I spy with my little eye
I have noticed that as I drive down a familiar road, I always tend to look at the same few things and not others: the same billboards, buildings, signs, spot on the ground, etc. My wife confirms she does the same thing.
In general, I tend to notice poor design, especially in people flow. Door handles that are meant to be pulled on doors meant to be pushed, sidewalks in bad positions that are circumvented by trails in the grass, etc. This is a direct result of reading... [more]

Converting ProE files to Solidworks Parts files
Need a little bit more information (versions, file info, prt, asm, drw, etc.), but I think Solidworks can read Pro/e files natively, so you should be good in that direction. Solidworks to Pro/e is a little bit trickier.
Have you tried yet to just open a Pro/e file with solidworks? If it opens fine, then you should be able to just save it as a solidworks file.
An alternative, if you have access to the original files, is to save them as an... [more]

Is it possible to satisfactorily commute between UC San Diego and Hillcrest using public transit?
I live in hillcrest and work in La Jolla, near UCSD. Don't take Genessee all the way, it's ridden with stoplights. Traffic to and from isn't so bad. It does get a little slow on the 805N in the morning, but the 5N should be ok.
Also, I ride a scooter to work every day, and the trip can be made in about 20 min on the freeway (with a suitably large scooter/motorcycle), or about 45 min on surface streets (not Genessee)

Towing a trailer at highway speed?
It usually has to do with the size of the tires on the trailer being smaller than your average car's tires. If you car wheels are going along the road at 45 mph, say, then if the trailer's wheels are smaller than you car's, they will be spinning faster, and thus create more heat due to friction with the road and the tire's deformation on the contact patch, which could lead to a blow-out.
That's not to say that there isn't a safety factor built in to the 45 mph limit,... [more]

What are these tiny bumps that form on my eyelid?
I know exactly what you're talking about. I get them, too, and I asked my eye doctor about them.
He says they're a reaction to a build-up of just everyday gunk (dirt, bacteria, dust, etc.), and that washing your eyes out every night (with solution, or just splashing water) will help to minimize them. I've never got around to trying this, and I usually just try to pop them like you said.

How do I delete a stubborn mpeg file?
I've had a similar problem. Mine seems to be caused by Windows trying to read or cache or whatever a large file, usually an mpeg or avi. Rebooting, etc. didn't work. The way I've found to get around this is to select the file, wait a couple seconds for Windows to "catch up", then you can delete it.
This happens especially poorly in Thumbnail view, even if the thumbnail of the file is already cached. It's like Windows needs to look at every file you select... [more]

Also, 5 south past Camp Pendleton (once you get into SD county) can be backed up from all the folks driving into san diego for the weekend. This usually goes on from about 4 or 5 until maybe 7. Late at night, you could also run into drunk Marines coming back from bars, too, so watch out if you are going to be coming through that late.
Otherwise, Sacramento (parallel to SF) to SD 7-8 hours

flash paper is always cool, even when you know what it is (it's paper that burns very very quickly).
Also, if you could get to your local welding supply or gas supply (ie AirGas), you could fill a balloon with SF6, which is much denser than air, and the balloon will drop like a rock. Dunno if they have it it small quantities to purchase, or if you could just go in and ask them to fill up a balloon for you.

Motorcycle Security
I use a kryptonite NY Disc Lock with a NY Chain to secure my scoot to whatever I can. Sometimes, the chain won't go to anything, so I just use the lock through the disc brake.

if you have access to a handy friend, you could ask them to drill and tap a small section of aluminum rod with those two different threads.
It may sound pretty complicated, but trust me, a suitably handy friend would be able to do it easy. A simple set of thread taps (available at ie Home Depot) may even be cheaper than a commercial adapter.

Why does my wireless hub signal degrade throughout the day?
I've had persistent similar problems with my linksys routers in the past, and I saw somewhere that suggested that there is a problem with heat dissipation in the linksys enclosures.
I solved most of my degradation issues by making sure there was good clear airflow around the enclosure. You shouldn't have to force air into it, but that might help, too. (though you shouldn't have to make any modifications to them, until linksys gets their act together,... [more]

Stay caught up on sleep, even if it's not at your "usual" times. I got pretty good at taking 20 minute power naps (which is all you really need to refresh yourself anyway) during the day in between classes.
Partying every night is okay as long as you can make up the sleep sometime during the day. Missing class for sleep doesn't count. If you don't pay attention to this, it could seriously affect your academic career.

But I guess it looks like the answer to my question is "no, without special hardware, it is not normal to power on a PC PVR with the remote."

Aerosmith's Amazing ends with some old-timey radio sounds, and a voice-over

Red Elvises have a few from the Six String Samurai soundtrack that have a DJ voice-over in the beginning or end
