Fuck, I read that "Orzel" all wrong. Yeah, no, that's definitely the guy behind Uncertain Principles who I've actually corresponded with. No more late night posting.

Ask post: The awesomest song
It's been beaten to death in many contexts (being on the Matrix soundtrack does that), but once 0:25 hits in Rob Dougan's Clubbed to Death, you'll be hit hard for the rest of the song. Crank the bass, of course.

Ask post: Show Me How To Rock!
The Pinker Tones can sometimes hit that spot well. Especially, in Karma Hunters.

Hrm. Okay, maybe that suggestion wasn't the greatest.

Ask post: Which computer language should I learn?
I'd suggest Ruby and you should go right into learning Ruby on Rails. RoR guys are hard to find right now, and, if you're willing to gamble a bit more than usual, you can find some truly excellent jobs through it. Also, Ruby has some great features, and is really great to just pick up. There's lots of rather deep ideas that come out nice and easy in it.

Second choice? Python, definitely.

Ask post: How should I continue with my open source web app idea?
Start writing it. No, really. Go start coding. Upload the notes, the sketches, whatever. Put it up on Google Code, Rubyforge or something similar. Haunt the IRC chat rooms and mailing lists for the tools you are using and post news everytime you put out a new release. Be sure not to post in places that won't care, and don't post too much. Talk about it with friends. Even friends that have no idea what a compiler is.

The nerds will come to you but you've got to... [more]

Nope, you're going to have to learn how to program but, good god, you'll learn well. Sorry. It's frustrating as fuck when you've got That Idea but just can't figure out all the little things that stand in your way.

Go ahead and try it, though. Look into some tools and give it a go. I suggest using Ruby on Rails if you're doing the usual database-backend, web-frontend. You get testing for almost free with it as well as a ton of other easy-time makers. If nothing... [more]

Ask post: free webmail pop HTML-mode
Yeah, your "no embedded advertising" requirement is going to get you nowhere. I imagine the number of sites that have all of that along with no ads will be somewhere in the single digits, and will suck very, very hard for a variety of reasons.

Your best bet is probably to allow for the small text ads that are present in GMail and use it. Any POP or SMTP access needed can be gained by setting up a "Keep here but also forward to your.addy@gmail.com"... [more]

Ask post: the other man in her life is dead : forgive her or break-up ?
Did she not tell you until after he died? How long have you been dating? I'm sure there are more questions that could be asked.

Ask post: Why does fame kill?
Also, he attained everything he had not wanted. He really seemed to hate the "mainstream" and, suddenly, he was the mainstream. Remember that Rolling Stone picture with him in the shirt insulting Rolling Stone? This, coupled with the addiction, the stomach problem and a probable propensity towards depression led to the shotgun. Or so I've heard.

Ask post: Probably nonexistent, but...
Builder (ruby's XML file.. er.. builder)? Or perhaps Python's PyXML (check out the "Creating New Nodes" part of the HOWTO)?

Between the two, I prefer Builder but I've been on a Ruby kick for a while now.

Ask post: black holes
What you will see is many objects moving very quickly to a certain, dark spot in space. But the visible properties of these objects change in dramatic ways close to black holes.

Let's say you face yourself right in front of the black hole. Let's also suppose that magically, you have no mass and thus are not dragged in by its gravitational field (Deep, dark magic, to be sure). See all those stars all around you? Well, they aren't where you think they are. (Of course,... [more]

Ask post: foo bar baz; alice bob mallory; aphla ateb
I can never remember what to use after I go through "foo", "bar" and "baz". Usually, I end up using "blah", but as SpecialK noted, if I've gotten to "blah" I probably need to write some Real Code That Works or simplify what I have.

IANAD, but have you gotten yourself checked out for allergies in the past couple of years? Allergies can come in a variety of forms, including those that last year round and can be developed later in life.
