Breast biopsy - what to tell the kids?
13 year olds are old enough to hear the truth. I still remember what it's like to be 13, and it was so frustrating to have adults assume that we can't handle certain bits of information simply because we're too young. Tell them the truth, but be honest. Explain that it really IS just a test, and it doesn't necessarily mean that she's sick. It's just a check up to make sure that she is healthy.

Spit it out
21/f & in socal here.
I was never as bad as the example you gave, but sometime around 16 or 17 (I picked it up somewhere around 13 I guess) I realized what an ineloquent dumbass it made me sound like. I still have the unfortunate "And he was like" or "She was all" when I'm really into a story I'm telling, but the number of "likes" and "ums" have been reduced greatly. FWIW: I was on the Debate team, so it was a lot more... [more]

How to keep college freshmen quiet and respectful during a lecture?
seconding special k and well...a bunch of others who basically said "you have to treat them as kids and be a little mean."
And not that I'm saying jujube's techniques will never work, but from my personal experience, not only would that NOT get the talkative kids to shut up, it'd actually be a new topic for conversation & ridicule ("Does she think we're in kindergarten? Who the hell still raises their hand and expect that to work?"). And sadly,... [more]

Bucket wash my car.
i'm in the same situation, and i always wondered if you could just rinse your car at the water pump...thing...(so my vocabulary's not spectacular) at the gas station? that idea probably won't go over too well if you're actually rinsing off soap suds, but for a basic dirt-off-car kind of rinse, would that work?

Song on H&M in-store radio
some stores actually hire an outside company to make mixes for them, though, so that ask-the-sales-associate trick might not always work. it's worth a shot though.

How do I get dynamic drive icons on my Windows desktop?
I accidentally found out that you can actually drag off toolbars from the taskbar one day. (at least, i don't THINK this is "common knowledge...)
Right click on the taskbar, click on "toolbars" and if "My Computer" isn't already there for you, find it via the "new toolbar." Unlock the taskbar and you can actually drag the toolbar out of the taskbar. I keep the My Computer toolbar at the top of my desktop for easy access & less... [more]

Thanks everyone for the info & suggestions so far. If it makes any difference, I'm actually trying to decide between Etymotic er-6i's and the shure e2c's. It's good to see that a lot of people has had great experiences with the shures. Keep the suggestions coming though!

Do you let iTunes keep your music folder organized?
afx114 cites the MAIN REASON I haven't switched to letting iTunes taking over. (The other reason is that I go through phases where I hate iTunes and switch to winamp or mediamonkey but i think that's neither here nor there).
as for how i organize it: artist--> album

Identify these Spanish pop songs
i googled the spanish lyrics.
one: El Sueño De Morfeo - "Nunca Volverá" (translation: "Will Never Return"...I think.)
third: Julieta Venegas "Me Voy" (here's the link to the music video [youtube])
still working on 2 & 4 since it's not as clear what the lyrics are. (my spanish isn't half as good as it should be..)

Why can't a girl get a little freedom?
I'm going to have to disagree and say that you SHOULDN'T "ask your parents how crazy-insane-with-untasted-freedom they want you to go when you get to college," especially if you want to negotiate for a later curfew. IMHO, it'll only make you come off as a rather immature and/or rebellious "teenager" (aka: exactly who you don't want to appear to be).
The whole sitting down and talking to them tactic didn't work for me until I... [more]

I did these from 4th grade until 6th grade, and I always found them to be a pretty lame part of the curriculum, even at that age. I will be honest and say that I come from an... [more]

OKAY final "answer." Try to let him know that he can be brilliant without exceling at this drill. Like others have said, it really is rather pointless. (Though knowing the times table is very useful...)

What's the deal with revolving doors?
This probably isn't why buildings utilize revolving doors, but another benefit is that you don't have to touch anything (therefore cutting down on passing around germs, etc.).
Also, I'm the opposite. I find revolving doors kind of fun. (No I'm not a kid, though I'm only 20; and yes, I didn't grow up around them.)

Mistakenly failing a course?
I go to a fairly large university (26,000+ students), and most of the department advisors/heads I've talked to are VERY good about making accommodations for students with valid reasons. IMO "I will have to stay another term just for 4 measly units" falls under "valid reasons." I'm double majoring and (provided that I take the initiative to go in and talk to the advisor) one department always does the best it can to open up slots/seats so that I can take classes "on... Netflix: Adding secondary account holders as friends
Not sure if you've already tried this, but Netflix also gives you a link for your friends to click on. I haven't tried it, but I'm assuming Netflix would just ask your friend to log into his account. The e-mail is simply a way for you to send that link to your friends via e-mail. In any case, it's worth a shot and it takes maybe all of 20 seconds.

Take money from estranged dad?
seconding jerseygirl.
Donating to a charity that helps those with his illness/condition (whatever the case may be) shows that you do care about him in the sense that he is still your father and (I'm assuming) you still love him in that "blood relation" way. However, a note (maybe a little cold on purpose?) would demonstrate that you're simply not interested in having a relationship with him at this point in time.
