Numeristerical!
My number describes a genetic structure. As it happens, this structure is part of a cluster called 17594. Now, if you look to see who has that user # you will see that it is somebody with the name Katie.
Katie is my cat's name.
Coincidence??! You tell me!!... [more]

OMGNOES
Wait, AskMe posters can't have links to flickr in their questions? Since when? What's the harm in that?
Or...is it just flickr links that point to cat pictures?

Those meddling kids!
Now all we've got to do is get a hold of Paul Rutherford and see what he remembers about the word. Did he just come up with it? What was his motivation, etc.
nothing-to-do-with-anything derailfilter: When I was a tender 14, I bussed my butt down to Olsson's in Georgetown, still wearing my fugly catholic school uniform, to buy a copy of Welcome to the Pleasuredome and get it signed by the band, who were in attendance for that purpose. I waited... [more]

I look forward to us solving this great theosophical question for the ages right here in MetaTalk!

PeterMcDermott: my mom has said, on more than one occassion, that Ian Paisley will rot in hell with Cromwell. And she's not even a fire'n'brimstone type of lady.

Googlefight never fails.
Actually, all that really proves is that people who refer to their religion as the catchall "Christian" put up more web pages. There is no corner of the world where we are safe from the evangelizing, unfortunately.

Not sure. But chances are good you go to one of those snake-handling churches if your name is Wyatt, Cletus or Maynard.

MeFi Mail is here
So when threads get derailed, will we see a message from Jessamyn saying "Take it to MefiMail!!!!"?
If the Lords of Kobol wish it, let it be so. Oh please, let it be so.

Is this normal, sanctioned behaviour?
Kirth: What dismas said, plus the operative difference between Catholic "tithing" and Mormon tithing is that nobody in the Catholic church demands an interview with you at the end of the year to make sure you've paid in full. It's purely an honor system in the RCC. Much different with LDS - you wanna get into that temple, you better have your tithing paid, even if you haven't been in years and just want to attend somebody's wedding. Pay, pray and obey, as the saying goes.

Some cold war insight from Paulsc
When the shit hits the fan, I'm heading up to Jacksonville to bunker down with paulsc. It wouldn't suprise me if he could make a mean stroganoff out of old shoe leather and heinz ketchup, and his stories will entertain me during the long bleak nuclear winter. He could rig up his sterling engine (he has one in his garage, I just know he does) and we will watch old french movies while we make our own penicillin.

I want my askme back!
Ok how about this. Everybody can have unlimited questions but for each question you ask, your name gets put into a lottery with a drawing each week. Then Matt or Jessamyn do a drawing and whoseever name is picked is immediately stoned to death in the town square. Repeat weekly until ask metafilter page stops scrolling.
