Regardles of the merits of the FPP, shouldn't a new user go ahead and sign up, post a few comments, get a feel for the place, and earn the right to post to FP?

Would it be feasible to increase the number of threads that appear with the "recent comments" feature? rodii made the point the other day that as the volume of posts has increased, threads fall below #20 pretty quickly and tend to die sooner than they may have in the past. If recent comments were completely chronological with no limitation by original thread date, it might result in fewer double posts.

IE5.5, Win98. My Comments has not appeared in the dropdown menu for a couple of days. Yes, I'm logged in. I deleted internet cache & cookies earlier in the week, but was careful to keep MeFi cookies. Is it possible I accidently deleted it? If so, shouldn't new comments I've made bring the feature back? Can't figure it out, but as a wise man once said: There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.

Would anyone like to weigh in on the use of images in MeFi posts? In the past, some have expressed a desire to keep things lean & mean, text only. When images are used, should they reside in the poster's own files, or is it ok to grab an image from someone else's site? I don't mean to single aaron out here, and I'm sure that webmaster is happy to get the publicity from the thread. I see how someone could get pretty pissed, though, under certain circumstances.

Monsanto wins case against Canadian farmer. Percy Schmeiser, who has attained folk-hero status, was held liable for growing genetically modified canola without paying the royalty. The decision in a federal court in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, was a significant setback for farmers who fear they will be held liable if pollen from neighboring farms blows onto their fields, transmitting patented genes to their crops without their knowledge or consent.

Flying Windmills and Whirlygigs. As the windy month comes to a close, these two stories seem appropriate. Two men on opposite sides of the globe, each a bit of a cross between Edison and Quixote.
