MeTa post: It was the best of MeFi. It was the worst of MeFi.
This has got to be a candidate for Worst.

I could take or leave child-free flights - earplugs go a LONG way in making a screaming child situation a lot less miserable, and my airline of choice (Delta) actually gives 'em away for free on long-haul flights now. The seat-kicking thing is usually fixable by a nice word to an accompanying parent, if present.

On the other hand there is some really serious karmic retribution coming to parents who change their infant's thoroughly be-pooped diaper not only in the... [more]

Good lord, one should think basic health laws would require the stewards to kick her poop-spreading arse down to the changing table. Did no one kick their asses into gear?

No, no one did, but, on the other hand, I don't think anyone complained, either. I know I wasn't the only one who noticed - the looks I saw on other people's faces sitting around her couldn't possibly have been from the "chicken" we were served.... [more]

It really is. I dream of being able to afford a first class ticket someday, but it doesn't look like it'll ever happen.

First class is totally overrated on domestic flights. I'll take it as a frequent-flyer upgrade (and I have a few times), but I don't think I'd pay for it, nor would I really ask my employer to do so for me.

On the other hand, on transoceanic flights first class is completely kickass. You can actually... [more]

Senate: 50R 48D 2I (Lieberman and Sanders)
House: 220D, 215R
CT: Lamont:43%, Lieberman 42.9%, Schlesinger 14%

I still think Schlesinger is going to do better than people are giving him credit for - from what I'm hearing, he is absolutely KILLING both Lamont and Holy Joe in the debates. That could only draw votes from Lieberman, as Lamont's support is entrenched, and Lieberman's support is coming from people who aren't awfully inclined to vote... [more]

Normally, I would chalk this guy up to be just your everyday garden-variety antisemitic crank. I'm of the opinion that every discussion forum needs one of those, if only as a reminder that people like that are out there in the world.

However, it is a bit worrisome that in a year, he's ONLY posted in threads that address Judaism in some way. He's had nothing to contribute otherwise. Weird.

Ok, that's not quite what was asked in the above thread, but given the lack of detail, it's well within the realm. I didn't respond in the thread because I don't want it on my conscience that advice I gave was used to harm someone.

My question here is: is it ok to flag a question that is a) potentially asking for information that could be used in the commission of a crime, and B) the poster is not only vague, but a bit hostile when questioned about his motives?... [more]

"it's quite a stretch to conclude that they're stalking an ex girlfriend. "

Given the lack of detail, no, it's not.

"There are any number of reasons why a person might want to avoid and disappear from someone else. Maybe they were an ex-roommate or tenant who skipped out of town owing back rent. Maybe they took something and want to avoid capture. There are a zillion reasons other than a stalking.... [more]

Oh boy, did I do BBSes, mostly in the 212 and 718 area codes. I was a regular on the Running Board (PCBoard), which was a hub for the RIME network. I still get nostalgic for the days of Robocomm and .qwk packets.

Also, I was co-sysop of the Bayline, which was a 16-line MajorBBS system, back in the day when that was impressive as hell.
