Something is just... off.
I don't think it's just because you are a woman. I am a man and if I overheard a bunch of guys role playing about raping women I would be a little disturbed by it.

Have I harmed myself electronically?
Some areas of CL require an account. This requires an email, password and cell phone. You set up the account and they send a number to the cell phone to validate the account.

Cowboy Hat in NYC
I don't know about cheap, but there is a Western store on Broadway south of Canal. I don't know the exact cross streets. Near white st. though, I think. If I walk by it over the weekend I'll get the cross streets and see if they have cowboy hats.

So... not Hemingway.
Not especially contemporary, but I think that Salinger's Seymour: An Introduction is in line with what you're asking. Nabokov's The Gift is essentially a love letter to Russian literature. Not sure if that counts, but it's certainly 100x better than Ada.

What to do with my accumulation of coins in France?
When I lived in france, I accumulated over 100 Euros in change. Before I left, I gave handfuls away to people asking for money on the street. Not exactly pizza, but it was good to give that much away to someone who needed it. Carry it around for a few days in your bag. When you see the person who should have it, you'll know.

a minute=60 sec; a moment = ?
Just for fun, the smallest moment in the Buddhist tradition is said to be 1/64th of the time it takes to snap your fingers. You can conceive of moments shorter of that, but for some reason they've decided that is as small as time can be divided and thoughts can't arise faster than that. So random. So funny.

Why haven't I been hired?
The navigation on your site is a little unintuitive. If you can't structure and present your own work in a simple, attractive way (with no time limit), it leads people to believe that you will never be able to structure and design things for other people (with looming deadlines).
Look at some great portfolios of people that you feel are really above you design-wise and shoot for that level of quality and attention to detail. Don't copy...just reach for the stars. You... [more]

Do I speak now, or forever hold my peace?
Butt out and be supportive. Don't tell her your concerns. Help her plan. Support her excitement. Support her marriage, and, if and when it disintegrates support her then, too.
As someone who got married when others thought it was a "bad idea" I really never stopped resenting their disapproval or meddling. I lost a lot of friendships over people laughing or disapproving of my heartfelt decisions. If her marriage does work out, the last thing you want to be is... [more]

ROACH ON MY FACE + wimp = oh no
In NYC we call these water bugs. Good news is that I've never seen more than one at a time inside, meaning there is probably not an infestation and once you get rid of this guy, you'll be all good. Bad news is that they can in fact be huge and do intact fly. They don't fly at you like a bee, but more hover around the room. Also, they are pretty harmless once you get used to their preposterous size. I would be more scared of a bee. For short term help I recommend just slowly going into the room.... [more]

How stupid would it be to trash the old financial stuff?
Instead of shredding (I never thought of fire), what I do is get a bucket and put the papers inside and fill it with water and let it soak over night. The next morning I mush it up into a totally illegible ball of mulch and throw it in the trash.

Danger Will Robinson! Sex life in jeopardy! Help!
This whole idea that the only difference between a friend and a partner/girlfriend/wife is the sex is so stupid. There are many things that separate the two besides sex. For example, you don't raise children with your friends. You don't plan for your retirement with them. You're not in love with them. And on and on. Shit, I have even had sex with friends and they were definitely not my girlfriends or wife. This alone refutes this notion.

Help me quit smoking.
In AA, they have a saying. Don't stop drinking: just don't have that first drink.
Stopping smoking for the rest of your life, under all of these crazy tempting situations, feels very difficult and is a set up for failure. Just avoid the first drag. That's it. If you are tempted, deal with it without smoking or turning to another addiction. Avoiding situations where you are tempted is good at first, but ultimately you have to choose not to smoke. When you have difficulty... [more]

How do I start a dialog with my wife about her weight?
Based on your wife's comment about packing on the pounds to show you, I suspect your wife is overeating to cope with her frustrations and as a way to express her anger. What things in her life could she be frustrated about? What could she be so angry about that she is willing to sacrifice her health, body and marriage in order to express herself? Being her husband, I am sure you have a good idea. If you don't, then I bet that's part of the problem right there. Help your wife with her life, not... [more]

Oxycodone Blues
I *just* got out of a long hospital stay and struggled with this. Any meaningful dose of opiates makes me really nauseous, often resulting in vomiting. Eventually they switched me to a painkiller with tramadol and presto, no nausea. We were dealing with significant pain, and tramadol delivered relief. Of course, I was just happy to stop vomiting on myself. I would definitely talk to your doc about the option. I don't know the long term risks of taking it, might be worse withdrawals, etc. But it... Sorry, I was wrong; usually aganju is shango's father or brother. In some stories I think the two are collapsed. At any rate, he's an orisha and I was always under the impression the song had strong devotional overtones because of this. Hopefully someone can come through with a great translation. Can't wait.

Zen and the art of Zen
You should check out Zen Buddhism: A History by Heinrich Dumoulon. Although he's a no zen master, and I wouldn't trust him as an abosolute authority on complex buddhist concepts, Dumoulun did a good job tracing the development of zen from India to Japan. By the time you're done you'll have a good idea of all important zen figures and their basic ideas and experiences, which can help direct your further course of study.

I need a better memory
For concentration, I suggest meditation. It's a more long term solution as you won't see results over night; but over time you will see your ability to focus strengthen significantly. It will also make the push and pull of your thoughts a little less intense.

Effectively seeking a psychiatric diagnosis?
Man, I wish I could give you a hug.
I pretty much agree with what everyone has said so far. Just wanted to say a lot can change. Little internal changes or realizations can change the world you live in dramatically. You might look back in a year and not identify with the person who wrote this at all. Just keep that in mind if you begin to feel hopeless.
I hope you find the treatment that helps you.

Please help me stop eating animal slices
For the record, my doctor gave me a few suggestions, but the issue came up at the tail end of a visit that was really about a totally different issue. He didn't dissuade me from becoming a vegetarian, he just said I should probably try to pack on a few pounds, one way or another.
I am underweight, but maybe "cartoonishly" is overstated. Every doctor I have ever been to seemed to think I was perfectly healthy. I just have a very slim build and maybe 10 pounds... [more]

I used the fitday calculator today and I am already well over 2000 calories for the day and I still have a lot of evening snacking to do. I think on an average day I easily consume 2,500-3,000 calories. I don't know how much more I can eat. I might just take Gordion Knott's... [more]
