When smartphones have stupid features
Oh man. Thanks so much for the heads up on 4.5. I'm installing it now. Apparently my many calls to RIM to complain about this might have had an effect. Good to know.

Okay apparently I'm NOT installing it. I just installed the features that will tell me when it's officially available. Is there somewhere I can get a copy of 4.5?

When Traffic Court gets ugly
I made a turn into a driveway. I crossed all wheels off the road onto the driveway. I backed out. I parked at a meter. I put away my GPS. I locked my car and started putting money into said meter when the cops showed up to ticket me. My understanding has always been - and I believe People V. McGuire 1978 backs me up - that a three point turn, using a driveway, was kosher in California.
Which, by the way, I cited. For all the good it did me.

Also, regarding the points on my license, is there anything I can do now that the judge has denied me traffic school? for instance, can I go visit my sister in NYC, get my license there, and then come back without it going on my insurance?

Okay but, I might add, if you DO go the cruise route, DON'T cheap out and go with the Carnival cruise lowest price package. I just got back from one and, among many other slights, they actually didn't have a working pool on the boat for three days out of four. It was like being trapped in a two star hotel for half a week.

When the parking wars go nuclear.
For the record, I have complained to building management (they're in Korea and could care less. Our elevators go down more than Windows Vista)
I have left pleasant notes on the windshields to no effect.
I have even asked security to get involved. Their response was that it wasn't their job.
I've done all the smart and reasonable stuff. So now I'm onto car dollies.

Before we play name that tune, you're going to have to tell me how to play you that tune
I've done the Picard thing before. Sadly someone, I believe, edited these tracks slightly so the ID'ing either doesn't work or I'm completely mistaken and what I think is bebop jazz must be Woodie Guthrie. So I'm going back to the idea of posting and letting your collective music brainz figure it out.
I think I'm going with the Vox blog idea. While I appreciate the idea of only posting a clip of the music, sometimes, for the person listening, you're cutting the one part... [more]

Whole Lot of Shaking Going On. But only right before bed. And not in the fun way.
Okay some quick things
1) Residential neighborhood, I'm on the third floor, and no subway, freeway or night-time construction site are nearby. It's actually a very nice little area. So I'd rule out all shakes transportational.
2) We have two regular washing machines downstairs that are in the back of the building and never seem to shake when I'm doing laundry. And as a man I've done many an unbalanced load. Often with little regard for separating... [more]

Symptoms: I'll list of the ones that are the reasons why I HAD to go in, but, in retrospect, most of the symptoms had been there for years in much milder ways. I just never put two and two together.
1) Eyes. Red. Dry. Painful. Occasionally very itchy. Eyelids Droop in the light sometimes. Numbness, tinging, pressure other times. Periods of constant tearing. Periods with a spreading numbness that goes back from the left eye... [more]

Good thoughts all around. Thanks. I do feel a little like my world is ending. The worst part is, till I get a specific diagnosis, I don't even know what support group I should go to.
One thing though: how can you get a flu shot when you're on Enbrel? I thought exposure to a live virus is a bad thing when you're on any of the anti-TNF drugs.

It's official:
I am the owner of a Certified Pre-owned 2006 Audi A4 with 11K miles on it. It has the sports suspension, the heated front seats and the dealer threw in the installation of an IPOD jack to seal the deal. It's got a rock solid warranty through 2011.
I paid 23,500 with 3.9% financing over 48 months. I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase.

Well these have all been fantastic recommendations. Currently I am looking strongly at a slightly used 350Z or used Audi TT. Barring that, the next down on the list is a used Audi A4.
And should I not be able to find ANY of those cars with the immediate depreciation removed (but still possessing warranty protection) then I will go with a new 2008 Honda Civic EX-L. I'll still suffer the depreciation but it will at least be less than most cars.... [more]

Mark Twain in Recovery
Well allow me to throw in a little anecdotal evidence. I was in college in 1994 and I wrote a little teleplay for five eps of a sitcom that I shot and produced. I WROTE the script in September of 1994 and I used the phrase "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt" in it.
Now I stole that, clearly, and I remember took it from a line in that sketch with the two gay movie reviewers "men on film" from the TV show "In Living Color"... [more]

Yeah you DO get to keep the car, but they get some 300 dollar fee back from the money allocated. I think it was a disuse charge thing. I'd have to look over the paperwork.
But that said, I don't imagine I'll get anywhere near the money I put in. I just want to know what to baseline the price as.

What I wonder is, at some point, does learning get FASTER though?
With speed readers, they gain incrementally until they hit some magic point where, whammo, suddenly they're flying through the pages. IN theory, maybe that's how the learning works. Once you learn enough disciplines, suddenly, all the connections start making sense. Like a unified field theory of learning.
