Will Wright's PC game
Spore was released yesterday. The 'Sim Everything' game from the creator of Sim City and The Sims takes the player from cellular growth to space colonization with several stages in between.
Reviews are in, and the consensus is that it's good but not as legendary as its scope (and multi-year development cycle) would suggest. The game's 'draconian' DRM has sparked controversy, causing Amazon users to bomb it with
one-star reviews.

What are the specific tax loopholes that Obama intends to close, and how much money does each of those 'loopholes' account for?
This article by FactCheck.org indicates that the Obama campaign estimates the revenue from tax reform at $80 billion - so where did that figure come from?

I saw a guy today who had something going on with his legs that I was curious about. He was wearing shorts and had these sort of flesh-colored "sleeves" over both legs and what looked like some sort of therapeutic boot with a very thick sole or padding. He walked as though he had a prosthetic leg, but these were not like any prosthetics I have ever seen. He didn't have a cane, crutches or any other sort of assistance. Any ideas what this was all about?

An older guy I used to work with (who had no sense of humor) once claimed that Bob's Big Boy subjected their employees to extensive psychological testing and used the results to keep them in the fold no matter what - supposedly this included giving baseball fans season tickets, car buffs a sweet company car, etc. I found this completely implausible and totally hilarious. Can anybody confirm or disprove that Bob's Big Boy was some kind of Machiavellian empire that knew its employees' deepest desires?

I have a 98 Camry with leather seats and I live in Arizona. As you may have surmised, I am an idiot. The car has been great though, and I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon. My problem is that I have a long commute and by the time I get to work or home my pants & the back of my shirt are plastered to me, no matter how much I blast the AC. I'm thinking I need some sort of seat pad that provides ventilation and maybe active cooling. Any recommendations?

Questions about PSP modding (via Pandora's Battery) - will my UMD games still play on it? Will games purchased via playstation online store still work? And if future games are made to not work with modded units, can I 'reverse' the modding and go back to Sony firmware?

My Xbox 360 is in Microsoft's Xbox hospital being repaired and I'm jonesing for some game time, even if I could just play my original Xbox games. I remember back in the NES days you could rent consoles but not so much anymore, I assume because of the complexity and Faberge egg-like delicacy of systems like the 360. But is there someplace, anywhere in the greater Phoenix (AZ) area that I could rent a system? A first gen Xbox would be fine. Failing that, any other creative ideas besides using my computer for games which I've already tried? I'm in the Chandler/Gilbert area FWIW.

My 1998 Camry has a socket in the dashboard underneath the cigarette lighter that is the same size & shape as a cigarette lighter socket but has a cover over it that says "110V". If I plug in my cell phone charger to this socket it doesn't work, I assume because the voltage on the charger doesn't match.
My question: If I would like to power something from this socket with a standard household 2-pronged plug, what sort of adapter do I need? What's it called? Sorry for my lack of 'lectrical lingo knowledge.

Fun stuff to do in Vegas with kids? We'll be there for 2 days, staying at Circus Circus, with 7-year old boy/girl twins. Haven't been there in 10 years. Besides walking the strip at night and doing the stuff at the hotel, what else do y'all recommend? Also, what's the rule on kids and casinos? If we take that walkway that goes into Caesar's, I seem to recall it drops you off right in the casino. Are we not allowed to even use this with children, or is it OK as long as we get them out of the casino area quickly?

I have some contacts on AIM, others on Google Talk, others on MSN messenger. Ideally I'd like to set up an account on all of these, and then if someone sends me a message on one it would be forwarded to the other one I happened to be logged in on; i.e., they send me a message on Google talk and it's automagically forwarded to my MSN messenger account. C'mon MeFites, let's get the construction paper & string & build this thing!

Help me construct the ultimate poor man's Ipod boombox. I have a Sonic Impact T-Amp and 2 Infinity bookshelf speakers. I would like to be able to carry all 3 as a connected unit (Amp velcroed to the top of a speaker, speakers somehow connected together) but separate the speakers when needed. What's a good way to connect the speakers together without damaging them? I'd like to keep it as light weight as possible. Seems like Velcro might be too weak?

Help-me-find-this-book: Series about 2 girls who get into adventures involving magic. I remember one where they had some kind of invisibility cloak and another where a forest grew inside one of the girls' rooms. They tried to keep the magic hidden from others. I'm putting together a music playlist for a kids' ice cream social at my son's elementary school and I need a lot of songs about ice cream and candy. Each song should have ice cream and/or candy mentioned prominently (i.e., people who haven't heard the song before and who are only half listening to it should quickly catch the connection). Sexual references/double entendre should be kept to a minimum (i.e., Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man" is OK, but "Candy Shop" by 50 Cent is not) -- we're talking 5-year olds here, but hip 5-year olds. The more genres the better!
Stuff I've got so far:
Ice Cream Man by Van Halen
Lollipop by the Chordettes
Various ice cream truck jingle mp3s from WFMU's Beware of the Blog
Sugar Sugar by the Archies
(Your love is better than) Ice Cream by Sarah McLachlan
I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow
Ice Cream by Laurie Berkner

How to create a customized portable ubuntu image? I would like to do something like an Ubuntu livecd but with either flash or a USB hard drive. Basically I would like to have a completely customized Ubuntu environment that will save all my settings when I log out, that I can take to any computer. Ideally I'd like to install a few apps that don't come standard with Ubuntu like Amarok and have those as part of the package. I have a 60 GB Ipod so I could launch from that if possible. I'm a Linux newbie so the simpler, the better!
