harddrive question
//OP//
sorry for the confusion. i acutally never ended up hooking up the IDE drive to the computer. what do you mean about "auto-select[ing]" and the "sectors, cylinders, etc". i know a fair bit about computers, but not much technical stuff about harddrives.
thanks!

Mac is chafing me.
>>Why does my mac (G4) refuse to play some of the songs that I've downloaded from legitimate music sites on the internet?< br>
in my professional opinion, this is the work of The Beast trying to enforce you to obtain illegal mp3's via p2p networks.>

Babysitters hourly rate
i used to babysit and got $5 which i thought was kinda crappy, considering babysitting (at least for me) was almost always friday or saturday night just for a few hours, but just enough to not be able to hang out with friends - which i never really thought was worth $15 or $20.
i think $6 for 1 or 2 kids, $7 for 3, $8 for 4 sounds perfect.
maybe i'm just spoiled now that i'm older and have a real job.

tips for summer reading!
No matter what you choose, make sure to read "A Man for All Seasons." It's really a spectacular book.

Are these required? Do you have to write reports on them?

When I couldn't stand reading my sophomore year English summer reading (Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton) I bought it as an audio from audible. They have Portrait.... Check to see if the other two are on tape. It really helped me get though the horrible 10th grade reading.

while that's a good idea, i'd rather tackle this problem head-on (my problems with reading (boring) novels)

Bibliographic reference management on the web?
when i did my research paper, i started with del.icio.us to just bookmark anything and everything i could which related to my topic. i then sorted through them and used easybib for the final bibliography.
i tried citeulike but found it extremely confusing.

Buying a Laptop for College
I was thinking the same thing about waiting for the Intel notebooks. Hmm... only 20GB? I think he'd want them at a pretty high bitrate, though as he's really intense about his music.

Good point about XP, mr.dan, I didn't think of that! Sorry about the "more inside" feature. I'm rather new here.

1. First off, thanks to jb for his excellent contribution, and to the rest of you also. I've really been getting my $5 worth here at AskMeFi.
2. As for the iPod for music suggestion:
Isn't it like on PC's where in order to play the music on both the computer (iTunes) and the iPod, you need to store the music on both the computer's harddrive and the iPod harddrive? Or can you build an iTunes library where the music lives on... [more]

Yet another iPod question
couldn't it be the eq? if it would have mid-ranges blocked out (on a certain mode), you might just hear the instruments.

Squishy shoes blues
Haha @ StickyCarpet
I have the same problem with a pair of GBX boot-shoes (I call them shoots). At first they didn't squeak at all. Then after a couple months the right one started and now the left one has started too! I've tried everything I can think of including WD-40.
