Vail. So I went and did a road ride instead.

Chuckles, I think I did this right? (stuck the temp in the comment on my WeEndure log). That was the daily high, mind you. Mean temp for the ride was prolly more like 25 or 26F.

Happy New Year from lovely Boulder!... [more]

thanks, Chuckles. it's been mild here, but I've been riding the fixte like a fiend.

combo of WeEndure downage and lack of intertubes at chez lfr has been hammering my update capabilities. go check my account and prepare to be underwhelmed... I finally logged the last, oh, week and a half or so.

*reads threads, pounds head on desk*

tho I'm aware that this has been brought up repeatedly elsewhere, I don't particularly care to have MeFi "sanitised" for my delicate little sensibilities, thanks all the same.

I don't see this as an issue of gender unfriendliness, sexism, racism, that MeFi is a "boyzone"... [more]

Actually Abiezer, I personally see it as an attempt to avoid the issue or take the lazy man's way out of a socially uncomfortable situation. By providing a specific flag, you then take the responsibility for the user base to publicly say to the offender "Hey, that kind of thing is not okay". It tidily sweeps the issue under the rug, where no one has to deal with it.

Me, I like my assholes over easy, with a big side of snark. But that's just me. And I don't... [more]

I will do some research. I'm not totally against the Sundowner, mind you, it's just that we may want to look for other options.

How about showing up early and just taking over part of the community table at Southern Sun? There's good beer there!
posted to MetaTalk by lonefrontranger at 10:55 PM on November 19, 2007
koeselitz, I'm actually more in favour of the Mountain Sun than the Southern if only because I'm a lazy prat and MS is much easier for me to get to from my house (i.e. not way out on the far end of South Boulder / South Broadway).

The reason I recommended it is simple: it's a much larger place.

The vibe is a little more with the college students, less with the clean hippies. The challenge with Mountain Sun is that if you don't get there by like,... [more]

hm, maybe I should have gone to bed sooner... up there where I said "it" in the 2nd paragraph, I was referring to Southern Sun. It's a bigger place, and it's a bit more sports-bar-ish.

There's also the upstairs/mezzanine at BJ's Pizza on the Pearl St. Mall. Which also has excellent beer. And I believe can be reserved.

okay lets not plate-of-beans this one. Southern Sun it is. they have couches but I dunno if one may reserve that section. I believe it's their waiting lounge for overflow for when they're waiting to seat people. I can find out tho.

The only day that's bad for me over the next couple of weeks is 8th December.
