This little song that's somewhat about Don Draper sprung to life while rewatching the entire series of Mad Men. This is the audio of a video that's here, if you're into that sort of thing.
A foot tapping piano-based rocker with some catchy riffs and pretty little intro that walks the line of being a little too long but IMO really sets the mood for the song.
This song started as a joke, and then I ended up liking it and working it up a little more. I used it as the closing to an essay on social media and phones I wrote (that originally started as a comic about Facebook). That sounds complicated, but the song is simple.
Most songs I write are about relationships and life and whatever, but this is a funk song, and it's about nothing. It has some pseudo-metaphorical lyrics that gained meaning after being put down, a direct quote from an old tennis coach I had in college, some electric piano I wish was a real and not just in my computer, some funky backing guitar by a friend of mine, a piano solo out of a wild west saloon, and then various layers of looped acoustic drums and electronic beats.
I turned four years worth of voicemails from my brother into this song, and I gave it to him for his 39th birthday.
An upbeat alt-countryish number I wrote in 2002, brought back from the dead and revived (with some cheap rhymes preserved).
The lyrics to this song are from a postcard dated 1965-1966, where John Lennon wrote lyrics to a song that he never recorded. I read about it a couple of years ago and wrote music to go with the lyrics. This is how it turned out.
Snarky Americana. Mostly about a girl I dated once who just lovvvveed reaching into my wallet.
