MeFi post: Sex in public park legal in Amsterdam
But it's so family-friendly there! Especially in the parks at night!

MeFi post: RIP.
With my favorite columnist gone, that's one less reason to read The Onion. RIP, H-Dog.

MeFi post: Ewe won't believe this, folks!
*sigh*

I wish I could go back a half-hour to the world where I thought this was true. That was a better place than this jaded time.

MeFi post: What the grownups are talking about
Oh, I was hoping for actual quotes form kids about what they thought their parents were saying. Very disappointing.

MeFi post: Urgent pet food recall, deaths
Four-Eyed Girl, I feed my cat Newman's Own dry cat food. The ingredients are pretty good, better than Nutro's, and it's not as pricey as some of the premium cat foods. It's also relatively easy to find - I've bought it at a Whole Foods in addition to the local pet store.

I, unfortunately, had been alternating the Newman's dry with the Nutro wet, so I am keeping a close eye on my poor kitty.

I thought it was a Burger King promo, but either way, that record is missing from the collection.

MeFi post: "They won’t have signs in the future that say Many Years Later!” "Wow. Technology."
I love the idea of a biodegradable straw from a renewable resource. It seems like there are two potential products, though, one that's more like celery, in the shape of a straw, and one that's more like a straw, but made out of celery. The image in the article seems to be the latter.

Also, on the side-topics:
-Twizzlers are fun to use as straws for Coke or Diet Coke, but they don't last long, because the cola eats away at the bottom of the 'straw'.... [more]

I've always thought that the beauty to Airborne is that you can't prove a negative.

I took Airborne before a flight, and didn't get sick.
Therefore, Airborne works!

I thought it was funny.

Those Ferengi must be BADASS.

MeFi post: Making Fiends
This cartoon has been around for a few years. Not only that, it hasn't had a new cartoon posted to it in about a year, too.

While we're posting ye olde online cartoons picked up by cable networks, I'll mention Strindberg & Helium.

MeFi post: Nice margins.
I really enjoyed the article. I don't know why someone would go to such lengths to investigate an obviously overpriced item, but I enjoyed reading about it.
Great post!!

MeFi post: Saved the world with Used Books?
Why buy when you can rent? What's the draw of owning used books over picking them up at the library?

MeFi post: TSA Warning -- Don't Fart in Flight!!!
It seems like common sense that lighting a match on a plane is a bad idea. Maybe that's my own concern about the limits of space, oxygen, flammability, etc. What troubles me about this article is that this lady lit several matches. Also, in an odd, premeditated move, she took the matches with her into the bathroom. I'm glad she's grounded. Not because I think she's a terrorist, but because I think she's an idiot.
posted to MetaFilter by Sprout the Vulgarian at 8:47 AM on December 7, 2006
I guess I should clarify my above comment. Of course I recall smoking flights. My issue is that this woman was keeping those lit matches going for as long as possible, over and over. And the bathrooms have smoke detectors - wouldn't she think maybe, around match 3 or 4, they would get triggered?

I think it's a great idea.

The comments on that site, however, are a little cringe-inducing.

For those who want to get straight to the reviews, here's a link to the review thread at BoardGameGeek for War on Terror. I'm impressed that the initial reviews are positive with relation wo game mechanics.

MeFi post: Britian does it!
I think the coins would be more obviously not quarters if they were thicker. Also, maybe they can combine the two Bush presidents by having W in Sacajawea's papoose?
Maybe they can do this with the Adamses and Roosevelts too, just to save time/money.

Sacajawea as played by Bush the elder, I mean.

MeFi post: Save Studio 60
I liked Studio 60 for a while, but I agree with Heminator, that last episode was nine kinds of bad. If I knew then what I know now, I'd go back in time and watch a bad sitcom rerun instead.

Also, I agree with drjimmy11 that a show needs more than quick banter and big words for it to truly be "smart".

MeFi post: Babywearing 101
It seems like once the kids get bigger, the slings would cause back/shoulder pain.
It seems like a better option is one where some of the weight gets distributed to the waist/hips.

MeFi post: LIVE LONGER! EAT LESS PESTICIDE!
I found that site a few months ago and made myself a little card to carry around in my wallet. I am, admittedly, paranoid on this topic, but at least avoiding the top ten most-pesticided fruits/veggies makes me feel better.

MeFi post: "That I offer my services at all, you may take as a complement..."
Am I the only person who finds it tacky of Killian & Co. to post these letters on the internet? I mean, I know they are THEIR letters to do with as they please, but still, it seems like bad taste. I wouldn't want to do business with a company that publicly mocks their job applicants.

MeFi post: Only the best teas earn black belts
I'd like to plug Necessiteas. I purchased some lovely yixing teapots from them as bridesmaid gifts, and they arrived in perfect condition in beautiful brocade boxes.

The prices are surprisingly low on many of them.

MeFi post: Inaudible ring tone?
I assume that the whole reason for sneaking a ringtone into a classroom in the first place is so one can read one's messages. Otherwise, you're still waiting until class is over.

If all the kids have the same ringtone, wouldn't they ALL try to sneak a look at their phones at the same time when the tone goes off? That would end up pretty obvious. If I were a teacher, I think I'd institute a "phone-bucket" for voluntary surrrender during the class period.

So, the TJ's I use has no booze, because I live in a dry town.
Well, only sort of - they allow restaurants to serve alcohol now. (progressive!)

Anyway, so no booze, which is sad. But what I DO like to get from Trader Joe's is the frozen stuff: Good pizzas, instant rice, risotto, Thai Vegetable Gyoza, spinach dip. Prepared foods that aren't expensive, last a long time, and are great for quick snacks or meals. Also, they have great prices on fresh flowers,... [more]
