This New York Times article generated voluminous ranting in the blue in this thread. Critical portions of the article have been revealed as being rather, uh, Rathergate-ish and have been retracted by the Times.

I observed that I have saved more comments from ROU_Xenophobe as favorites than from anyone else. Having noticed that, I checked ROU's profile, saw "contributions from ROU_Xenophobe saved by others 135 times" and tried to look at these to see if there were any pearls I had missed (aside: yes.) First page of favorites saved by others displays 30 comments. The "next page" link at the bottom apparently goes to page 2 of the favorited comments (the url changes, anyway) but the same 30 comments are displayed. No matter how many times I click "next page" I keep seeing the same 30 comments. Same result in IE6, Mozilla 1.7, and Foxfire 1.5. Darn it, I want to read the rest of prof. Xenophobe's greatest hits.

I missed the joke pointed out by this post. The flikr 7-day random wasn't all cats when I looked. However, it did net up this pic of a well-known mefiite which will interest many others. (The ones who are most interested, of course, will surely have seen it already.)

May I say that if there must be politics in AskMe, papercake's scrupulously value-neutral question is the way to do it? And thank you, SidheDevil, for the brief teacher's-ruler-across-the-knuckles that kept us on topic.

The other day I posted a sentence including the Greek letter pi. This appeared as the Greek letter on preview but came out as a couple of question marks in the actual post. Today a post by languagehat included some Kanji characters and a bit later in the thread he says, darn it, ...those characters looked fine on preview. Can someone explain the difference between preview and live posting when it comes to special characters? Thanks!

You are posting a link without a description, or a description without a link, please correct this The links are included, with brackets and tags, in the description as usual since I joined 2-ish years ago. What are we fishing for here?

You forgot to include a title, please correct this Did no such thing, included the text string "poo969" in the Link title: field. What are we fishing for here? Have we been studying bondage-and-discipline languages with Bucky Wirth? Just askin'.

PS, Search Metatalk "please correct this" Nothing was found with that search criteria, try searching again.

Will someone help me find a thread? I tried searching but my memory of the actual text is very vague. The link I'm looking for (sometime recently, like no earlier than last summer I think) was to a series of arrest mug shots of the same lady over a series of years, showing the effects of long-term drug use (and probably malnutrition and generally leading a street-hooker life). My son needs images for a school drug project, and these were the saddest (not to mention scariest) I ever remember seeing.

Thanks very much!
