Through The Rain
It's three of us -- me, Charlie Campbell, and Dave Kucera. We were all Evergreen students at the time. IIRC Charlie had borrowed a Tascam 4-track cassette deck and we wanted to experiment with it. Charlie had a bit of a melody he had been playing with and we all wrote the song together from that. Then we recorded Charlie's guitar track, did the handclaps in the stairwell where it was echoey, and recorded the vocals (me and Dave). In fact we might have done the handclaps last, though I'm not... [more]

Heh, I would never have thought of it that way. That gives me an idea for another approach to it, if I ever record it again. :) Thanks!

That is so true. And the more you mess with it, sometimes the worse it gets.

Heh, I would love to, but rerecording it has never worked well yet. :)
Jofus, that is one of the coolest compliments I've ever had. Thanks!

Just adding a cross-link here to the AskMeFi that has some additional info about some other music that Charlie Campbell has done, which you may have heard.
(And thanks, Clarissa!)

That Letter
I have always wanted to do that song. I don't have a band at the moment, though. :( And my guitar playing is way sub par because of car accident injuries that made me stop playing for the most part about 10 years ago.
However, I have a keyboard with MIDI and I just got a MacBook with GarageBand, so I might try creating some more stuff soon. If anyone wants to collaborate, I am open to that.

No, "That Letter" isn't the MTV jingle -- we just stuck the MTV jingle onto the beginning to be silly.

Fascination Rap
I should add that although it was a joke, the joke was on us, not the songs -- they are both songs I like a lot, so we weren't trying to make fun of them, just to be silly because I am about the farthest from a rapper you can get. (As you can tell from my other MeMu posts.)

Thanks. :) Super Chicken and Brandy? Augh, that makes my brain hurt. I bet it was great! I love it when bands are goofy.

Xmas Won't Be Xmas
A major factor in the band's breakup was that my ex-boyfriend was the bassist, and he started going out with the drummer... drama ensued and nobody much wanted to play music with each other anymore.
It was a really fun band to be in, until that point. Even when I did a rap song for Halloween. ;)

"And dating the bassist is not the worst thing you can do in the world. The worst thing in the world would be to date the drummer."
Ha. My mom gave me that very advice when I was quite young. Unfortunately I did date at least one drummer in my life, and while we were in a band together, too. (That's my advice -- never date anyone in your band. Just don't do it.)
The drummer in this particular band, though, was the... [more]

Alternate answers: Five. One to change it, and the other four to stand around and talk about how much better Neil Peart would have done it!
or...
None -- they have machines to do that now.
What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine?
You only have to punch the information into the drum machine once.
Did you hear about the bass player who locked his keys... [more]

We kid because we love.
Now the question is, what did the crowd do when you started to solo? ;)
(Incidentally, my uncle Don Fulton was the drummer in this band -- see also here.)
